Their website is still accepting reservations and their IG has no announcement of their hotel room closure. We booked way in advance for Valentines day and the day prior to traveling they emailed us that they had to cancel the reservation due to construction. I've been here multiple times and astonished no one knows how to program their website or simply post on their IG that reservations are closed.... We were able to get our deposit back, but it's virtually impossible to get in contact with them about future reservations or a update for their reopen. I'd hold off on reserving anything unless you're able to get in contact... This is a truly beautiful property, I just wish they would be more transparent with their customers on socials.

Glen Falls House Introduce

For local users searching for "Hotels Near Me" or "Resorts Near Me" in the Round Top, NY area of the Catskill Mountains, Glen Falls House presents a complex picture. Located at 230 Winter Clove Rd, Round Top, NY 12473, USA, this property is consistently described by past guests as "a truly beautiful property" with a well-regarded restaurant. However, recent customer reviews highlight significant operational challenges, particularly regarding reservations, communication, and refunds, which potential guests should be aware of before considering a stay.

Environment and Location

Glen Falls House is situated in the scenic and tranquil Catskill Mountains, providing a beautiful natural environment that is a significant draw for visitors. The address on Winter Clove Road suggests a somewhat secluded location, offering a peaceful escape from urban noise and bustle. This setting is ideal for those seeking to immerse themselves in nature, enjoy outdoor activities, or simply unwind in a serene landscape. The historic nature of the property, which dates back to the 1880s and was once a family-run Catskills boarding house, adds to its unique charm and character, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of upstate New York hospitality. The natural beauty of the surroundings, including waterfalls and hiking trails, contributes to the overall appeal of the environment. Despite its inherent beauty, the current operational issues noted by recent guests mean that the environment, however appealing, is secondary to the practical concerns of booking and staying there.

Services and Amenities

Based on historical operations and positive past experiences, Glen Falls House typically offered services and amenities geared towards a comfortable and engaging resort stay. This included a well-regarded on-site restaurant, which past guests "loved." The focus of a resort in this scenic location would likely involve catering to both relaxation and outdoor pursuits. However, recent customer feedback indicates a severe breakdown in core services related to reservations and communication. Guests have reported that the website and social media might still show availability, but reservations are being "suddenly cancelled" with little to no notice, often on the day prior to arrival, due to "construction." Furthermore, there are significant issues with getting in contact with the hotel for updates on reopening or to process refunds, with guests stating it's "virtually impossible to get in contact with them" and experiencing delays or non-acknowledgement of refund requests. This suggests that, at present, the operational services are severely compromised, making it difficult for potential guests to rely on any advertised amenities or booking assurances.

Features of the Resort

When operational without issues, Glen Falls House was known for its charming and historically resonant features. As a former boarding house, it likely offered a variety of room types within its main building and potentially in additional structures, common for properties of its vintage. Reviews suggest it was a "beautiful property," implying well-maintained grounds and aesthetically pleasing interiors. The presence of a beloved restaurant is a significant feature, offering on-site dining convenience and quality cuisine that resonated positively with previous patrons. Historically, such Catskills resorts would feature common areas, lounges, and possibly outdoor spaces designed for guest enjoyment, reflecting a rustic yet inviting charm. However, the current feedback indicates that while the physical property remains beautiful, its core function as a bookable and reliable accommodation is severely impacted by ongoing issues. Guests are unable to confirm future reservations or receive updates on construction, which directly impacts the ability to utilize any of the property's features. The silence from the establishment regarding these operational changes and cancellations is a major concern highlighted by multiple reviewers.

Dining and Culinary Experience

Prior to its current operational challenges, the restaurant at Glen Falls House was a significant draw, earning praise from visitors who "loved the restaurant." This suggests a strong culinary offering that was a highlight of the guest experience. Resorts in the Catskills often focus on fresh, seasonal, and comforting cuisine, providing a memorable dining experience. The availability of an on-site dining option would have been a major convenience for guests staying at the resort, eliminating the need to travel for meals. However, with the reported closure of hotel rooms and the operational uncertainties, the current status of the restaurant is unclear. Potential guests should not assume that the restaurant is fully operational or accessible given the widespread reports of cancellations and communication issues related to the lodging aspect of the property.

Promotional Information and Value

Based on the recent customer reviews, any promotional information or value proposition for Glen Falls House must be approached with extreme caution. While the property itself is undeniably beautiful and holds a cherished place in the memories of past guests, its current operational status, marked by unannounced cancellations, lack of communication, and delayed/unprocessed refunds, severely impacts its ability to provide value. Guests have reported booking "way in advance" only to have reservations cancelled at the last minute, leading to significant disruption to their travel plans. The inability to contact the resort for updates or to process refunds is a critical issue that overshadows any inherent beauty or historical charm of the property. Therefore, for local users searching for "Hotels Near Me," it is strongly advised to "hold off on reserving anything unless you're able to get in contact" with Glen Falls House directly and receive clear, confirmed information regarding their operational status, available dates, and assurance of reliable booking and refund policies. The phone numbers provided, (518) 622-9363 and +1 518-622-9363, would be the primary points of contact for such verification. Without clear and transparent communication, the risk of a negative experience, including financial loss and disrupted travel plans, is substantial, despite the property's acknowledged beauty.

Loved the restaurant when I’ve been but I had booked a night for Valentine’s Day several weeks in advance. Morning of, they let me know the whole thing is suddenly cancelled..? Very confusing, and I can’t find anything about it online. Bad enough that they tanked our Valentine’s Day, but, hey, things happen. I assumed they had a good reason…but then they went silent and have yet to return my money or even acknowledge that any of this happened. I’m astonished, to say the least. My previous experiences were not like this, which is why the second star. I’m only posting this to get someone to freakin’ acknowledge me and give me my refund, already. Ridiculous.

Can’t help but feel a bit cheated after my stay here. My husband and I decided to book two nights here a week after our wedding as a small honeymoon and we were quite disappointed with our stay. Our bed was on a slant which made for a very uncomfortable sleep. We both awoke incredibly sore. The shower had barely any hot water. Our first morning there, we went down to the sun room - esque space that has a wood burning stove to read and relax, or so we thought. The hotel management was also using this space as a work area with no respect to their guests. Multiple of the staff were on the same zoom call which was playing out loud for all to hear. I was shocked at the disrespect and lack of awareness to their guests. After that frustrating experience, we decided to head to the sauna. and well, the sauna was another disappointment. The door to the sauna, which is located outside, does not fully close so all the hot air was immediately escaping. It didn’t seem to matter how much water we put on the hot coals, the heat was not staying in the sauna. While the front desk was very kind and helpful, I’m so offended by the management that chose to have meetings in areas that are meant to be a relaxing space for the guests. Again, the lack of awareness was shocking.

Our room was poorly lit and quite dull. Not cozy. The bed was abysmal. I could feel the springs and it really sagged under my normal weight. Service was adequate, but the restaurant was only open Thursday night - no breakfast. I was excited about the sauna but it was a joke. The door does not close and It does not get hot at all. Overall we made a good time of it, but for the price, I would not come back.

Beautiful location! Nice outdoors activities! Very cute bar/restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Very detailed inside and the outdoor area. I can’t wait to come back again! The staff were great and very friendly! Good for families!
