We visited for a couple nights while visiting San Antonio and San Marcos. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. The room was clean as well as all the amenities. The pool actually had warm water which was delightful considering it was still kinda chilly outside, so the kids were extremely happy. The breakfast area was super clean and well attended. Everything about our stay was awesome and we would gladly return when in the SA area!
For many Texans, San Antonio is a frequent destination, whether it's for business, visiting family, attending events at the AT&T Center, or simply enjoying the rich history and vibrant culture of the city. When planning a trip, selecting the right hotel is crucial for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. In this article, we’re taking an in-depth look at the Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio/Northeast I-35. As a Hilton brand, Hampton Inn properties are generally known for their consistent quality, complimentary breakfast, and friendly service. However, like any hotel, individual guest experiences can vary. We'll delve into its strategic location, the range of services it aims to provide, and crucial insights from recent guests to help you, a local Texan, make an informed decision for your next stay in the Alamo City.
Hampton Inn & Suites often positions itself as a reliable choice for travelers seeking both comfort and value. The "Hamptonality" promise, emphasizing friendly and attentive service, is a cornerstone of the brand. This specific location, situated off a major interstate, aims to cater to a diverse group of visitors, from those passing through to those staying for an extended period. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and factual overview, allowing you to weigh the advertised amenities against real-world guest feedback. This balanced perspective will help you determine if the Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio/Northeast I-35 aligns with your expectations and requirements for a successful trip to San Antonio.
The Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio/Northeast I-35 is strategically located at 6718 N Interstate 35, San Antonio, TX 78218, USA. This address places it directly on the frontage road of Interstate 35 (I-35), one of the most critical north-south thoroughfares in Texas, connecting San Antonio to Austin, Dallas, and beyond. This prime location offers exceptional accessibility for travelers arriving by car from across the state.
Being right off I-35 means easy on-and-off access, simplifying travel to various parts of San Antonio. The hotel is conveniently situated approximately seven miles from San Antonio International Airport, making it a practical choice for air travelers. For sports and entertainment enthusiasts, the AT&T Center, home of the San Antonio Spurs and various concerts, is just about four miles away. Historic downtown San Antonio, including iconic attractions like The Alamo and the River Walk, is typically an 11-minute drive, though travel times can vary with traffic. Other nearby points of interest mentioned include Fort Sam Houston (2 miles southwest), Morgan's Wonderland (3 miles north), and Splashtown (2 miles south). The surrounding area along I-35 offers a variety of dining options and convenience stores, catering to immediate guest needs. While its location on a major interstate can mean some ambient traffic noise, its direct connectivity is a significant advantage for those looking to explore San Antonio or simply require a convenient stopover point within the city.
Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio/Northeast I-35 generally provides a comprehensive list of services designed to enhance guest comfort and convenience, consistent with the Hampton by Hilton brand standards. However, it's important to note that guest experiences, as highlighted in the provided reviews, can sometimes vary from the advertised ideal. Typically, the hotel offers:
Complimentary Hot Breakfast: A hallmark of Hampton Inn, guests can enjoy a free hot breakfast daily, typically featuring options like eggs, sausage, and the famous Hampton waffles. Reviewers specifically noted the "breakfast area was super clean and well attended."
Free Wi-Fi: High-speed wireless internet access is advertised as complimentary throughout the hotel, including in all guest rooms and public areas. However, one review highlighted issues with digital key functionality and implied challenges with connectivity ("digital key for whatever reason did not function").
Free Self-Parking: Complimentary on-site parking is available for guests, a valuable amenity for those traveling by car.
Indoor Pool and Hot Tub: The hotel features an indoor heated swimming pool and a spa tub for guest relaxation. One positive review mentioned the "pool actually had warm water which was delightful," while a negative review noted the pool lights were "broken" for nighttime swimming.
24-Hour Front Desk: A 24-hour front desk is typically available to assist guests with check-ins, check-outs, and any inquiries. While one guest praised the staff as "extremely accommodating and friendly," another described the "young lady at the desk was friendly-ish" and noted concerns about staff attire, and overall customer service was implied as lacking by the critical review.
Fitness Center: A fitness center is provided for guests to maintain their workout routines while traveling.
Business Center: A 24-hour business center with computer stations and printing facilities is available for guest use.
In-Room Amenities: Guest rooms typically include a flat-screen TV with premium channels, a microwave, a mini-refrigerator, a coffee/tea maker, an iron/ironing board, and a private bathroom with complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer. However, one detailed negative review listed issues such as "furniture was broken, stains were present all over the couch and even some on the 'fresh' pillowcases, and everything was well worn or dilapidated."
Pet-Friendly Rooms: The hotel is advertised as pet-friendly, with a non-refundable fee and weight/size restrictions (typically $75 for 1-4 nights, $125 for 5+ nights, for dogs/cats up to 75 lbs, 2 pets max).
Digital Key and Digital Check-in: As a Hilton property, it offers digital key functionality via the Hilton Honors app for direct room access. However, one review explicitly stated that the "digital key for whatever reason did not function."
Housekeeping: Daily housekeeping is typically standard, but one review noted a sign indicating "housekeeping is only on site every other day and that clean towels had to be requested at the front desk."
The Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio/Northeast I-35 offers a mix of positive and concerning features, as evidenced by diverse guest feedback:
Highly Praised Staff (Positive Experience): One review emphatically highlights "The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly," indicating a strong potential for excellent customer service and a welcoming atmosphere when the experience is positive.
Consistent Cleanliness (Positive Experience): For some guests, the "room was clean as well as all the amenities" and the "breakfast area was super clean and well attended." This suggests a commitment to cleanliness that, when achieved, is highly appreciated.
Warm Indoor Pool: A delightful feature, especially during cooler weather, as one guest specifically noted the "pool actually had warm water," making it enjoyable for families.
Strategic Location on I-35: Its direct access to I-35 is a key highlight for travelers, providing easy navigation to San Antonio International Airport, the AT&T Center, and downtown attractions.
Complimentary Hot Breakfast: The inclusion of a free hot breakfast is a significant value-add, offering convenience and savings for guests.
Spacious Suites: As a Hampton Inn & Suites, it typically offers larger room layouts with separate living areas, which can be a highlight for families or those needing more space.
However, it's crucial to acknowledge the significant negative experiences detailed in another review:
Inconsistent Maintenance and Wear: A major concern is that "Everything at this hotel is on the verge of being broke or broken." This included "broken furniture, stains... on the couch and even some on the 'fresh' pillowcases, and everything was well worn or dilapidated." This indicates a potential lack of consistent maintenance and updates.
Door Closure Issues: The inability for room doors to self-close without "aggressively lean into the door" is a safety and convenience issue, noted as a "common theme on floor 4."
Questionable Cleanliness (Negative Experience): Contrary to the positive review, another guest stated, "cleaning here is not a top priority as nothing in my room felt or or appeared clean," citing a "fog smear" on the window.
Digital Key Malfunction: The failure of the digital key to function defeats a key convenience for Hilton Honors members.
Pool Lighting Issues: The indoor pool's lights being "broken" for nighttime swimming impacts usability and safety.
Inconsistent Housekeeping Policy: The "odd" policy of housekeeping being "only on site every other day" with clean towels requiring request at the front desk is unusual for a hotel brand of this caliber and can be inconvenient.
Perceived Poor Value: Despite being a Hilton property, one guest found it overpriced for the condition, stating it was "just shy of $160 after taxes and fees," while a nearby Holiday Inn was "about $30 cheaper and much, much nicer and far cleaner."
As a Hampton Inn & Suites, this property is part of the Hilton family of brands and participates in the Hilton Honors loyalty program. While specific, real-time transient promotions are dynamic and change frequently, Texans looking for special offers typically have access to:
Hilton Honors Member Rates: Members of the Hilton Honors program can often access exclusive discounted rates, accumulate points for free nights, and enjoy benefits like digital check-in and digital key (though this specific hotel had issues with digital key in one review). Signing up for Hilton Honors is free and provides immediate benefits.
AAA/AARP Discounts: Special rates are commonly available for AAA and AARP members, offering a percentage off the standard rate upon presentation of a valid membership card.
Government/Military Rates: For eligible government employees and military personnel, discounted rates are usually offered, which can be particularly beneficial given San Antonio's strong military presence.
Package Deals: Hilton.com and major online travel agencies (OTAs) occasionally feature package deals that combine room nights with other services or local attractions, though these might be more prevalent at leisure-focused properties.
Seasonal Promotions: Keep an eye out for seasonal sales or limited-time offers directly on Hilton's website, which can include discounts for booking in advance or for extended stays.
It is always recommended to check the official Hilton website or call the hotel directly to inquire about the most current promotions that may apply to your travel dates and specific needs. Given the discrepancies in guest experiences regarding value, it's particularly important to carefully review all terms and conditions of any booking.

For Texans visiting San Antonio, choosing a hotel often involves weighing brand familiarity, location, and value. The Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio/Northeast I-35, as a Hilton-affiliated property, presents a complex picture of suitability based on recent guest experiences.
On one hand, its location directly on Interstate 35 is undeniably advantageous for local Texans. Whether you're driving in from another part of the state, needing quick access to the San Antonio International Airport, or attending an event at the AT&T Center, the ease of access is a significant plus. For those who prioritize this specific geographical convenience, along with the expected Hampton Inn standard of complimentary hot breakfast and an indoor pool (with the caveat of its reported lighting issues), it could be a practical choice. The positive review highlights "extremely accommodating and friendly" staff and "super clean" amenities, suggesting that when the hotel is performing well, it provides a very pleasant stay. This consistent positive experience, if it can be relied upon, makes it a suitable "go-to place" for some.
However, the detailed negative review presents significant red flags that any Texan should carefully consider. Reports of "broken or broken" furniture, "stains," questionable cleanliness, difficulty with room doors, and especially the malfunction of the digital key system and "odd" housekeeping policies, severely impact the "dependable" brand image Hampton Inn strives for. The feeling that the hotel is "well worn or dilapidated" and that a nearby competitor offers a "much, much nicer and far cleaner" experience for less money is a critical piece of information for value-conscious Texans. Ultimately, while the Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio/Northeast I-35 offers the convenience of a major brand and a strategic location, potential guests, particularly locals seeking a reliable and consistently positive experience, should approach this property with caution, perhaps verifying the current room conditions or considering the alternative suggested by the critical reviewer.

Mar 21, 2025 · Luis CuellarI only write reviews for two reasons, the experience was above and beyond, or the experience was well below expectations, the latter is the case for this review. When I do stay at Hilton properties I stay there for one main reason, I can go straight to my room and avoid the whole check in process because of the digital key on the app. The digital key for whatever reason did not function when I arrived, so had to go "check" in at the desk, which really defeats the purpose of a digital key. The young lady at the desk was friendly-ish, but her attire didn't allude to the fact that she was at work. If she wasn't standing behind the desk, I would have assumed she was another guest. Everything at this hotel is on the verge of being broke or broken. My room (403) was a representation of that fact. I don't have the patience to list the entire list of things that were wrong, but furniture was broken, stains were present all over the couch and even some on the "fresh" pillowcases, and everything was well worn or dilapidated (well beyond normal wear and tear). The door to the room would not close without applied force, I am a 220 lb man that had to aggressively lean into the door to get it to close. This was a common theme on floor 4, as most of the doors did not seem too self-close as they should. Cleaning; like art, is subjective to your viewpoint. My viewpoint was that cleaning here is not a top priority as nothing in my room felt or appeared clean. The "fog smear" on the window didn't allow for refreshing views of the local scenery. Side note: when I checked out, I noticed a sign that stated that housekeeping is only on site every other day and that clean towels had to be requested at the front desk if needed during the cleaning crews "off" days - I found this very odd, but there was a gentleman getting fresh towels at the front desk when I checked out, so I guess to some this is acceptable. The pool at the hotel appeared nice, though the lights must be broken because I swam in the dark with only the actual underwater pool lights on for illumination. Probably for the best, can't scrutinize what you can't see. I had planned to stay three nights but left after only one. I travel extensively for work and don't often stay at Hiltons anymore due to issues like this. I would be ashamed as a Hilton to have my name representing this property. My recommendation, drive two more miles down the road and stay at the Holiday Inn near Buffalo Wild Wings. The Hampton Inn charged me just shy of $160 after taxes and fees, the Holiday Inn down the road was about $30 cheaper and much, much nicer and far cleaner. Just my two cents, stay where you choose, but I will not stay again at this location nor recommend others from my company stay there either.
May 30, 2025 · Anthony “Andy” BroganWhat an absolute dump! Avoid at all cost. A coworker and I arrived and the front desk clerk hardly knew their job. When we went up to our rooms, one elevator was broken and the other smelled like urine. There was no heat on the floor our rooms were. The door on my room would not secure and my coworker had lamps with bare wires. When we informed the front desk that we would not stay, they tried charging us for the night. The manager was completely uncooperative and could only offer excuses rather fix the problems or cancel the reservations without cost.
Feb 20, 2025 · Jessica PolacekAvoid this place. Got a gross room and the GM was unwilling to do anything to fix it or accommodate. I left after one night and he tried to charge me for the remaining nights. I disputed the charges for the extra nights and now they are trying to suspend my Honors account. This place does not understand customer service and only cares about your money. Edit: And you can see below that the GM is unapologetic, unreasonable and doesn't care, just wants to get paid
Apr 23, 2025 · Blake FullerWe have stayed here multiple times because of ease of access and convenience. The rooms are clean and the people are friendly. Also, the breakfast is good.
