My family has been coming here for close to fifty years, so longer than I have been alive. Four of the cabins (2, 3, 4 & 5) were rebuilt after a fire when I was in highschool, circa 2007. Unfortunately, it is now more difficult to rent them due to each cabin being sold off individually instead of as an entire resort. But this place contains some of the best memories of my childhood: time spent with family, the beach with the pier, trips to Eagle River and Three Lakes for the candy store and ice cream. My dream would be to win the lottery, buy the resort, and let my family stay here for free during our traditional week.
For generations of Wisconsin families, a trip "up north" to a lakeside cabin is a cherished tradition, a time-honored escape from the daily routine. Rustlewood Resort in Three Lakes is a place where these traditions are not only continued but celebrated. As one guest’s review poignantly states, their family has been coming to the resort for nearly fifty years, a testament to the deep-rooted memories and lasting appeal of this special place. Situated on the shores of the expansive Three Lakes Chain, Rustlewood Resort offers a quintessential Northwoods experience, blending the rustic charm of a lakeside cabin with the modern comforts that make a vacation truly relaxing. It's a place where the haunting calls of the loons at night, the beauty of the lake, and the simple joy of time with family come together to create unforgettable moments.
The cabins at Rustlewood Resort are a key part of its appeal. As one reviewer mentioned, several of the cabins were rebuilt after a fire, and the new structures are highly praised. The resort is described as having "the best, most well stocked cabins on the chain," a sentiment reinforced by another guest who noted the cabins were "renovated recently." The result is a series of "beautiful, updated cabins" that combine the nostalgic feel of a Northwoods retreat with modern amenities. Guests can expect a "fresh clean water" experience, a "little piece of heaven" that wakes their "inner pioneer" while providing all the comforts of home. The cabins feature modern kitchens and are fully stocked, making it easy for families to prepare meals and enjoy their time without having to worry about the basics. This blend of new and old is what makes a stay at Rustlewood Resort so special for those who have been coming for years and those discovering it for the first time.
The location of the resort is another major highlight. Nestled on the Three Lakes Chain, it offers guests stunning lake views and direct access to a world-class system of waterways. The resort features a swimming beach with a pier, perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day. As one family recalled, the beach and pier were a central part of their childhood memories, providing a place for swimming and playing. The resort also offers plenty of boat and truck parking, and with docks for boats, it's an ideal base for fishing, boating, and water sports. The natural surroundings, with fresh, clean water and the sounds of nature, create a truly serene atmosphere. This peaceful setting, however, doesn't mean isolation. The resort is located in Three Lakes, with the town and the popular Eagle River area just a short drive away, offering access to local candy stores, ice cream shops, and other small-town attractions.
Rustlewood Resort is a true four-season destination, making it a perfect choice for locals year-round. While the summer months are filled with lake activities, the resort also caters to winter adventurers. As one reviewer noted, "snow shoers are welcome in winter," highlighting the property's accessibility to a variety of cold-weather activities. The area is known for its snowmobile and cross-country ski trails, and the resort's private, secluded setting offers a peaceful starting point for these adventures. The comfort of a modern, heated cabin with a gas fireplace (in some units) provides a cozy retreat after a day spent in the snow. This versatility ensures that whether you’re looking for a warm-weather family vacation or a winter sports weekend, Rustlewood Resort is a fantastic option.
The unique nature of Rustlewood Resort as a collection of individually owned cabins, as mentioned in a guest review, adds to its unique character. While this may make booking a bit more complex, it also speaks to the personalized nature of each cabin and the pride of ownership that goes into their maintenance. The resort's family-friendly policies, including quiet hours, ensure a respectful and peaceful environment for all guests. The memories created at places like this are what make them so special, and Rustlewood Resort is a place that has been a part of many families' histories for decades, a testament to its enduring charm and appeal.
Rustlewood Resort's blend of natural beauty, modern comfort, and a strong sense of tradition make it a standout choice for anyone seeking a true Wisconsin getaway. It’s a place that honors the past while providing a high-quality experience for the present. The peaceful surroundings, combined with the convenience of well-equipped cabins and access to a wide range of activities, create a vacation that is both relaxing and engaging. It’s the kind of place where a simple fishing trip or a family gathering becomes a cherished memory, ensuring that guests, whether they are new visitors or returning for the fiftieth year, will leave with a deep appreciation for the resort and the Northwoods.
