The reason for the 4 stars is because I called when my wife and I were on the drive from Marietta to Athens for our daughter's volleyball tournament the woman who answered the phone, which after arriving was the same woman working the front desk was very rude and spoke down to me when I wanted to confirm the reservation I had made online. It turned out that she had two guest with the same last name and so when I was explaining to her that I had already paid for the booking online she just wouldn't except that I made and paid for my room through booking.com. but she wanted to go one telling me that I was crazy and that I made the reservation directly with them and hadn't paid yet. Even after giving her the booking number. 5 minutes later as she came to realize that she has two reservations with a guest who has very common last name. She gave a half hearted apology which I excepted and forgot about the entire thing. Until I arrived and was going to check in and when I walked in a overhead her speaking to another guest and she gave them the same treatment. As for the actual hotel, it was a nice place. Clean room. The bathroom you could tell only gets the typical surface clean that most hotel house keeping does which over time builds up till the grout has turned a different color from what it once was and you see mildew build up around some of the fixtures. Not sure why they don't have to do a deep clean once a week or something to ensure that doesnt happen. A world where " time is money". One day they will have to do it and that will be a job I wouldn't want.

Apr 03, 2025 · David MotesI wish I could rate this with No Stars because my experience was so bad! Toilet seat falling off, had to a screwdriver from the front desk to tighten, but the screws were all stripped out. TV’s did not work unless you stood next to them pushing buttons on the manually. Toilet and shower clogged to the point where I was standing in shin deep water. I had two rooms so my family and I could attend my Masters Graduation. The air was not working properly in the other room. Tried to check out at 4:00PM, after we discovered the shower issue and do the hotel manager is refusing to refund the rooms for the second night, even though we left. I should have known better when I checked in, seeing the random bed parts stacked by the front door that this was a bad idea. It’s under renovations and it looks more like a third-world country than a construction site. Horrible experience. And, Choice Hotels, who owns this dump, won’t do anything about it. The manager of the hotel won’t even take my calls, or return messages!! I’m so disgusted!! Don’t stay here ever!! It was an absolute nightmare!!
May 22, 2025 · Amacher Properties LLCUnfortunately, I cannot recommend the Country Inn and Suites in Athens, GA and would encourage anyone traveling to make other arrangements. The room was fair but we had a few problems including issues with the keys, a broken tv, broken phones, and no bedding for the pullout sofa where my son was supposed to sleep. All in all, these are minor inconveniences that shouldn’t happen but they are not the end of the world. What is not acceptable is the poor and confrontational customer service provided by the hotel staff person. First, my son went down to ask for bedding and was told they were out except for a single sheet and two pillows. After my son returned, I went to the front desk to request bedding and the person at the desk said he had already told my son they were out. When I verbalized my dissatisfaction, the customer service person became confrontational. When I saw I was getting nowhere, I started walking back to my room. As I walked back up the stairs to my room the hotel staff person continued to yell at me telling me to go to bed. I went back to the desk with my phone in my hand to video my conversation with the employee. I was calm and not raising my voice. The employee, on the other hand, became irate and told me to stop recording. I did so and placed my phone flat on the counter. I asked the employee if there was a manager I could speak to and was told there was not. I then asked the employee to provide his name, which he refused to do, and again he threatened to call the police. I again headed toward my room hearing the employee continue to yell at me as I walked away. I’ll be more careful about where I stay from now on and it won’t be here. Update: on 4/28/25, the manager of the hotel did reach out to us and we feel she handled our concerns appropriately.
Apr 28, 2025 · Jeff WrightWe were brought through Athens, GA for business. We chose the hotel based on the reviews compared to others in the area and it had a indoor pool for the children to swim in while I was working during the day. The first impression was, there must be a sewage leak somewhere because the common areas of the hotel smelled so bad...turns out after going through previous bad reviews this is a on going problem. The room we went in first had a stained sheet on the bed and a poop smeared hand print on the wall near the toilet. They were helpful at the desk and gave us a new room which I inspected before moving our stuff. The regular things that needed cleaning were clean but they didn't pay attention to walls or furniture. I quickly went around cleaning what I hope were coffee and food remnants off the walls before my wife inspected it. It was pretty late at this point and I didn't know what else to do. Final thoughts are...it's a really nice hotel but either management or the owners are preventing good management of the hotel. Maintenance was terrible everywhere you looked things were just rigged up. The carpet in the hotel was installed by amatures it wasn't stretched so it had loose humps everywhere. Also not all the elevator buttons worked so you couldn't go to the 3rd floor unless you held in the button (had to figure that one out) toilet paper holder was broke off and there were mildew stains around the tub. All these things could have been fixed but they aren't. The rooms did smell better than the common area of the hotel. THIS Hotel was for the money the second worst hotel I have stayed in not because of age or economic placement but because of bad Management possibly caused by the owners. There is no way I would allow a hotel I owned to be this way. This hotel was priced at $250 per night. I didn't take pictures of everything I saw. I'm disappointed such a nice hotel building that could be really nice is managed so poorly.
Mar 29, 2025 · Carl JayIf you are planning on coming to Athens, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. We are currently in this hotel staying the night as I write this and I am furious! First, the hotel keys to our room have not worked, and we have had to go to the front desk each time to have them reprogrammed just to get into the room. My son was planning to sleep in the pull out sofa only for us to find no bedding at all in any of the closets. My parents are staying on the floor above us, and they also did not have extra bedding for the pull out bed. We went to call the front desk only to find that neither phone in the room works. My son walked down to the front desk and asked for bedding, and he was given two pillows and one sheet for the pull out bed. The employee at the front desk said that was all they had because they had given it all out to other customers. My husband then went back down to the desk to ask for clarification and make sure my son had not misunderstood anything. Then stated that having no bedding is unacceptable as we were being charged $200 to stay the night. He was not rude or inappropriate in asking for the extra bedding. The employee became belligerent and started saying to my husband to “just go to bed” and that he’d already said there was no more bedding. The entire time my husband was walking through the lobby and up the stairs, the employee was yelling at him to “go to bed”. My husband walked back down a second time to ask for a manager, who was not here. Then asked for the employee’s name and took out his phone to record the employee’s name. The employee became irate and told my husband that if he would not put his phone away that he would call the police and that my husband could not be recording any part of this and just needed to go away. My husband complied and put his phone away. Even after my husband put his phone away, the employee continued to be rude and belligerent and refused to give his name. And again, as my husband walked away, the employee continued to call out to my husband to go to bed and not come back down. I called Choice Hotels and filed a complaint with the company since clearly the staff here do not care about customer satisfaction. We will be following up on our complaint with management no matter if it is local or regional. We have just discovered that we don’t have enough towels in the bathroom for everyone. Guess we’re just SOL because they probably don’t have enough of those to go around either and won’t be helping to find us any more before we need them.
