In my mind this is a perfect spot to stay and fish the Salmon River. It is within walking distance of the lower fly fishing section and plenty of other great spots. Get in the truck and you can fish all the other holes on the river. The rooms are not fancy which is perfect for me. At the end of the day of fishing all you need is a warm room, and maybe a place to tie some flies and a bed to sleep in! I stayed in room number 2. A smaller room but there were only two of us and worked out nicely. Our room did have a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker with coffee, sugar and powdered creamer. Cable TV with spotty Wi-Fi but that's okay you're not there for that! You are there for the world-class fishery that it is! Keep in mind when booking in the area, a lot of places do not supply Linens, the schoolhouse in does supply all of your Linens! Enjoy your trip! Fish on ! Thanks Rob for a great stay!

This platform aims to provide immediate and localized results, and this inn aligns perfectly by offering a readily available and cost-effective option for those drawn to the Altmar area for its exceptional fishery. Whether you're an experienced angler, a group of friends on a fishing trip, or simply seeking a basic, convenient place to stay, the School House Inn is designed with practicality and the outdoor enthusiast in mind.

The environment of the School House Inn is defined by its prime location for fishing enthusiasts. It is lauded as a "perfect spot to stay and fish the Salmon River." Crucially, it is "within walking distance of the lower fly fishing section and plenty of other great spots." This direct access to the river eliminates the need for extensive travel, allowing guests to maximize their time on the water. Beyond immediate walking access, guests can "Get in the truck and you can fish all the other holes on the river," indicating its central location for exploring the entire fishing destination. The surrounding area of Altmar is a small community known for its strong connection to the Salmon River and outdoor activities. The inn itself is not described as being in a bustling area, but rather a functional base for outdoor pursuits. The building's exterior and general appearance are consistent with a practical, purpose-built lodging rather than a luxury resort, aligning with its target audience's needs.

The services at the School House Inn are straightforward and customer-focused, particularly by the owners. Guests have described the owners as "cheerful," which contributes to a welcoming atmosphere. While the services are not extensive in terms of typical hotel amenities, they excel in providing what their primary clientele needs. A significant service highlight is that "the schoolhouse in does supply all of your Linens!" This is a crucial detail for guests, as it's noted that "a lot of places do not supply Linens" in the area, which can be an unexpected inconvenience for travelers. This attention to essential guest needs, like providing bedding and towels, demonstrates a thoughtful approach to hospitality within their niche. The owner, Rob, was specifically thanked for a "great stay," suggesting a personal and attentive approach to management.

The features of the School House Inn are functional and designed for a comfortable, no-frills stay. Rooms are explicitly stated as "not fancy which is perfect for me" by a satisfied angler. The emphasis is on providing the essentials: "a warm room, and maybe a place to tie some flies and a bed to sleep in!" This minimalist approach caters perfectly to guests whose primary focus is the outdoor activity. For example, Room Number 2, a "smaller room," was still suitable for two people and "worked out nicely."

Each room comes equipped with practical amenities that enhance convenience, such as a "small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker with coffee, sugar and powdered creamer." These features allow guests to store food and drinks, prepare simple meals, and enjoy hot beverages, reducing the need to frequently dine out. Cable TV is available, though Wi-Fi is described as "spotty," with the caveat that "that's okay you're not there for that!" This honest appraisal sets appropriate expectations, reinforcing the hotel's focus on its core offering. The beds are noted as "comfortable," ensuring a good night's sleep after a long day outdoors. Some rooms are designed as "3-bunk dormitory" style, indicating options for groups of travelers to share accommodations, which can be cost-effective. However, one reviewer noted a "slightly unpleasant smell of occupancy by groups of males, with aftertones of air freshener" in such a room, which might be a consideration for those sensitive to odors or fragrances.

From a promotional standpoint, the School House Inn's primary appeal is its direct and unparalleled access to the "world-class fishery" of the Salmon River. For anglers, its location alone makes it "a perfect spot to stay and fish." The affordability is a key draw, with a reported price of "$70," which is considered "fine for a few guys to share." While one reviewer noted that for a single traveler, the fee might be "more than I would expect," it's clear the inn is "clearly a fishing-primary lodging option" and caters to groups. The inclusion of linens, in-room microwave, fridge, and coffee maker are significant practical advantages that enhance the value for guests. The consistent positive feedback from its target audience, along with phrases like "Fish on!" and "Thanks Rob for a great stay!", indicate strong satisfaction among those who seek this type of accommodation. For anyone searching on "Hotels Near Of Me" specifically for a functional, clean, and ideally located base to experience the Salmon River in Altmar, the School House Inn offers a compelling and highly practical choice, focusing on the essentials that matter most to its dedicated clientele.

The room was clean enough, and the owners were cheerful and the bed comfortable. But the room was a 3-bunk dormitory, which had the slightly unpleasant smell of occupancy by groups of males, with aftertones of air freshener. (Unfortunately, I am hypersensitive to fragrances, and I left with a headache.) The one reading light in the crampef quarters had a blown bulb... lucky I had a flashlight with me. It's clearly a fishing-primary lodging option. For the price ($70), it might be fine for a few guys to share, but if you are a single traveler, the fee is more than i would expect for this kind of facility, and there is no single or seasonal discount. I guess the owners aren't set up for single travelers.

I have been fishing up there for years as staying here. It's changed owners last year but new owners are friends with old owners who were fishing friends of mine. They are all good people. The fishing guide they have Fibur is the best. Im the owner of God'z Rod'z and Reel'z and I recomend this lodge for your stay and Fibur for your fishing guide service. In 2015 I landed the largest steelhead in New York and the school house is where stayed!

I've stayed at the schoolhouse inn for 2 seasons. The rooms are nice and clean. There is a microwave, mini refrigerator and cable television in the rooms. Bunk beds if you want to room with friends. They give you your own personalized parking space. You can get WI-Fi at the house. From the Inn you can snowmobile, kayak or fish the Salmon. The owners, Phil and Renee, are some of the most hospitable and friendly people you will meet. They also run a guide service and take people on Salmon and other western NY tribs. I've seen some pics of their guided trips and trust me they are landing some hefty browns. I met one of the guides who works for Phil, Phinbar, and he makes some great flies. He also has an outgoing personality for guiding folks and ties excellent flies. If you are nice to him, he might sell you a box of his top patterns at a great price. Overall, you can't go wrong staying at the Schoolhouse Inn or hiring Phil and his crew to guide you on your fishing expedition.

Stayed here between July 5th-12th for a graduation party, was the best place to stay during the week since they lived 12 minutes away.
