****Warning**** Do NOT stay here unless you are prepared to FULLY clean the cabin upon departure. There is a list a mile long of what you can't do, and the "management company" at check in threatens they don't want "bad renters". They are short staffed on cleaning people, and nickel and dime you for your security deposit to pay for them to "clean" the cabin. We took sheets off the beds, swept the entire cabin, and left what we thought was left it in pretty good condition for them to clean the rest. Boy were we wrong!! It's unfortunate as we had been coming to Lofty Pines for years. With the new management we will never be back. Steve especially has issues about making sure it's known he is the boss, and definitely takes it out on renters. Just not very vacation friendly.
For many Wisconsin residents, a trip to the Northwoods is a cherished tradition, a journey to a familiar place of natural beauty and relaxation. Lofty Pines Resort, located in the heart of St. Germain, has been a part of this tradition for many, with some guests having visited since the 1970s. As a content writer specializing in local business SEO, it's important to provide a comprehensive and factual overview of this resort, which has recently undergone a change in management. The resort is situated on the beautiful shores of Big St. Germain Lake, a popular destination for fishing, boating, and other recreational activities. Its history as a beloved vacation spot for decades is a testament to its prime location and the enduring appeal of the Northwoods.
The transition to new management has brought with it significant changes to the guest experience, as noted by several visitors. These changes, particularly concerning cleaning policies and customer service, have been a point of discussion among both long-time and first-time guests. The new management has reportedly implemented a stricter policy regarding cabin cleanliness upon departure, a measure that has led to deductions from security deposits. While some guests have found the new management to be friendly and courteous, others have described the policies and interactions as "not very vacation friendly." This shift in a long-standing resort's culture is an important consideration for anyone planning a trip, especially for those who have been coming to Lofty Pines for years. The feedback highlights a new approach to managing the resort, which is something potential visitors should be aware of as they plan their Northwoods getaway.
Lofty Pines Resort is located at 8767 Big St Germain Dr, with its full address being 8767 Big St Germain Dr #8933, St Germain, WI 54558, USA. This location places it directly on Big St. Germain Lake, one of the most well-known and frequented lakes in the Vilas County area. The town of St. Germain is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a wide array of activities, dining options, and local shops. The resort's address provides convenient access to the lake, making it a prime spot for water-based recreation. Its position within the Northwoods is ideal for a classic Wisconsin vacation, as it is surrounded by the natural beauty of the area while still being accessible to the amenities of St. Germain.
For residents of Wisconsin, the accessibility of a Northwoods resort is a key factor in planning a trip. Lofty Pines is a manageable drive from many of the state's major cities, allowing for both long vacations and shorter weekend getaways. The location on a large, well-known lake is a significant draw, providing ample opportunities for fishing, boating, and other water sports. However, the convenience of the location must be considered alongside the changes in resort management. The recent feedback suggests that while the location and its natural beauty remain a strong draw, the on-site experience has changed. This is an important detail for local visitors who are often looking for a combination of convenience and a welcoming, hassle-free environment.
Based on publicly available information and guest reviews, Lofty Pines Resort offers a variety of services, though some have been affected by the change in management.
Cabin Rentals: The resort provides cabins for rent, which have been noted as being "nicely upgraded by the new owners." The accommodations are a central part of the guest experience, offering a place to stay on Big St. Germain Lake.
Beach and Water Access: The resort has a beach and provides access to boats for guests. However, recent reviews indicate that the maintenance and upkeep of these areas have declined, with boats not being as well-maintained or put in the water for guests as in the past.
Management and Customer Service: The management company now handles guest relations, and while some guests have found them to be "friendly and courteous," others have had negative experiences regarding their strict cleaning policies and interactions. This change from the previous owner who lived on-site is a notable shift in the level of service and assistance available.
Strict Cleaning Policy: A significant service-related point is the resort's strict cleaning policy. Guests are required to "FULLY clean the cabin upon departure," with a long list of requirements. Failure to do so can result in a deduction from the security deposit, which is used to cover the cost of cleaning.
The features and highlights of Lofty Pines Resort are centered around its location and accommodations, though recent changes have impacted some aspects of the experience.
Prime Lakefront Location: The resort's most significant highlight is its location on Big St. Germain Lake. The lake is a premier destination for a wide range of activities and is a beautiful setting for a Northwoods vacation.
Upgraded Cabins: The new owners have invested in upgrading the cabins, which is a positive feature for guests who appreciate modern amenities and a well-maintained living space.
Historic Resort: Lofty Pines has a long history as a vacation spot, with a loyal following of guests who have been coming for decades. This legacy is a testament to the resort's enduring appeal as a classic Northwoods destination.
Natural Beauty: The surrounding natural beauty of Vilas County is a major highlight, offering a peaceful and scenic environment for guests to enjoy.
Potential for Family Fun: Despite the recent changes, the resort's location on a large lake and its history as a family destination means it has the potential for a fun-filled vacation, particularly for those who are prepared for the new policies.

From the perspective of a Wisconsin resident, Lofty Pines Resort presents a complex picture. On one hand, its prime location on Big St. Germain Lake and its long history as a vacation destination make it a traditional Northwoods getaway. For a local, the appeal of a familiar spot with a long-standing reputation is strong. On the other hand, the recent changes in management and the new, strict cleaning policies are a significant departure from the typical, laid-back resort experience many locals are accustomed to. A Wisconsinite planning a trip would need to weigh the resort's beautiful location and upgraded cabins against the potential for a less "vacation-friendly" environment and the need for meticulous cleaning upon departure. This destination is suitable for locals who are fully aware of and prepared for these new policies, and who prioritize the resort's location and updated accommodations over a more traditional, hands-off approach to guest services.

Jul 21, 2021 · Jeff ThielVery nice place. I've been going there since 1972 and it's been nicely upgraded by the new owners. Per one of the other guest reviews, you will need to be fastidious about cleaning before leaving or the mgt will dock you on your security deposit. In other words, the security deposit is not just for damage per se, but to cover cleaning that most people would consider normal course of duty by housekeeping at other places. It could be because they are understaffed (or appear to be), so just beware. You might even want to hire a cleaning company to come in when you check out to make sure the place is absolutely spotless. For example, if mgt finds a gummy bear lurking somewhere in the corner or under a cushion, you will be docked. I can show you photos of what was found that led to a deduction of $100 from our deposit. Not a lot of money, but just keep that in mind. Might be better just to raise the rates by $100 so an not to alienate customers. On the other hand, the mgt is very friendly and courteous, which is nice to see. Timely assistance, on the other hand, is somewhat hard to come by, which is a negative compared to the previous owner who lived on site. But again, this may be due to an overall shortage of help which seems to be the case everywhere in Vilas county. The beach and boats are not as well maintained, cleaned and orderly as in the past, which strikes me as somewhat of a double standard given what management expects of guests in terms of tidiness. For example, boats are not wiped down, anchor winches don't work and the boats are not put in the water for quests. Also, the beach was not raked and we had to navigate around a stinky, rotting walleye for 4 days before I finally decided to clean it up myself. May sound like I'm being negative, but I don't mean to be. We love the place and just want to hold management to the same expectations as they hold the guests so that we can all do a better going forward.
Jul 03, 2022 · Clay ElwardAlthough I haven't been up there in a couple of years now, this is by far one of my favorite places in the entire world. My family and I came to Lofty Pines for 21 years before it became too hard to get everyone together. The lodging isn't glamorous, but its cozy and cute (that's really all one needs while in the north woods.) The land on and around the resort is beautiful, offers plenty of wildlife, and is great for kids to play. There is a sand beach and very clean/shallow water frontage for young children. There is also a floating raft that is a swimmable distance away from the shore. Tin Boat/Kayak rentals are available too (tons of lily pads and loons in the area) The owner and his family keep the area clean and are available enough to ask questions but not over crowding. My siblings and I learned to ski off the back of the owners boat along with the same families that came year after year. The people I met there became family and we still keep in touch to this day. If you're looking for a cute up north getaway with young kids or families, this is your place!
