The location of the lodge was convenient for hiking as my husband and I were participating in the Finger Lakes Trail County hike series that was departing from the Swain Resort parking lot. The room was quiet but showing some wear and tear. The biggest issue was the sulfur smell in the water, which made it unpalatable. We had no prior notification of that issue, but it was identified in the information notebook in the room with the suggestion that we purchase water. The two complimentary 16-ounce bottles in the refrigerator were not enough for our hiking needs. After dinner we had to make a trip to a grocery store to purchase several gallons of water needed for the next day's hike. The lodge should include information about the water quality on its website (or in the confirmation e-mail) so that guests are aware of the issue before arrival. After a long travel day, the last thing we felt like doing was driving into town to a grocery store.

The Mountainside Inn & Condos at Swain Introduce

For local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" with direct access to outdoor recreation, The Mountainside Inn & Condos at Swain in Swain, NY, presents a compelling option. Located at 2275 Co Rd 24, Swain, NY 14884, USA, this property is an integral part of the Swain Resort, making it a primary choice for skiers, snowboarders, and hikers looking to maximize their time on the slopes or trails.

Environment: Slopeside Serenity and Trail Proximity

The Mountainside Inn & Condos boasts an exceptional environment, situated directly at the base of Swain Resort. This "super close to Swain" location is a major advantage for guests, offering genuine ski-in/ski-out or extremely short walk access to the chairlifts. For winter sports enthusiasts, this means more time on the snow and less time commuting. The overall ambiance is that of a mountain lodge, focused on providing a comfortable and convenient base for outdoor activities.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, the Inn's location is also highly convenient for hikers. As one customer review notes, "The location of the lodge was convenient for hiking as my husband and I were participating in the Finger Lakes Trail County hike series that was departing from the Swain Resort parking lot." This highlights its strategic position for accessing the renowned Finger Lakes Trail, which runs alongside the resort. The area is characterized by rolling hills, state forests, and a peaceful, rural setting, offering beautiful views and a tranquil escape from urban life. It is minutes away from attractions like The Falls at Letchworth State Park (the "Grand Canyon of the East"), Stony Brook State Park, and various golf courses, providing year-round recreational opportunities, including fall foliage viewing and summer activities.

Services: Essential Comforts for Active Travelers

The Mountainside Inn & Condos offers a range of services tailored to its active clientele. Accommodations include both traditional inn rooms/suites and more spacious condominiums, providing flexibility for different group sizes and needs. All properties generally come with Wi-Fi and television, ensuring guests can stay connected and entertained. Some inn rooms and suites feature homey amenities, including kitchenettes and on-site laundry facilities, while the condos provide even more comfort with full kitchens and living rooms, ample space for larger parties, and sometimes even in-unit laundry.

Guest reviews offer insight into the practicalities. While one reviewer mentioned the room was "showing some wear and tear," another described their rented condo as "a little dated but reflected in the price and super clean." This suggests a focus on cleanliness and functionality, with a recognition that the decor might be older but well-maintained. A key point raised in a review is the "sulfur smell in the water," which made it "unpalatable." The hotel's information notebook identified this issue and suggested purchasing water, though this information was not provided prior to arrival. Guests should be prepared for this and consider bringing their own drinking water, especially for longer stays or strenuous activities like hiking. The two complimentary 16-ounce bottles mentioned by the reviewer were clearly insufficient for hiking needs.

For dining, there isn't a dedicated restaurant within the Inn itself, but the Swain Resort complex typically includes on-site food and beverage options, such as a bar & grill and a cafeteria, especially during the ski season. The Sierra Inn, a local restaurant in town, is also mentioned as a nearby dining option. Parking is free for guests. The Inn has a 24-hour front desk available by calling (607) 545-6511 or +1 607-545-6511, which serves as the primary contact for inquiries and assistance. Check-in is typically at 3 PM and check-out at 11 AM.

Promotional Information: Ski & Stay Packages and Group Discounts

As a key part of Swain Resort, The Mountainside Inn & Condos frequently offers promotions that are tied to the resort's activities, especially during the ski season. While specific deals can vary, common promotions include:

  • Ski & Stay Packages: These bundles combine lodging with lift tickets, often providing a more cost-effective option than booking separately. Details should be sought directly from Swain Resort's official website (swain.com) or by contacting them by phone.
  • Group Discounts: Swain Resort offers substantial discounts on lift tickets, lessons, rentals, and lodging for groups of 15 or more skiers. Reservations must be made in advance, and a single payment is required to receive group pricing. Additionally, groups often earn complimentary lift tickets based on the size of their party (e.g., one free lift ticket per 15 people). School clubs and college groups are also specifically welcomed with discounts.
  • Seasonal Specials: Throughout the year, especially during the winter, the resort may announce weekly ticket specials or lodging deals. Examples from past promotions include special rates for Restaurant/Hospital Employees, Teachers, and College Nights. It's advisable to check their website or social media for the most current offers.
  • Season Pass Holder Benefits: Those who purchase a Swain Resort season pass may receive additional benefits, such as discounts on dining and retail, a 15% lodging discount, discounted lift tickets for friends, and free or discounted lesson packages.

For those interested, it's best to contact Swain Resort directly at (607) 545-6511 to inquire about current promotions, availability, and specific pricing, as online booking platforms may not always reflect all available packages. The customer reviews indicate that while the property might be "a little dated," the price often reflects this, making it a good value for money for those seeking a practical, comfortable base directly connected to outdoor activities. The "super clean" aspect, despite being dated, is a positive note from a recent guest.

In conclusion, The Mountainside Inn & Condos at Swain offers a functional, well-located, and family-friendly option for travelers seeking to experience the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of Western New York. Its diverse lodging options, direct access to skiing and hiking, and commitment to providing essential comforts make it a strong contender for local users looking for "Hotels Near Of Me" that cater to an active, nature-loving lifestyle, provided they are aware of and prepared for the water quality issue.

Great close by stay for days and night of skiing! This is the second time we rented condos for a mini vacation. My son and his friends ski and I get to relax. Super close to Swain, plenty of room and everything you need. A little dated but reflected in the price and super clean. It's a must, if staying to ski.

This was the perfect getaway with my older kids to Swain. We enjoyed our visit. Condo was cozy, clean and comfortable. Perfect for the price. Will come back! We did bring wood for the fire, but it was off limits that's my only small complaint.

The room was small with a shared bath. Cute doors on the bath. Bath was newly remodeled. Outdoor stairs to get up to the room. Good parking. Great view of skiers from the rooming house. Nice coffee and coffeepot. Very clean. Happy with the temperature. Quiet. Good info on what to do. Walk over to the ski lodge, restaurant, and bar across the street. Good service.

We drove 9 hours and came for the Glaciers 3 day kids camp for my "first timer" 7 year old. Not only did he learn to ski in a day, the rest of my family enjoyed great skiing, atmosphere and left saying "we will be back!. Bree and the rest of the staff get a two thumbs up!
