Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Sycamore, IL

I checked in on the afternoon, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Country Inn & Suites so that a I could attend a DCI Drum and Bugle competition later that evening at a nearby college. After my room reservation was confirmed and I was checked in, I was advised by the Front Desk that the one elevator was not working and there was no estimated time of repair; my room was on the 3rd floor. I am 76 years old and had a heavy roller board (filled with perishable items that I was going to give to my grandson after the band competition). Because of the time and not knowing the area, I did not feel that I could go to another hotel and make the competition in time, assuming I could find a vacancy on short notice, coupled with the fact that it was Saturday, a relatively small town, and a large band competition going on. As a result, I stayed overnight. (I am grateful that I did not bring my husband who uses a wheelchair). Later in the evening, I took a look at the hotel reviews and did see prior reviews of the elevator not working on different occasions. My recommendation to management going forward, is to E-MAIL the situation in advance of their stay, those customers checking in on those occasions when the elevator is not working so that they have time to make other arrangements should they wish and are able to. I did feel that the overall room accommodations, breakfast, and location were very good and a fair value. I would use the hotel again but would check in advance if the elevator was operational. My wedding party and I stayed here for a total of 5 days!! We had a great experience staying at this hotel. The staff is absolutely amazing and kind. Breakfast in the morning was always fully stocked, and once again their attendants were so kind. The pool is indoor and heated!! Me and my husband had the jacuzzi tub room; and let me tell you it was the perfect end to our days and very relaxing. Would recommend this hotel, and when we come back to Sycamore I know where we'll be staying!

So we stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding at Blumen Gardens. Our son was getting married and we brought deserts to drop off at the facility. We arrive and have to wait for the gentleman that works the counter as it appears he was taking care of something in the pool area as well as something else on an upper floor. We found an elderly lady standing on the walkway over looking the front counter asking us if he was back yet. It was her 3rd time trying to get her key to open her room. The person working the desk was not friendly, but with all the running around, I could understand. The young man in the morning was very friendly and helpful at the desk. She starts walking down the stairs when she sees that he is back. As we are checking in, she informs us the elevator does not work. So she has now had to walk down the stairs 3 times to try to get her key taking care of. We were not happy because we had our bags as well as the deserts to bring up to the room. So like this elderly lady we had to take numerous trips up and down the stairs. When we entered the the room, there was musty smell and although the air conditioning worked well, by the noise not for much longer. Looking out the window our screen had a large hole in it. Other rooms as well. The carpet is worn and has probably never been cleaned. Along the walls there is a build up of dirt. Bathroom caulking around the sink is cracking. And even though there were friendly people doing room service, there is no weekend room service for the rooms, only for new guest. The food for breakfast was good as well as the options. The ladies working in there were friendly and helpful. When checking out there was another person there, he was not friendly at all. And one of the reasons for writing this. Obviously upper management, by the way he was talking to the young lady working in the breakfast area. I have stayed at a few Country Inn Suites over the years and have always been happy with my stay. They were up to date, clean and staff always pleasant. But with the elevator not working, the outside looking like a motel 6 with pot holes in the parking area, this was not a country inn suites. The price of the rooms are that of one, but over priced and underachieving.

How long has your elevator been out of service? I see reviews going as far back as a year that mention it. We stayed here over the weekend, and the signs notifying us that the elevator was out of order seemed like they had been around a while, considering you took the time to print them in color and frame them. That's all well and good, until you show up for rooms you reserved with seniors that have limited mobility and you get placed at the far end of the building on the third floor. We managed, but I'm thankful one of them stayed home, who happens to be wheelchair bound. The hotel seemed very full from what I could tell, so I'd be surprised if there was a first floor room available. What if our group included people that absolutely could not go up and down the stairs? A word of advice; if your elevator is out of service long term like this, it would sure be a nice courtesy to let people know that before they book their stay, so they can make an informed choice. The staff seems very shorthanded and spread thin as well, but they were friendly, from what I saw. Other than that, our stay was good and the rooms seemed clean.

I took my son out for a little mom-and-son staycation and stayed one night at this hotel, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. We went to check in at 3 PM, and while the front desk attendant was friendly, things quickly went downhill from there. We were assigned a room on the 3rd floor, but when we opened the door, we were shocked to find it already occupied—garbage everywhere, an unmade bed, and it even sounded like someone was in the bathroom. We had to lug all of our stuff back downstairs to get it resolved. The only response we received was a half-hearted apology—no offer to make up for the inconvenience. Later, we went to the pool, hoping to salvage the evening, but that was disappointing as well. There was very limited seating, no towels provided in the pool area, and we even found garbage floating in the water. Once it got dark, the pool lights were never turned on, despite posted hours saying it was open until 11 PM. The only positive part of our stay was the continental breakfast—it was fresh, well-stocked, and the staff attending to it did a great job. Overall, I had hoped for a relaxing, memorable time with my son, but the experience fell short in many ways. Definitely expected better
