We were charged a fraudulent, false 102.41 in addition to having paid the hotel in full through booking.com. When calling the hotel to fix it, the rude employee said that it was a part of the room charge and and our card was declined for one of the nights - which is also false as this business card has a 40k limit and all other charges on that business trip went through as well. Plus, they should have never charged us for the room anyway because we paid the full balance on booking.com. Other than this unprofessional and fraudulent additional charge by the hotel, this Holiday Inn is a complete dump with holes in the walls and the employees are extremely unfriendly. We can absolutely not recommend this place - stay away!

However, recent customer reviews suggest that this particular property faces significant challenges in meeting those expectations.
The "Hotels Near Of Me" category is designed to help users quickly locate suitable accommodations within their immediate vicinity. The Holiday Inn Express Harrisburg SW - Mechanicsburg benefits from its strategic location on Carlisle Pike, a major commercial artery in the Mechanicsburg area. The hotel's location provides convenient access to both Mechanicsburg and the broader Harrisburg metropolitan area. For those traveling by car, its proximity to major routes allows for relatively easy navigation to regional attractions, corporate offices, and institutions. Despite being on a busy road, the general expectation for a Holiday Inn Express is to offer a reasonably quiet interior for a comfortable night's sleep. However, specific details about external noise levels are not provided in the reviews, which focus more on internal conditions and interactions.
Holiday Inn Express hotels typically aim to offer a streamlined set of services and features that provide good value for money, focusing on essential comforts and conveniences. Based on general brand standards and the provided customer reviews, here's an objective look at this particular property:
Accommodation: Guests looking for a clean and comfortable place to sleep might find the basic comfort. One review stated, "it was clean and comfortable" for just sleeping while driving through. However, another review paints a very different picture, describing the hotel as a "complete dump with holes in the walls," indicating significant issues with room maintenance and overall physical condition. This stark contrast suggests a high degree of inconsistency in room quality across the property.
Cleanliness: As noted, there's conflicting information on cleanliness. One guest found it "clean," while another's description of "holes in the walls" implies a general lack of upkeep that often correlates with cleanliness issues, even if not explicitly stated as dirty.
Complimentary Breakfast: As is standard for Holiday Inn Express properties, the hotel provides a complimentary breakfast. This is a valuable amenity that helps guests save time and money, offering a convenient start to the day. While not detailed in the reviews, it's a core offering of the brand.
Staff Interaction and Professionalism (Significant Concerns): This is a major area of concern based on the provided reviews. One customer explicitly states that the "employees are extremely unfriendly" and describes a "rude employee" when attempting to resolve a billing issue. Furthermore, there's a highly serious accusation of a "fraudulent, false" additional charge of $102.41, with the hotel allegedly attempting to justify it with false claims of a declined card, despite the room already being paid in full through a third-party booking site. This type of alleged financial misconduct and rude customer service is a severe red flag for any potential guest.
Amenities: Holiday Inn Express typically offers free Wi-Fi, which is essential for both leisure and business travelers. However, a review noted that the hotel "didn't have an indoor pool," which might be a disappointment for guests expecting this amenity, as it is common in some Holiday Inn Express locations. Regarding family amenities, when a "portable crib or pack and play" was requested, the desk staff's response was uncertain ("he thinks they have 1 crate but he isn't sure where it is"), indicating a potential lack of organization or training regarding such requests.
Property Condition: The description of the hotel as "one of the more dated Holiday Inns" and having "holes in the walls" points to a property that is in need of significant renovation and maintenance. This suggests that the hotel's physical appearance and functionality might be below the typical standards expected from a Holiday Inn Express, especially for guests accustomed to newer or well-maintained IHG properties.
Security: While not explicitly detailed, the alleged fraudulent charge raises concerns about financial security when dealing with this specific property.
As an IHG hotel, Holiday Inn Express Harrisburg SW - Mechanicsburg participates in the IHG One Rewards loyalty program. This program allows guests to earn points for their stays, which can be redeemed for free nights, exclusive member rates, and various other benefits across the IHG brand family. For those who frequently search "Hotels Near Of Me" and choose IHG properties, enrolling in IHG One Rewards is highly recommended to maximize travel value.
IHG and Holiday Inn Express frequently offer various promotional deals and discounts. These can include:
Member-Exclusive Rates: Special pricing for IHG One Rewards members.

Seasonal Promotions: Offers tied to specific holidays, travel seasons, or regional events.
Extended Stay Rates: For guests planning longer visits, discounted rates might be available, offering more economical options.
AAA/AARP and Government/Military Rates: Special pricing for eligible members and personnel.
Given the severe negative feedback regarding alleged fraudulent charges, rude staff, and significant physical disrepair, any potential guest considering Holiday Inn Express Harrisburg SW - Mechanicsburg is strongly advised to exercise extreme caution. It is paramount to contact the hotel directly at (717) 790-0924 or +1 717-790-0924 before booking, especially if using a third-party site. Inquire about the hotel's current condition, confirm all charges, and clarify any specific needs. May 09, 2025 · Mona Paradise ParkingWe just slept there while driving through, it was clean and comfortable. It was one of the more dated Holiday Inns, and didn't have an indoor pool. I asked for a portable crib or pack and play and the man at the desk responded that he thinks they have 1 crate but he isn't sure where it is. IDK if it was a communication barrier or what but I just put the baby in my bed.
Apr 30, 2025 · Sadie HallThe WORST Holiday Inn Express stay ever. This hotel is so unbelievably outdated. 1 elevator that sounded as if it was gonna collapse at anytime for the whole hotel. The whole hotel was dark, dingy, not well kept at all. Looks nice from the outside but the inside looks as though it is straight out of a 1960's horror film. At check-in the FD clerk came across as rude and unprofessional. No greeting, never told us about breakfast or where to find an ice machine, was annoyed when I asked where the elevator was. The only 'direction' he gave us was take the elevator to 3rd floor. When we got to our room, noticed brown stains on the sheets, the only chair to sit on was covered in stains, the floor was terribly uneven, the foot of the bed was about 6 inches higher then the head of the bed, the TV wouldn't turn on (eventually it came on) or off. It looked as if someone slept on the bed before we got there and all the did was fluff the pillows. I went down to the desk and complained. We got switched to a new room and that wasn't any better. The bathroom was made for people who are 4' tall and shorter. The tub, toilet and sink all came to my knees. There was all kinds of residue on the fridge. The fire alarm looked as if it was installed in 1950's and wouldn't work in an emergency situation. The chair in the 2nd room wasn't any better than the 1st. My dad didn't feel comfortable or safe even sitting down on the bed. I didn't feel comfortable or safe staying there. I would have rather stayed in my car in Chicago. We decided that we weren't gonna stay. I was gonna pay for the room but weren't staying. When we informed the FD clerk that we didn't feel safe or comfortable and we were leaving, he argued with me telling me to stay. After 5x of me telling him we were leaving, did he 'get the picture.' He did inform me that my card wouldn't be charged until after audit went thru after 3am. That was fine with me. The next day, I noticed that I was never checked out of the room and stopped by simply to get my receipt. For a hotel, there should be at least a dozen cars in the parking lot at 1130am (front desk clerk, housekeepers, and guest vehicles), when I pulled in the parking lot my car was the ONLY vehicle in the lot. There weren't any employees in the building either. I waited 15 minutes for someone to help me, but nobody ever showed up. Not even 1 other car in the lot. The phone rang 6x and nobody answered it. This is the worst Holiday Inn Express stay ever. I won't be back and I won't refer this place. As a matter of fact, I will tell everyone to STAY AWAY from this location.
Apr 11, 2025 · Nikki KrausseThe staff were horrible they cared more about their phone content, then helping you! They charged us twice and will do nothing about it, even when we involved IHG corporate. The room was nasty, peeling paint, the bathroom door was all chipped up, the tub drain was backed up, and faucet poured more water out the bottom than through the shower head. The bed was all worn out. The elevator was so sketchy that we used the stairs. We did not even try the food, because we did not want to get sick. DO NOT waste your time or money on this old out dated run down dump.
Apr 01, 2025 · Dan BollI had a great experience, the room was nice and clean, the room was a good size and the bathroom was very clean. It was in a good location. It was a nice hotel.
