For many Marylanders, navigating medical care can be a challenging experience, particularly when it involves extended stays or specialized rehabilitation. During such times, having a comfortable, convenient, and supportive place to stay nearby is not just a luxury, but often a necessity. This is precisely the need that the Hackerman-Patz House at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute in Baltimore, MD, is designed to fulfill. It stands out not as a typical commercial hotel, but as a dedicated guest house providing a compassionate "home away from home" for patients and their families.
Located directly on the sprawling, 88-acre campus of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute (UMROI), the Hackerman-Patz House is a testament to thoughtful care beyond the clinical setting. It recognizes that patient recovery is often enhanced by the presence and support of loved ones, and it aims to remove the logistical and financial anxieties that can accompany extended medical stays. For families facing rehabilitation, long-term care, or specialized orthopaedic treatment, this facility offers a unique blend of comfort, affordability, and accessibility.
Unlike standard hotels that cater to general tourism or business travel, the Hackerman-Patz House is specifically tailored to the needs of individuals connected to the medical institute. This focus creates a distinct atmosphere – one often described by guests as "family-like" and incredibly supportive. It's a place where individuals facing similar circumstances can find community, shared resources, and a sense of belonging during what can be a very challenging time.
Whether you're a local Maryland resident whose loved one is receiving care at UMROI, or you're traveling from elsewhere in the state or beyond, understanding the unique offerings of the Hackerman-Patz House is crucial. It’s a resource designed to alleviate stress and facilitate healing by keeping families close. Let's explore what makes this facility such a valuable asset for the Baltimore community and beyond.

Its most significant advantage is its direct adjacency to the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute (UMROI). This unparalleled proximity is a primary benefit for patients and their families, as it means being just steps away from where their loved ones are receiving critical care and rehabilitation services.
This location effectively eliminates the daily commute stress that often accompanies extended hospital stays. This convenience is a key factor in reducing anxiety and supporting the overall well-being of both patients and their caregivers.
While nestled within the hospital campus, the 2100 Kernan Drive address in Baltimore also offers reasonable accessibility to the wider Baltimore metropolitan area. While public transportation options may require some planning, the primary benefit of this location remains its direct connection to the medical institute. For families who are already dealing with the complexities of medical treatment, the ease of access to their loved one's care facility is paramount. Jul 30, 2024 · Red Menapace (THE GRAND WAZOO)So thankful to have such a wonderful place to stay while my daughter was in rehab. This facility is clean, and has all the amenities that you would need. Each room has a small refrigerator and large TV, sitting area and comfortable bed. Huge bathroom suitable for handicapped folks. They have a laundry room available for guests (free to use) they have a common kitchen area for all guests with complimentary breakfast items. Each guest can bring their own food ( labeled) and store in the common refrigerator. They have a full kitchen ( outside grill) for the use of their guests. They only ask that you clean up after yourself. If you have a long term patient at UMROU this place is ideally located across the street. We are so beyond thankful for this wonderful facility and the friendly helpful staff. Plus the grounds are just beat and relaxing.
