Hello, fellow Iowans! When we think of a perfect getaway in our state, the picturesque landscapes and river towns of Eastern Iowa often come to mind. For those planning a trip to the scenic community of Lansing, finding a place to stay that feels both unique and welcoming is key. The River View Inn, located right on the Mississippi River, offers just that—a one-of-a-kind lodging experience that blends historical character with modern convenience. This place isn't your typical big-box hotel; it's a cozy and memorable spot that has garnered praise for its clean rooms, generous amenities, and stunning location. We're here to provide a detailed look at what makes the River View Inn a standout choice for anyone looking to explore the beauty of the Driftless Area.
The River View Inn offers a distinct lodging experience that sets it apart from more conventional hotels. Based on guest feedback, the inn is known for its clean and well-maintained rooms, which are often described as being fully stocked with everything you need and more. This attention to detail and readiness for guests is a major plus. The self check-in process is another feature that many guests find incredibly convenient, offering flexibility and ease of access. However, it's worth noting that this system can present a challenge if a problem arises upon arrival. While some guests have experienced difficulty reaching staff, it's also clear that the owners are quick to resolve issues once contacted. The inn's character and history are also major selling points, giving it a charm that's hard to find elsewhere. It’s the kind of place that provides a story, not just a bed. While some guests have noted the proximity to the railway line and the noise it can generate, others have found that the pros of a stay here—like the pet-friendly policy and the comfortable, roomy accommodations—far outweigh any potential cons. For those of us who appreciate a unique and character-filled stay, this inn is a compelling choice.
The location of the River View Inn is a huge part of its appeal. The address, 60 S Front St, places it directly on the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown Lansing. This prime spot offers guests fantastic views and immediate access to the riverfront. Being on Front Street also means you're just steps away from the heart of the town, allowing for easy walks to local shops, restaurants, and other downtown attractions. The accessibility of the inn is excellent, making it a convenient stop for travelers on a scenic drive or those who want to be immersed in the small-town atmosphere of Lansing. While its location is scenic, it's important to know that a railway line runs very close to the building. This is a point that has been mentioned in reviews, as the trains can be loud, even for a heavy sleeper. However, for many guests, the trade-off for the beautiful river views and the historical charm of the location is well worth it.
The River View Inn provides a range of thoughtful services that cater to a comfortable and independent stay. These services focus on convenience and making guests feel right at home from the moment they arrive.
The River View Inn has several key features and highlights that make it a standout destination in Lansing. These are the elements that contribute to its unique charm and guest satisfaction.

The River View Inn is an excellent choice for us Iowans for a number of reasons. Its charm and unique character make it a perfect spot for a local getaway or a staycation in the beautiful Driftless region. The pet-friendly policy is a huge bonus, as many of us consider our pets to be part of the family and want to bring them along on our travels. Furthermore, the inn's self-check-in process provides a level of independence and flexibility that can be very appealing, especially for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. While the inn's proximity to the railroad track is something to be aware of, the beautiful river views and the cozy, well-equipped rooms are often cited as more than making up for it. For a truly unique, comfortable, and independent stay right on the Mississippi River, the River View Inn is a great choice for anyone in our community seeking a memorable experience in a historic Iowa town.

Dec 20, 2023 · Amy GreenI needed to contact staff when i arrived and tried the manager's number but there was no answer and so I left a message. Had dinner, still no response after that. Tried the email address as well, no response. Eventually i found the owners number and they answered and resolved the issue quickly. The railway line runs through town and right passed the hotel door, like 10 ft away. The last train was at 1am and would wake up the heaviest of sleepers. Interesting place though with character and history. Cons outweighed the pros.
Jul 31, 2023 · Iain WilsonIt was pretty cool but had a few issues that were upsetting but didn't let it ruin the weekend. Shower drain plugged twice which they fixed twice. Customers from bar next door kept parking in our reserved spot even though it's posted! Kitchen disposal drain & living room had a terrible smell. I sprayed LOTS of air freshener which took care of it. Definitely was worth the getaway but a bit pricey for what it was. Not sure if we'll stay there again or not. Stayed in the Penthouse. Stayed 6/10-6/13/21
Jun 28, 2021 · David BringmannGreat stay, clean and everything you would need is there for an overnight or extended stay. Stayed in the penthouse suite, lots of room and the balcony was great to just watch the river flow by. Only drawback was 1 bathroom, not a deal breaker, though. Few bars and restaurants just a quick walk away and a small grocery up the street. Looking to come back again and stay longer to explore the area on the motorcycle. As easy as it gets for check in/out, very nice people to deal with!
Jun 25, 2018 · Art HallWhat a cool place! It's an old converted warehouse from the 1800's and appropriately funky. If you're looking for deluxe accomodations this isn't your spot. If you want something different and cool, with a great deck overlooking the river, and a coffee shop built in, this is your spot!
