I recently brought a group of 34 folks to the Hillwinds Inn. 17 fellow graduates of the United States Naval Academy, and their wives. This is our 50th anniversary year of our graduation. Among our group there is a retired executive of a Major Retailer, a three star US Navy Admiral, a senior executive of a US Spy Agency, and retired career US Navy, Marine Corps, and State Department executives. We came to the North Carolina mountains to renew our ancient bonds of brotherhood. We came to the Hillwinds Inn since I had stayed here twice before during family reunions, and knew it to be SUPER convenient to ‘downtown’ Blowing Rock, very inexpensive during the tail end of the off season, very clean, and perfect for our purpose of sleep, tour, dine, reunite, repeat. Kelly Pahl, the Hotel Group manager was eager to get and keep our Group’s business. I dealt with her off-and-on long distance over a year and a half. She was exceedingly solicitous. Every member of the hotel staff was very courteous and professional: Hayden, both Sams, Nick on the front desk all were all on the lookout to take care of our every need. There was NOTHING we needed! The cleaning staff were friendly and professional. If you are coming to the Blowing Rock area, you can spend a lot more money. The Hillwinds Inn was perfect for OUR three night stay! I'm writing this review on behalf of and with the blessing of 33 other guests!

May 07, 2025 · Jeff ColeWhat a hidden gem in the heart of Blowing Rock. If you want new and modern this isn’t for you. But if you want clean, comfortable, quiet and lots of charm within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in BR this is for you. What a value! Will absolutely be back!!
Apr 13, 2025 · Michelle ColemanThey were nice people working there, but that is the most positive information I can provide. It’s a small business, so there is no one working at night, just an emergency number. That’s actually fine. But our shower had no hot water in the morning. We kept turning the hot water on and nothing. We left a message and checked when we returned from a hike. We were told that the room had hot water going to it. Nice gentleman came back to the room to show us & he realized the problem is the knob. (I had a cold shower earlier & the tub had not drained.) He offered us another room in which to shower. Not sure why he didn’t contact us about the hot water to better follow up on our original concern. Also, never offered a refund for such an inconvenience. I guess this is a place to stay for a night; I’m grateful it wasn’t longer. And they are nice people.
Jul 16, 2024 · Donna ConfereWebsite claimed the cancellation time was one way and after booking, it became a different way. When I tried to cancel due to the birth of our first grandchild, the man on the phone sounded like a robot! Really didn't care why. In fact, told me to contact Booking.com. Booking.com said call property. I will not be recommending this Motel! I hope they donate the money they took for helping the affected folks with damage do to Helene!
