I had an extremely disappointing experience at the Hotel Pratt. The booking process was shady and frustrating; I never received confirmation of the rate despite several promises from the owner, CJ. All calls go directly to his mobile phone, and he is always too busy to call back or send any written correspondence. To date, I have not received any written statement detailing the charges—only a significantly higher amount charged on my credit card statement than I anticipated. The hotel is misleadingly advertised as it is not a hotel but an old apartment building set behind the original structure that used to be the hotel. My room had bugs, the walls were paper-thin, slow wifi, and the water was undrinkable. And don't park under any of the trees in the parking lot as the sap drips off leaving a nasty film on your car. There are far better options in Cooperstown, and I feel completely scammed by CJ. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
For individuals searching within the "Hotels Near Me" category in Cooperstown, NY, The New Hotel Pratt, located at 50 Pioneer St, Cooperstown, NY 13326, USA, is an establishment that warrants careful consideration based on publicly available customer feedback. While its address places it within Cooperstown, suggesting potential proximity to local attractions, the overwhelming sentiment from recent reviews raises significant concerns about its operations and offerings. Therefore, prospective guests should approach this option with a high degree of caution, particularly when evaluating it against other available accommodations in the area.
The environment of The New Hotel Pratt is described in highly critical terms by guests, painting a picture that deviates significantly from typical hotel standards. One reviewer states that the establishment is "misleadingly advertised as it is not a hotel but an old apartment building set behind the original structure that used to be the hotel." This immediately impacts expectations regarding the type of accommodation. Within the rooms, fundamental issues are highlighted, including the presence of "bugs," which is a severe concern for hygiene and comfort. The structural integrity or soundproofing of the building is questioned with remarks about "paper-thin walls," suggesting a lack of privacy and potential for noise disturbance from adjacent rooms. Furthermore, a highly alarming environmental concern is the claim that "the water was undrinkable," which points to a significant issue with a basic necessity. Even the parking environment is problematic, with a warning not to "park under any of the trees in the parking lot as the sap drips off leaving a nasty film on your car." Collectively, these descriptions portray an environment that is not only unpleasant but potentially detrimental to guest well-being and property, standing in stark contrast to the expected cleanliness and comfort of hotels found in a "Hotels Near Me" search.
The services at The New Hotel Pratt are depicted as being profoundly deficient and, in some cases, unethical, based on customer reviews. The booking process is described as "shady and frustrating," with explicit allegations of a lack of confirmation regarding rates despite "several promises from the owner, CJ." This lack of transparency around pricing, culminating in a "significantly higher amount charged on my credit card statement than I anticipated," is a severe service failure. Communication is another major point of contention; "All calls go directly to his mobile phone, and he is always too busy to call back or send any written correspondence." The absence of written statements detailing charges is also a significant concern, contributing to a feeling of being "scammed." Beyond booking, the most serious service issue revolves around refunds. One reviewer recounts a situation from 2020 where a $500 deposit for a cancelled tournament (due to COVID-19) was never returned, despite "several emails and calls and promises to 'look into it'" over a period of four years. This alleged refusal to refund deposits for cancelled events, even after several years, highlights a profound lack of accountability and professional service. The cumulative effect of these service failures suggests a management approach that is unresponsive, non-transparent, and potentially exploitative, which is a critical consideration for anyone evaluating "Hotels Near Me" options.
The features of The New Hotel Pratt, as described by customers, appear to be either misrepresented or severely lacking in quality. The primary feature, advertised as a "hotel," is contradicted by claims that it is an "old apartment building." This immediately impacts expectations of amenities and structure typically associated with a hotel. In-room features are problematic: the presence of "bugs" indicates poor pest control, and "paper-thin walls" point to inadequate sound insulation. Connectivity, a basic modern necessity, is hampered by "slow wifi." The fundamental feature of potable water is called into question with the assertion that "the water was undrinkable." Even the parking lot, a practical feature, comes with an unexpected issue of "sap drips." These descriptions suggest that even basic, expected features are either substandard or problematic. There is no mention of traditional hotel amenities such as a lobby (beyond the note about the old structure), breakfast, fitness facilities, or common areas. The absence of positive commentary on any specific feature further emphasizes the predominantly negative guest experiences. This lack of reliable and quality features would be a significant drawback for any traveler, particularly those using "Hotels Near Me" to find a comfortable and well-equipped place to stay.
From a promotional standpoint, any objective introduction to The New Hotel Pratt must heavily incorporate the overwhelming negative feedback from recent customers. The direct recommendations to "not recommend this place to anyone" and the sentiment of feeling "completely scammed by CJ" are potent anti-promotional messages. The specific details about booking issues, lack of communication, unfulfilled refund promises, and the poor condition of the property (bugs, thin walls, undrinkable water) serve as direct warnings to potential guests. The public complaint about the unrefunded $500 deposit from 2020, even as of 2024, is a highly damaging piece of information that speaks to long-term unresolved issues and a severe lack of business ethics. While hotels typically rely on positive features and services to attract guests, the information available for The New Hotel Pratt focuses almost exclusively on a highly disappointing and problematic experience. Therefore, for local users and travelers searching for "Hotels Near Me" in Cooperstown, the most objective and helpful promotional information is to advise extreme caution and thoroughly research alternative accommodations before considering The New Hotel Pratt, given the consistent and severe complaints regarding its environment, services, and features.

Jul 26, 2024 · Casey HussHated to post this, but its been enough time. So we booked back in 2020, sent in a $500.00 deposit. this was the year covid hit, and they cancelled the tournament. The Deposit was suppose to be refundable. Well after several emails and calles and promises to "look into it" its now 2024 and we never got our deposit back? I know covid year was tough, and may have been hard to businesses, i get that, but by now you should refund my deposit back!
Aug 09, 2024 · Richard TempleVery nice owners. They worked hard to accommodate our handicap requests. This small hotel is located in the heart of Cooperstown Village and within walking distance of the Baseball HOF, the #1 reason we were there. We booked the room thru Vrbo. The Vrbo app stated that "Pratt" had decks, lake, mountain views, and kitchenettes in the room. We thought what a wonderful place to spend vacation! We arrived at the hotel to find out none of the listed anemities were there! Shame on Vrbo for the fake information. Shame on the New Hotel Pratt for falsely allowing these claims on their property. We overpaid. Most of the village was closed and scheduled to open on or around May 1st. This wasn't mentioned on any of the numerous phone calls as I gushed with my excitement of being in the heart of Cooperstown for a couple of days. Enjoy the pictures of the view and the kichenette.
Apr 18, 2024 · Amy PowersHotel Pratt is very comfortable, clean, quiet and within walking distance of Cooperstown attractions . CJ, Angie, and Charley were very helpful and friendly. When we had to cut our stay short because of a tragic car accident resulting in the death of a family member, they couldn't have been more understanding. They even left a beautiful floral sympathy arrangement in our room. It's rare to find kindness like that when you are far from home. We highly recommend this hotel for your Cooperstown vacation.
Jul 23, 2018 · Kathy LapacekQuaint little hotel right downtown with off street free parking. Excellent cleaning staff and the owner was very friendly. Best deal money wise in the Cooperstown area. Would definitely stay there again. The only negative was the key had to be picked up at a tavern as there is no hotel lobby.
