Although Elm Tree Inn is very run down, it is a crazy mix of crazy people which makes it a fun, dorm-like atmosphere. It is not for everyone but I have made some close friendships for life and enjoy the lifestyle. Bathrooms are too often dirty despite having two people who are supposed to clean. There is no toilet paper or paper towels supplied. You have to bring your own! Rooms are stark but many people who have lived at ETI have filled their room with furniture to suit their personal needs and style. All in all, I enjoy living at Elm Tree Inn.
The Elm Tree Inn, located at 98 W Broad St #92, Pawcatuck, CT 06379, USA, positions itself within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category as a distinctive lodging option in southeastern Connecticut. For inquiries or reservations, the inn can be contacted directly at (860) 599-0416 or +1 860-599-0416.
Geographically, the Elm Tree Inn is situated in Pawcatuck, a village within Stonington, Connecticut, and is very close to the Rhode Island border. This location offers relatively easy access to popular regional attractions. Downtown Mystic, known for its Seaport Museum, Aquarium, and Olde Mistick Village, is a short drive away. The scenic Stonington Borough, with its charming shops and restaurants, is also nearby. For those interested in gaming and entertainment, the major casinos of Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun Casino are accessible, typically within a 30-40 minute drive. The inn's placement allows for exploration of both coastal Connecticut and the border areas of Rhode Island.
The Elm Tree Inn offers a unique and somewhat unconventional lodging experience. It is described by some guests as being "very run down" and having a "dorm-like atmosphere," which, for a specific demographic, contributes to a "crazy mix of crazy people which makes it a fun" environment. This suggests it is not a traditional hotel experience, but rather one that fosters a sense of community among its residents, particularly those on longer stays.
The property appears to cater to a demographic that prioritizes extreme affordability and communal living over conventional hotel comforts and services. The rooms themselves are described as "stark," implying a minimalist approach to furnishings and decor. However, guests who have lived there for extended periods often personalize their spaces with their own furniture and belongings, creating a more individualized living situation.
Public areas, such as shared bathrooms, are noted to be "too often dirty" despite designated cleaning staff, and guests are expected to provide their own essentials like toilet paper and paper towels. This highlights a level of self-sufficiency expected from residents. The overall ambiance can be perceived as "low class" or having a "cheap motel vibe" by those accustomed to standard hotel amenities and maintenance. There have been reports of an indistinct, possibly "musty, damp smell" throughout the property. This suggests that the hotel's environment leans more towards a basic, no-frills, and somewhat communal boarding house model rather than a conventional tourist or business hotel.
Based on guest reviews and general knowledge of such establishments, the services and amenities at the Elm Tree Inn are minimal and primarily geared towards basic living rather than a full-service hotel experience:
The most defining features of the Elm Tree Inn are its highly unconventional atmosphere and its suitability for specific types of long-term residents.
It is important to acknowledge that the inn has received very critical feedback regarding its cleanliness, facilities, and general upkeep. Reviews explicitly mention "disgusting" conditions, including "drops of blood," "poop smear on the wall," and "hairs on the bathroom floor." Rooms are described as "small," "stark," and bathrooms "the size of a closet." The television service and overall comfort have also been negatively reviewed. This suggests that the hotel's features are primarily its low cost and the unique, self-sufficient living environment it offers, rather than traditional hotel comforts or high standards of service.
Given the nature of the Elm Tree Inn as described in the reviews, it is unlikely to engage in conventional promotional campaigns or offer typical hotel "special offers" such as loyalty programs, package deals, or seasonal discounts. Its primary "promotional" aspect is likely its low daily or weekly rates, catering to individuals seeking the most economical lodging available, possibly for extended stays or as a temporary housing solution. Information on official websites for such establishments is often limited, and bookings might be more direct or through niche platforms that cater to long-term or budget accommodations. Potential guests should directly contact the inn for current pricing and availability.
In conclusion, the Elm Tree Inn in Pawcatuck, CT, is not a typical hotel experience but rather a unique lodging option that caters to a specific niche of travelers, particularly those seeking extremely budget-friendly, long-term, and communal living arrangements. While its location offers access to popular attractions, guests should be prepared for a highly basic and self-sufficient environment, as well as potential challenges with cleanliness and amenities, as indicated by customer feedback. It is designed for individuals who value a community atmosphere and affordability above conventional hotel comforts and services.
