I visit Christiansburg every couple of months as a getaway to prevent burnout. I’ve stayed at various hotels in the area. Tru by Hilton charged me a $250 security deposit in addition to an $80 incidentals deposit, regardless of the fact that my husband is a gold member. This is the first time I’ve ever been charged these deposits anywhere, including Holiday Inn. (There was zero explanation as to why they “charge locals” these deposits.) The rooms are clean but be prepared that there are no microwaves, coffee makers, or dressers. I didn’t care about the dressers because I pack lightly, but it’s something to consider. In any case, my room was clean and sufficient. The lobby is appealing and they have the local favorites listed near the elevators. I’ve stayed at Tru before at other locations and the breakfast options seemed a lot more generous. At the Christiansburg location, it was a bit disappointing and one day a little gross (fake eggs and sliced kielbasa). Barely a step above continental. Holiday Inn has better breakfast in my opinion. Lots of traffic noise as it’s off the highway and the view from the rooms are basically parking lots and highway. If you’re staying for business or as a one-night layover, it’s a decent place to stay. The overall vibe is nice and the lobby is designed in a modern and fun way. But, if you’re looking for rest and relaxation, you might want to consider a different hotel.

Stumbled upon Tru out of necessity on a trip, having never heard of it, we gave it a try. Apparently, we visited just after a storm, so demand was high, rate was not too elevated but fair. The first thing we noticed is wide open, bright, and friendly lobby is a refreshing change. Rooms were clean, especially appreciated the hard floors. Nice breakfast options. Note they are pet friendly for an additional $75.

I paid $250 The room and parking were decent, there wasn’t a laundry bag for dirty clothes and to flush the toilet, you had to take off the tank lid and manually flush. It was embarrassing. Morning comes and half of their breakfast items had “out of service” signs on it.. I was expecting better from the company.

WOW! So clean, and nicely decorated. I love the little touches of art, and the white noise playing in the hallways! A room with a king size bed is a little small; but very clean. Lots of parking and free breakfast! Breakfast was small but had your normal things like pancakes, toast, eggs, sausage and yogurt. Rooms are not too quiet. Can hear everything in hallway and above you. Overall was a nice stay and would stay here again if passing through.

For a low end hotel we were charged over two thousand dollars for a three night stay. This was our worst experience ever. We have been loyal Hilton customers for over twenty years but never again will we stay at another Hilton. We asked why we were charged so much and were told it was because it was the week Virginia Tech had their graduation. They care nothing about their customers only about the money they can get from you.
