Very disappointed with our stay here. The price of all hotels continues to rise as the quality, cleanliness and service declines. We way overpaid for the quality of this hotel. We checked in late at night and the check in process was fine. However, the room was filthy (it smelled bad and the carpet was actually sticky) and the bathroom needed repairs. We just wanted to sleep so we just went to bed. There were very minimal towels/wash clothes. There was a pet toy left in the corner, and some food or something on the floor. We won’t be staying here again. Minimal parking also.

This direct access simplifies navigation and minimizes travel time off the highway.
Beyond being a transit point, the hotel's location also provides access to local attractions and essential services. While Max Meadows itself is a smaller community, the hotel is just a short drive from Wytheville, which offers additional dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The New River Trail State Park (8 miles) and parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway (25 miles) offer outdoor enthusiasts opportunities for hiking, biking, and scenic drives.
The hotel provides free self-parking on-site, including designated spaces for larger vehicles, which is a considerable convenience for travelers with RVs or those towing trailers. For residents of Virginia, particularly those in the southwestern part of the state or traversing our major interstates, the Hampton Inn Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows, while part of a well-regarded national brand, presents a nuanced picture of suitability based on recent guest experiences.
In an ideal scenario, for locals who are traveling for specific events in the Wytheville or Max Meadows area, such as attending a festival, visiting Fort Chiswell Animal Park, or exploring nearby outdoor attractions like the New River Trail State Park, the hotel's location directly off I-81 and I-77 is undeniably convenient. It offers easy access without extensive detours, which can be valuable for quick trips or planned excursions. The provision of free Wi-Fi and complimentary hot breakfast, typical of Hampton Inns, can also be a convenience for locals needing a brief respite from home life, perhaps during a short, localized business trip or a quick family getaway without the hassle of preparing meals. The pet-friendly policy is another benefit for local pet owners who wish to travel with their animals.
However, it is crucial for local users to acknowledge and consider the significant concerns raised in recent customer reviews before booking. Feedback indicates potential issues that could greatly impact a stay, such as "filthy" rooms with bad smells and sticky carpets, "dilapidated and in disrepair" conditions including broken lamps and scuffed walls, and the recurring problem of a "broken elevator for at least two weeks." The presence of "rodent traps in the stairwell" and "hair in the tub" are serious cleanliness and maintenance issues that were explicitly mentioned. The lack of available alternative rooms when issues arose and the reported "very very poor" service at the desk are also significant concerns. These issues could make a planned local getaway or a necessary stay highly uncomfortable and disappointing. One guest explicitly stated, "I would not recommend if you have babies or small kids."
Therefore, while the Hampton Inn Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows occupies a highly convenient location and theoretically offers desirable amenities under the Hampton Inn brand, recent customer experiences suggest that its current condition might fall short of typical Hampton Inn standards and general expectations for cleanliness and maintenance. For locals, this means that while it might be geographically suitable, a stay should be approached with caution, and direct communication with the hotel regarding current conditions prior to booking would be highly advisable, especially for sensitive travel plans or if comfort and cleanliness are top priorities. It seems this hotel is currently best suited for travelers who prioritize extreme convenience and affordability, and are prepared for potential trade-offs in quality and upkeep.

May 18, 2025 · Teresa GoreThe elevator has been broken for at least two weeks (because I stupidly stayed twice within a two week period of time and was told both times the repair person was “on the way”). You’re only informed upon check in, not before, and the only rooms available are 3rd floor or higher. You’ll find the rodent traps in the stairwell. The hotel is dilapidated and in disrepair. Two of three lamp shades were broken, the third lamp the base was broken. Only half of the lights work. The wardrobe is missing pieces, the walls are scuffed and dirty. There is hair in the tub. The tub is also chipped. Gross!
Mar 12, 2025 · Jennifer WallaceWe stayed here for quick stop/overnight. The guy who checked us in was slightly not friendly. Then we got on the elevator, then made me LOL with the elevator inside. LOL indeed. Our room’s bathroom was totally upgraded with fancy white and looking good. However the room itself needed a serious update. The outlet was so old that it did t hold my chargers. And there were no chargers attached to the side table/table lamps.
Apr 17, 2025 · Noriko MitchellThis was the absolute worst Hampton Inn we have ever stayed in. The night shift desk employee was wearing an old band t-shirt and looked like he was higher than a kite. The room was dirty, floor hadn’t been swept and the bathroom needed attention, there was actual poo on the wall! The bed was incredibly uncomfortable, hard and lumpy just like the pillows. The hot breakfast was okay, mostly cold. We were told the elevator has been broken for weeks. The best part was the convenience to the highway. We’ll be coming back through here often and will choose a different hotel in the future.
Mar 07, 2025 · Julie CarpenterWebsite advertised EV charger. That was missing. Got a room with a fridge that was not possible to close and the thermostat displayed error. Got to change the room with some resistance. Overpriced for what it is. Do not recommend as there are other hotels in the area. Manager never got back to me for the complain I made.
