My stay at Gurney’s Resort had its highs and lows. The room felt somewhat dated, and the bathtub’s hot water was a letdown—trickling out slowly and barely warm. The property is undergoing renovations, which might explain some of the wear. The food at the resort was mediocre, passable but nothing memorable. On the bright side, the beach is a highlight. The sand is soft, the chairs are comfortable, and the beachside pub adds a nice touch, though the water isn’t suitable for swimming. For better dining options, Montauk town nearby has some great spots worth checking out. Overall, the beach vibe is strong, but the resort itself could use some upgrades.

Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa Introduce

Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, located at 290 Old Montauk Hwy, Montauk, NY 11954, USA, stands as an iconic destination for those searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in the Hamptons region, specifically in Montauk. With direct contact available at (631) 668-2345 or +1 631-668-2345, Gurney's positions itself as a premier beachfront resort, combining luxury aspirations with a relaxed coastal vibe. It's a property with a long history and is currently undergoing renovations, aiming to enhance its offerings and maintain its status as a top-tier retreat.

The "environment" of Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa is undeniably its strongest asset and a major draw for guests. The resort boasts a breathtaking beachfront location, offering direct access to the soft sands of Montauk. As highlighted in customer reviews, "the beach is a highlight. The sand is soft, the chairs are comfortable, and the beachside pub adds a nice touch." This prime position allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the quintessential Montauk beach experience. The expansive stretch of private beach, coupled with comfortable seating and convenient dining options right by the water, creates a serene and inviting atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment of the coastal scenery. However, it's important to note that while the beach is beautiful, "the water isn’t suitable for swimming" directly in front of the resort, which might be a consideration for those primarily seeking swimming opportunities in the ocean. The overall ambiance is designed to evoke a "beach vibe," making it ideal for those who appreciate coastal aesthetics and outdoor leisure. The property is currently undergoing renovations, which, while indicative of future improvements, can sometimes lead to an environment that feels "somewhat dated" in certain areas or has visible signs of ongoing work. Despite this, the natural beauty of the Montauk setting remains a consistent positive.

The "services" at Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa are comprehensive, striving to provide a full-service luxury experience. The staff is consistently described as "friendly" and eager to assist. Examples include a warm welcome by a staff member named Carlos, who went above and beyond by helping with luggage and gifting a child a "cute lobster plush toy," demonstrating a personal touch. The resort offers a kids' club with "enjoyable activities like frame decorating," indicating family-friendly services. Spa appointments are available, with one guest's husband enjoying his morning spa experience. The hotel also provides dining services, including breakfast buffets. However, despite the friendly staff, a "noticeable lack of organization and visible leadership negatively impacts the service quality." Guests encountered significant delays and back-and-forth for simple requests, such as ordering a grilled cheese or a minibar snack, leading to frustration and a feeling that the "luxury" service expected from a premium establishment was not consistently delivered. This suggests that while individual staff members are well-intentioned and capable, there's a systemic issue with coordination and oversight that prevents them from delivering an exceptional, seamless experience. The review explicitly states, "What they need is strong leadership to boost morale and enhance their ability to deliver an exceptional guest experience," highlighting a crucial area for improvement in service delivery.

The "features" of Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa are extensive and designed to cater to a diverse range of guests seeking a resort experience. Key features include:

  • Private Beach Access: As noted, this is a prime feature, offering exclusive access to 2,000 feet of pristine sand, complete with comfortable chairs and umbrellas.
  • Seawater Spa: The resort's namesake spa is a significant draw, featuring a renowned indoor seawater pool, a Roman bath, Finnish rock saunas, and various treatment rooms. It aims to provide a comprehensive wellness experience.
  • Dining Options: Gurney's offers multiple on-site dining venues, including the beachside pub mentioned in reviews. While the food was described as "mediocre" by one guest, the variety of options typically caters to different preferences. Montauk town nearby also offers additional dining choices, as recommended by a reviewer for "better dining options."
  • Guest Rooms and Suites: The resort offers a variety of accommodations, from standard rooms to spacious suites and private cottages, many with ocean views. While one guest found their room "somewhat dated," the ongoing renovations suggest efforts to modernize these spaces. Amenities typically include high-speed internet, premium bedding, and private bathrooms.
  • Fitness Center: A fitness center is usually available for guests to maintain their workout routines.
  • Family-Friendly Amenities: The kids' club and activities like frame decorating indicate a focus on family enjoyment, making it suitable for guests traveling with children.
  • Event and Meeting Spaces: While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, a resort of Gurney's stature typically offers extensive facilities for weddings, corporate events, and other gatherings, leveraging its stunning location.
  • Seasonal Activities: Depending on the season, the resort likely offers various activities and programming, complementing its leisure offerings.

Regarding "promotional information," Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa would typically offer a range of packages and special rates to attract guests, especially during different seasons. These might include:

  • Spa Packages: Bundling accommodations with spa treatments and wellness experiences.
  • Seasonal Offers: Discounts or added value during off-peak seasons, or special packages for holidays and specific events.
  • Wedding and Event Packages: Tailored offerings for couples planning weddings or organizations hosting corporate retreats.
  • Direct Booking Incentives: Encouraging guests to book directly through their website or by phone (631) 668-2345 to potentially receive exclusive rates, upgrades, or added amenities.
  • Email List Subscriptions: Offering special promotions to those who sign up for their newsletter.
  • Social Media Promotions: Regular updates on their social media channels for last-minute deals or flash sales.

Prospective guests searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" and considering Gurney's Montauk Resort should check their official website for the most up-to-date information on rates, availability, and ongoing promotions. Given the current renovations, it might also be beneficial to inquire about the progress of these upgrades and how they might affect a specific stay. While some guests have noted that the resort "no longer fully meets our expectations for comfort and service now in our 30's" for "top quality service," implying a shift from its earlier perception as a luxury leader, it is still viewed as ideal for a "no-frills, fun stay in Montauk with friends." This suggests that Gurney's can still be a good fit for certain types of travelers, especially those prioritizing the unparalleled beachfront access and a lively atmosphere over meticulous service consistency.

We spent the holiday weekend at the hotel, which is currently undergoing renovations. Overall, our experience was satisfactory, with both positive moments and areas for improvement. Day 1: We were warmly welcomed by a staff member, Carlos who helped us with our luggage, who gifted our child a cute lobster plush toy. Day 2: Breakfast was a pleasant buffet, and the kids' club offered enjoyable activities like frame decorating. My husband enjoyed his morning spa appointment, while I found the amenities to be decent, though not luxurious. However, I encountered issues when ordering a simple grilled cheese in the evening. After some back-and-forth and a delay, my husband had to intervene to get it prepared. Day 3: Presented more challenges. Breakfast was delayed as the hostess overlooked guests, prompting us to head into town instead. Later in the evening, when I requested a snack from the minibar, it took over an hour to arrive, despite two follow-up calls. Just as I decided to wait for a big breakfast instead, the snack finally arrived two hours later. As these pregnancy cravings kicked in, I deliberately chose to request something simple to make it easier for the hotel (I asked for a candy bar). However, the experience fell short of the "luxury" service I expected. As a guest, I shouldn't have to go out of my way to accommodate the shortcomings of a premium establishment. While the staff is friendly, a noticeable lack of organization and visible leadership negatively impacts the service quality. In top-tier hotels, management is actively involved with guests and staff, fostering a cohesive and efficient experience. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. It's important to emphasize that the staff is not at fault; they are capable and eager to excel. What they need is strong leadership to boost morale and enhance their ability to deliver an exceptional guest experience. We had fond memories of staying at this hotel in our 20s and hoped to share those with our children. However, it no longer fully meets our expectations for comfort and service now in our 30's. For a no-frills, fun stay in Montauk with friends, it would be (and was) ideal. Since we are looking for top quality service, we will try The Topping Rose next time. Although in Bridge, we hear its amazing.

My family and I spent an overnight and had treatments at the spa this weekend and unfortunately we experienced a terrible theft in the spa bathroom where my sister’s wedding and engagement rings were stolen potentially during her spa treatment or when she left them in the pocket of her spa robe for a short period of time unattended. The manager was kind but uninformed about protocol and the front desk staff were dismissive. Security was helpful but they had to be prodded by my sister to file a police report and to intervene with staff. Here’s my sister’s account below, and she is incredibly honest and not one to post on Google - but due to dire circumstances and unprofessionalism we are writing to caution guests for the future stays. “The staff was incompetent and completely unaware of how to handle situations like this. When a guest believes that something may have been stolen - wouldn't the manager know how to review the schedule of people who worked in and out of the spa around that time? Know who to contact and think of questions? Know where the robes go and how they are handled? Know what areas have security cameras and which ones don't? Speak to the facialist in my room? Contact all of the guests that came in and left that day to see if they accidentally took a robe, and to check the pockets? Someone clearly stole the rings from my robe, and the hotel staff was acting like a stuffed animal had been misplaced. NO ONE offered me and my family water or refreshments anything during the 3 hours we were there, waiting for someone to put a plan into action. I would have expected at least a discount on the thousands of dollars we spent at the resort - presumably for a relaxing stay with competent staff. I am going to call the resort every day to get an update as to whether anyone has "found" my rings. The rings are a symbol of my 20-year marriage - I have worn them everyday since my wedding day and they have incredibly deep sentimental value.”

UPDATE REVIEW, with a little insistence they changed room for us the next day and made sure that we were comfortable, in the end they were very kind and helpful! I’m very grateful they took our claims seriously and took the necessary steps to make us comfortable. Live Review from the Hotel: I’ve been here for less than 24 hours, and it’s already been the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. We checked into our room (at $700 per night!) only to discover an ant infestation. Ants in the bathroom, ants around the room—completely unacceptable, especially when traveling with young children (I have a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old who now refuse to use the bathroom because of the ants). I immediately contacted the front desk, but was told the hotel is fully booked and they can’t move us to another room. I’ve also been trying to speak to the hotel manager since we arrived, with no success. They sent over a very nice person to “solve the problem” by spraying white vinegar. The videos posted are from the morning after, it clearly did nothing to solve the problem. We still have three more nights here, and I’m hoping this issue gets resolved soon, but so far, I’m extremely disappointed and unimpressed. This is not what I expected from a property at this price point.

The heat was broken in our room and the room was freezing the entire time. In the spa the showers had no not water. I had to walk in my towel to the front desk and was told that there is no hot water but that I could take the robe back to the room? I could not relax in the room either, I could hear creeky footsteps and voices echoing loudly. There is only one small restaurant open and the food is terrible, service extremely slow and was charged for two drinks that I never ordered. Also for most of my stay the fire pits weren’t on, so there are no places to lounge around in the winter. There are no signs anywhere, so it was confusing to get around. For over $1000 per night in in the off season, this place did not seem luxurious and the price was not justified at all. The only nice part was the ocean view and the wine tasting offered, but aside from that there were hardly any activities or entertainment. All of the inconveniences kept building up and made our stay disappointing.
