My wife and I take a vacation about once every two years. We're fairly blue collar, and don't really expect for more than what we pay for. For the most part, we want to be left alone and destress. In 15 years, only one vacation has not been in the Gatlinburg area. We rent a different cabin each time, mainly because we don't ever keep the information about the previous rental. This year was Bear Ridge, at 2249 Beach Front in Sevierville, TN. We decided this was the place for location, the fireplace, and the arcade machine located in a game room that includes a pool table and fold out couch. We don't really enjoy the attractions in the surrounding area beyond hiking, and enjoying nature. We do however enjoy a good cabin, a nice, cozy fireplace, and a competitive battle on an arcade machine. When we arrived at 2249 Beach Front, it was later than we wanted. Sometimes the roads going up to the cabins can be crazy. This was no exception, and it was already dark. We'd just driven 400 miles and were ready to crash. It is a charming cabin. It has one bedroom and two bathrooms. There is a fire place with plush furniture right in front of it. Upstairs is the gameroom with a pool table and the arcade machine, and another full bathroom. As we started unpacking, we noticed a sour oder in the bedroom. My wife immediately bends down to the bed and determines it is indeed, the bed. We pull back the blankets revealing sheets that have dirt in them, hair, and a sour odor like sweat that's been there for a minute. We strip the bed and put the sheets in the washer machine, then realizing there is no detergent. No big deal. There is another set of sheets in a hope chest at the foot of the bed, and we'll get detergent in the morning. We understand the owner and the rental agency are not responsible for providing detergent, but out of seven cabin rentals, this was the first that didn't have some. We begin to swap out the sheets only to find they are the wrong size for the bed. So now we have no sheets. So we call the rental agent, who refers us to the owner. The owner maintained the cleaner had changed the sheets, but would not come back out to exchange the sheets until morning. And we're back to square one with no sheets. Via email, the response we received from the rental management agent was documentation was required before any action would be taken. Keep in mind, dear reader, we're not asking for anything but clean sheets, and we're being told to "prove it". I don't exactly know how to do that via email not knowing if there's even a scratch and sniff option to email. We were given the option for someone to show up the next day to replace the sheets. This was fine... We'd make do for the night. By the way, after being gone the next day, and returning, nothing had changed. We were informed someone would come out tonight, but we've now purchased detergent and are washing sheets. As my wife is trying to obtain clean bedding via email, I go to the (really quite lovely) fireplace and turn it on... or at least turned the dial that should have ignited it. No joy there. So the question was raised... well perhaps we were doing something wrong. We were informed that the fireplace is only operational between Oct 31st and May 1st. "It is not time to use it." No where in the property description was this stated, or we would not have booked it in early October. So now she's getting the bad news, I'm going to get the arcade up and prepare for battle... except that isn't working either. We received no reply for that. So I'm editing the original post. A wonderful couple just showed up. We have fresh sheets, an arcade machine that works, and a working fireplace. Thank you so much for coming out and making it right.
