You don't want to rent this cabin. It is not what the pictures show. And there is a mile long gravel drive UP the mountain and it's not in good shape. Need 4 wheel or all wheel drive in first gear to make it up and in the dark it's almost impossible to find. We were glad to find a resident who could give us directions. From the outside it looks private and cozy but be prepared to unstop toilets! The advertising says "newly remodeled" but every piece of furniture is well worn and in need of replacement along with most of the mattresses. Dining to seat 11? No. More like 8 if you squish around the table. The refrigerator door shelves are broken and unusable and it is located in a manner that prevents using one of the drawers on the bottom. The sprayer on the sink doesn't work. The dishes in the cabinets were sparse and DIRTY! Possibly because the inside of the dishwasher was filthy. We had to hand wash dishes upon arrival. The appliances are old and inexpensive. The advertising claims there is a Keurig and we were prepared to use that, but it was not there. More false advertising. As was the claim to have a full size washer and dryer. NOT when we were there! Also no firepit outside as described. But even if there was, there were only 4 seats available from the deck, and not 4 rocking chairs as advertised. The floors and the carpet are filthy dirty. The carpet is stained in multiple places in every room. My grandchildren are conditioned to remove their shoes when entering a home but when we saw their black socks after a few minutes walking around inside we required them to have shoes and socks on at all times. The cleaning crew may have vacuumed the middle of the rooms but there was no mopping done anywhere. And everywhere you look, on window sills, kitchen counter, in every room on the floor there are all kinds of dead bugs. The bathroom showers were dirty on the floor and the shower heads were covered with mold and lime build-up. The toilets are so close to the walls that your shoulders or rear end touch both walls. No room to spread your legs and take care of business. The sunken tub also had black mold in and around each jet. Hot tub didn't work until the 2nd day of complaining. Not much deck furniture (1 metal glider, 1 rocker, 1 painted wood chair for a cabin that claims to sleep 14!!) so we didn't spend our desired hours enjoying the view. And don't look down from the deck unless you want to see the garbage and clothing thrown below. Want to open your windows? Broken blinds and no screens on the windows means not letting in that fresh mountain air. We are definitely disappointed. We expected some wildlife but the cabin only provided one plastic garbage can without a lid and no protection of any kind that would prevent critters from getting in the trash and dragging it around. So we kept all our trash in the house until time to check out. This is NOT a jewel in any sense of the word.

This article aims to provide a clear and factual overview of "The Golden Jewel" cabin located in Pigeon Forge, TN, drawing directly from recent guest experiences to help you make an informed decision for your next trip. Our goal is to present a balanced, honest, and professional account, focusing on factual information derived from real customer reviews.

"The Golden Jewel" is a cabin rental located at 4152 Dellinger Hollow Rd, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863, USA. While the name might conjure images of luxury and sparkle, it's crucial to understand the reality reflected in recent guest feedback. A comprehensive review highlighted significant concerns: "You don't want to rent this cabin. It is not what the pictures show. And there is a mile long gravel drive UP the mountain and it's not in good shape. Need 4 wheel or all wheel drive in first gear to make it up and in the dark it's almost impossible to find. We were glad to find a resident who could give us directions." This same review continued to detail severe issues: "From the outside it looks private and cozy but be prepared to unstop toilets! The advertising says 'newly remodeled' but every piece of furniture is well worn and in need of replacement along with most of the mattresses. But even if there was, there were only 4 seats available from the deck, and not 4 rocking chairs as advertised."

Further concerns were raised regarding cleanliness: "The floors and the carpet are filthy dirty. No room to spread your legs and take care of business. The sunken tub also had black mold in and around each jet. Hot tub didn't work until the 2nd day of complaining." The outdoor spaces also received criticism: "Not much deck furniture (1 metal glider, 1 rocker, 1 painted wood chair for a cabin that claims to sleep 14!!) so we didn't spend our desired hours enjoying the view. And don't look down from the deck unless you want to see the garbage and clothing thrown below. Want to open your windows? Broken blinds and no screens on the windows means not letting in that fresh mountain air." The reviewer concluded, "We are definitely disappointed. So we kept all our trash in the house until time to check out. This is NOT a jewel in any sense of the word."

Another review emphatically stated: "This was the worse cabins I have ever stayed at. It’s December and the heat doesn’t work. The cabin is not in good shape, no games like they said. The internet wouldn’t connect. Everything about this cabin is a joke. Please DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL. AS A MATTER OF FACT, DO NOT STAY AT ANY OF THESE CABINS AFFILIATED WITH THIS ONE WHO EVER MANAGES THIS ONE. IS HORRIBLE! THIS WAS THE WORSE EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD AND I’VE BEEN COMING HERE FOR THE LAST SEVEN YEARS!!! IF I COYLD GIVE IT NO STARS I WOULD. IT DOESN’T DESERVE A STAT AT ALL!!"

Given these extensive and serious concerns, this article will focus on outlining the advertised features and services typically associated with such properties, alongside the critical feedback, to provide a comprehensive understanding for potential local renters.

Location and Accessibility

The Golden Jewel is located at 4152 Dellinger Hollow Rd, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863, USA. While this address places it in the general vicinity of Pigeon Forge's attractions, its specific accessibility has been highlighted as a significant concern by past guests.

According to a direct review, the cabin is accessed via "a mile long gravel drive UP the mountain and it's not in good shape." This suggests a challenging approach, particularly for standard vehicles. The reviewer explicitly stated the "need 4 wheel or all wheel drive in first gear to make it up," indicating that a conventional two-wheel drive vehicle may struggle, especially during adverse weather conditions or in the dark. The difficulty in locating the cabin at night ("in the dark it's almost impossible to find") further points to poor signage or remote positioning. This could be a major hurdle for Tennessee locals unfamiliar with the immediate area, as navigation might require local assistance, as one guest experienced. While other cabin listings in the general Pigeon Forge area often boast easy access, this particular property presents a notable exception in terms of road conditions and ease of finding.

Despite the challenging approach, the cabin's general location in Pigeon Forge means it is theoretically within a reasonable driving distance of the town's attractions. However, the time and effort required to navigate the difficult access road could significantly detract from the convenience of being near the Parkway or Dollywood. For those considering "The Golden Jewel," understanding that its accessibility is a critical factor requiring specific vehicle types and careful navigation, particularly at night, is paramount. This information directly contradicts the typical expectation of convenient access often associated with Pigeon Forge rentals.

Services Offered

Based on the provided reviews, the advertised services for The Golden Jewel appear to be significantly different from the actual services experienced by guests. It's crucial for potential renters to be aware of this discrepancy.

Advertised services, typical for a cabin of this type, would generally include:

  • Fully Equipped Kitchen: Advertised to include appliances for cooking and dining. However, reviews stated: "The refrigerator door shelves are broken and unusable... The sprayer on the sink doesn't work. The dishes in the cabinets were sparse and DIRTY! Possibly because the inside of the dishwasher was filthy. We had to hand wash dishes upon arrival. The appliances are old and inexpensive. The advertising claims there is a Keurig... but it was not there."
  • Spacious Living and Dining Areas: Advertised to "seat 11" for dining. Reviewers found: "No. More like 8 if you squish around the table."
  • Multiple Bedrooms and Bathrooms: While advertising 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and sleeping up to 12-14 people, reviews mentioned: "bedrooms weren't made for that size furniture. Only one side of beds really had access, wall-side had to turn sideways to get in and out." Bathrooms were described as having "dirty on the floor and the shower heads were covered with mold and lime build-up. The toilets are so close to the walls that your shoulders or rear end touch both walls. No room to spread your legs and take care of business. The sunken tub also had black mold in and around each jet."
  • Entertainment Options: Advertised to have "games" and a "Game Room," but reviews stated: "no games like they said." While "In The Smokies Cabins" website lists a "Pool Table" for Golden Jewel, the guest experience contradicts some aspects of entertainment.
  • Private Outdoor Hot Tub: Advertised as available. However, a review noted: "Hot tub didn't work until the 2nd day of complaining."
  • Laundry Facilities: Advertised as a "full size washer and dryer." Reviewers found: "NOT when we were there!"
  • Internet Access: Advertised as having "Wifi." A review stated: "The internet wouldn’t connect."
  • Heating/Cooling: Essential for comfort. A guest noted: "It’s December and the heat doesn’t work."
  • Outdoor Features: Advertised as having a "firepit outside" and "4 rocking chairs" on the deck. Reviewers found: "no firepit outside as described... only 4 seats available from the deck, and not 4 rocking chairs as advertised... And don't look down from the deck unless you want to see the garbage and clothing thrown below. Want to open your windows? Broken blinds and no screens on the windows means not letting in that fresh mountain air."
  • Waste Management: Reviewers noted "one plastic garbage can without a lid and no protection of any kind that would prevent critters from getting in the trash and dragging it around."

In summary, while the cabin's general description might list a range of amenities typically expected in a Pigeon Forge rental, the actual provision and condition of these services, as reported by multiple guests, appear to be severely lacking. This is critical information for any potential renter.

Features / Highlights

Based on the provided negative reviews, what might typically be considered "features" or "highlights" for a cabin rental are unfortunately overshadowed by significant issues at The Golden Jewel. However, it's important to present what the cabin aims to offer, and how those features were experienced.

  • Mountain Views: While not explicitly detailed as "spectacular" by the recent critical reviews (which focused more on the unkempt state of the deck area preventing enjoyment of any view), the location on a "Dellinger Hollow Rd" up a mountain suggests the potential for views. However, the presence of "garbage and clothing thrown below" the deck and "broken blinds and no screens on the windows" would significantly hinder any enjoyment of this feature.
  • Seclusion and Privacy: The "mile long gravel drive UP the mountain" suggests a private setting. A reviewer did mention that "From the outside it looks private and cozy," indicating a secluded feel. This could be a positive for those truly seeking to get away from it all, provided they can overcome the access challenges.
  • Capacity for Large Groups: Advertised to sleep up to 14 people with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. However, the functionality for large groups is severely compromised by issues like:
    • "Dining to seat 11? No. More like 8 if you squish around the table."
    • "Bedrooms weren't made for that size furniture. Only one side of beds really had access."
    • "Not much deck furniture (1 metal glider, 1 rocker, 1 painted wood chair for a cabin that claims to sleep 14!!)"
  • Game Room & Hot Tub: These are advertised amenities. However, reviews explicitly stated "no games like they said" and "Hot tub didn't work until the 2nd day of complaining." The presence of "black mold in and around each jet" in the sunken tub also raises serious concerns about the condition of the hot tub and other water features.
  • Fireplace: Public listings for "Golden Jewel" (e.g., via In The Smokies Cabins) sometimes mention a "Wood burning Fireplace." The reviews do not specifically address the functionality of this, but it is an advertised feature for some listings of "Golden Jewel" in the area.
  • Pet-Friendly: Some older listings for a cabin named "Golden Jewel" indicate it is pet-friendly. However, the review mentioning "one plastic garbage can without a lid and no protection of any kind that would prevent critters from getting in the trash" suggests that even this aspect of accommodating guests with pets might be problematic or poorly managed.

Essentially, the intended highlights of The Golden Jewel – its capacity, entertainment, and views – appear to be undermined by severe maintenance, cleanliness, and accuracy issues as reported by recent guests. This indicates that what is advertised as a feature may not be a functional or pleasant reality.

Promotions or Special Offers

Given the overwhelming negative feedback regarding the condition and management of "The Golden Jewel," it is highly unlikely that any promotions or special offers would adequately compensate for the reported issues. However, if such a property were to offer discounts, they would typically follow standard cabin rental industry practices, which include:

  • Seasonal Discounts: Lower rates might be offered during off-peak seasons (e.g., late winter or early spring). However, even a reduced price may not justify the described state of the cabin.
  • Mid-Week Specials: Weekday bookings are often cheaper than weekend stays. Again, this discount would need to be weighed against the significant issues mentioned in reviews.
  • Extended Stay Discounts: Offers for booking multiple nights (e.g., a week-long stay) often come with a per-night reduction. For a cabin with so many reported problems, a longer stay could exacerbate guest dissatisfaction.
  • Last-Minute Deals: If the cabin has unbooked dates approaching, a discounted rate might be offered to secure a reservation. This could be a way to fill vacancies but would be a gamble for potential renters.

It is imperative for any Tennessee local considering "The Golden Jewel" to prioritize verifying the current condition of the property and its amenities, rather than focusing on potential discounts. The severe issues reported by multiple guests, including non-functional heating, broken appliances, unsanitary conditions, and inaccurate advertising, suggest that even a significant price reduction would not likely lead to a satisfactory vacation experience. As one reviewer vehemently stated, "Please DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL."

Therefore, while promotions might exist on listing sites, potential guests are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and consider these extensive warnings above any perceived financial savings.

Contact Information

The Golden Jewel is located at:

  • Address: 4152 Dellinger Hollow Rd, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863, USA

Based on public information, this cabin has been listed by various property management companies over time, including "In The Smokies Cabins." As there is no specific phone number provided directly for "The Golden Jewel" in the given information, interested parties would typically need to contact the property management company that currently lists or manages the cabin. If searching for this property online, look for the contact details provided on the rental listing itself.

Given the highly critical reviews, any potential renter from Tennessee or elsewhere is strongly advised to engage in thorough and direct communication with the current property management before making any booking decisions. This would involve:

  • Explicitly asking about the specific issues raised in recent reviews (e.g., gravel road condition, vehicle requirements, cleanliness, functionality of appliances, hot tub, heating, and accuracy of advertised amenities like the Keurig, washer/dryer, games, and outdoor furniture).
  • Requesting assurances or evidence of recent renovations or repairs if "newly remodeled" is still advertised.
  • Inquiring about their policy for addressing guest complaints upon arrival, especially given the severity of issues reported by previous visitors.
Without such direct and detailed communication to verify the current state of the cabin, booking "The Golden Jewel" carries significant risk based on the extensive negative experiences of prior guests.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

Based on the overwhelming and consistent negative feedback from multiple guests, "The Golden Jewel" at 4152 Dellinger Hollow Rd, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863, USA, appears to be unsuitable for locals and any visitors seeking a comfortable, clean, or accurately advertised cabin experience. The extensive issues reported by prior guests paint a clear picture that directly contradicts the expectations one would have for a pleasant vacation rental in the Smoky Mountains.

While the concept of a cabin in Pigeon Forge is appealing for Tennessee residents seeking a local escape, the reality of "The Golden Jewel" as described by those who have stayed there presents significant deterrents. The "mile long gravel drive UP the mountain" that requires "4 wheel or all wheel drive" is a major accessibility barrier, making it difficult to reach, especially in the dark. This alone could ruin the start of a vacation for many. For locals who might typically seek a convenient, easy-to-access getaway, this challenging approach is a substantial drawback.

Furthermore, the litany of cleanliness and maintenance problems, including "filthy" floors and carpets, "dirty" bathrooms with mold, broken furniture, non-functional appliances (refrigerator shelves, sink sprayer, dishwasher), missing amenities (Keurig, full-size washer/dryer, firepit, adequate deck seating, games), and non-working utilities (heat, internet, hot tub), indicates a severe lack of property care and accuracy in advertising. The explicit warnings like "Please DO NOT STAY HERE AT ALL" and "This is NOT a jewel in any sense of the word" from experienced travelers to the area should be taken as serious advice. For Tennessee residents who value their hard-earned vacation time and money, choosing a property with such documented and widespread issues would likely lead to extreme disappointment and frustration, rather than the relaxing escape they anticipate. The concerns about proper waste management also pose a practical issue that detracts from the stay.

In conclusion, while the idea of a cabin in Pigeon Forge is inherently suitable for Tennessee locals, "The Golden Jewel" as described by its former occupants, unfortunately, does not meet the basic standards of comfort, functionality, or honesty in advertising that any traveler, especially a local seeking a reliable retreat, would expect. It is paramount that potential renters heed the strong warnings from previous guests.
