Hotel was decent. I was annoyed they put a $50 hold on my card per day. They said it was an error, but it’s on there and I was told it would be held for 7 business days. Also, I stayed two separate times during this week, rooms were a different feel. Possibly pending renovations. Second visit the room smelled of smoke. Found out at bed time it was the pillows. Too late and too lazy to move rooms, just dealt with it. Decent breakfast.

Customer Feedback and Considerations:

While City Express by Marriott Duluth aims to provide a comfortable stay, it's important for potential guests to be aware of certain aspects based on previous customer reviews. Some guests have reported a $50 hold per day on their credit cards, which can be held for several business days, leading to frustration. There have been instances where rooms smelled of smoke, and some found pillows to be the source. Issues with check-in processes, including system incompatibilities for Bonvoy members and room key malfunctions, have been reported, sometimes leading to lengthy delays and even assignment to occupied rooms. Cleanliness in bathrooms has also been a point of concern for some. The breakfast, while complimentary, has received mixed reviews regarding its variety. The seasonal outdoor pool has also been described as "green" by at least one reviewer, indicating potential maintenance issues. However, many guests have also praised the hotel's cleanliness, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and its convenient location, particularly for events at Gas South Arena. The staff has been noted as helpful and friendly by several guests. Given the range of experiences, it appears the hotel may be undergoing improvements or experiencing inconsistencies. Shouldn't be called a Marriott when they dont honor Bonvoy policies for members. Had to call Bonvoy to be able to check-in bec systems not compatible. After 45min, my room key wouldn't open the room. Had to return and they gave me a new room # which was already OCCUPIED. How horrific for both guests. Third time sent me to first room with different key but already over an hr bec they wouldn't believe me the room had someone. Front desk incompetent and no apologies later. Beds were comfortable but bathrooms were gross- reno $ not enough to make it to showers- and breakfast was a disgrace. No juice, no bagels, no waffles or pancakes, no eggs, and no fruit. Just avoid. Pool was green so that was a bust as well. Not even close to Marriott standards

Not worth it. The breakfast is abysmal. As others have said lipstick on a pig. The plus is new linens and mattresses and clean rooms. The only other plus is the housekeeping staff and front desk night clerk were trying to be as helpful as possible. And despite the extremely limited breakfast offerings you won’t starve. If you have to stay here there is a Waffle House next door. The bad: The bathrooms are still old best western style. There are broken tiles on the floors near the elevators that haven’t been repaired. The WiFi doesn’t work and no one could figure out the issue while we stayed for 4 days. The ac/heaters in the rooms are dated and loud. No coffee or tea in rooms. Unwrapped plastic cups are the only thing you get. Had I known of the quality of this property I would have paid $10 a night more to be at a MUCH nicer Marriott property just down the road.

Stopped for the night since it was listed as a Marriott property. The first appearance was that it looked a bit dated for a Marriott. The front desk clerk was very nice and friendly. When we went into our room, it looked recently updated. Sort of like saying that you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. Kind of how I felt. Found out later that this was previously a Best Western being converted to a Marriott. I went to the bathroom and I suddenly little bugs were crawling across the floor. I probably killed about 8 - 10 of them. I went to the front desk to get some bug spray, but they didn't have any. The clerk offered to switch our rooms, but my wife was already in the bed. After lying down for sleep, there was stomping above us. Sounded like kids running and jumping. Continued to try and sleep. Finally near 1 am, I went to the front desk, different clerk, and told him about the noise and he laughed. Then he said he would call them and if it wasn't better in 30 minutes, he would switch our rooms. I told him if it wasn't better that he could tell them to leave. Luckily, a few minutes later the noise stopped, but our sleep had already been disturbed too much. We had to be up early to continue our trip. I hope this hotel can make the needed improvements, but at this point, they're standards aren't up to the Marriott standards.

Stayed one night on our way back to NC from a road trip. Out of 13 hotels we have stayed at on this 3 1/2 week trip this was the worst. I will list pros and cons. Pros: Room and hallways were clean. Location was good for our purposes. Parking lot well lit. Lots of tv channels. Towels were thick and fluffy. The hvac unit was relatively quiet. Cons: The emergency exit stairwell closest to our room was closed for renovation. We were not told about this which created a potentially dangerous situation had there been a fire. When this was mentioned to the staff at check out, she did not seem to understand why this was an issue. The shower has nowhere to place your own shampoo, etc. We could hear the people in the rooms next to us and in the hallway past midnight. Room was small and crowded with a large desk chair that you couldn’t get past when someone was sitting in it because it left little space between the bed and desk. The breakfast was not up to Marriott standards. We would not stay here again when in Atlanta.
