My new bride Susie and I had our wedding and reception at Highland Lake Resort. We and our 100+ guests could not have been more pleased. Everything was done by smiling employees who made the day very special. Food was exceptional! I highly recommend the “Seasons Restaurant “ at Highland Lake Resort also. Fabulous food. Not cheap…but worth every penny!

May 23, 2025 · Robert SchultzWe held a 4-day family reunion at Highland Lake Inn. Even though I already knew it was a wonderful place (from attending their terrific Thanksgiving buffet there every year), they really exceeded our expectations! The property provides a lovely natural setting. The cottage and cabins we stayed in were rustic and a bit quirky (from being 100? years old), but great lodging anyway, and if you share a big cottage with multiple people, the per-person price is excellent (in April our 8-person cottage was only ~$40 a head). More modern lodging is also available. Season's restaurant has excellent fine-dining food and well-trained, professional waitstaff, and a yummy breakfast buffet comes free with most of the lodging options. HLI has *MANY* activities on-site for all ages, with a highlight being the activities on their big lake. (The only activities disappointment was that the pool wasn't yet open for the season.) There are also plenty of off-site activities not far away. ALL of the staff were very kind and accommodating, especially Don at the front desk, who worked with me for a year helping me put the reunion together; he went many extra miles for us! One thing that happened really impressed all of us. We wanted to have a fire in the community fire pit, so we went to the office hoping they'd have firewood for sale so we wouldn't have to go out to a store. Instead, Don told us to go back out and have fun and had a staff member bring us all the free firewood we wanted, AND she built and lit the fire for us, and checked on us later to make sure we were still happy with the fire! It's really hard for me to imagine someone being disappointed with the HLI experience, exept for people looking for a "city" kind of experience. If country/nature is your thing, this is your place! And city (Asheville) is pretty accessible, too, only 35-40 minutes away.
Apr 28, 2025 · Jeff EichingerJust home from a weekend trip with two friends to Flat Rock. The reason for our trip was tickets to see CATS at the Flat Rock Playhouse, and we decided to make a weekend of it and stay at the Highland Lake Inn. GREAT choice! One friend and I each had a room in the lodge. Rooms were extremely comfortable. Reminiscent of days gone by, yet there was no modern amenity lacking. And there was a great veranda on the upper floor on which we enjoyed our wine in the afternoon, before moving on to the Primrose Cottage, which our third travel partner had rented for the weekend so we'd have a 'home base'. His cottage was over the top perfect and would be GREAT for a romantic getaway! (Huge king bed, two-sided fireplace, very secluded, two-person jacuzzi tub, etc.). We all enjoyed the grounds and commended many times on how many small touches we stumbled upon that so encouraged you to RELAX. Hammocks strung between trees, canoes and kayaks on the peaceful lake, fire pit to gather around, well-maintained grounds that were bursting with spring color. I could go on and on. But I'll end by saying that the CLEANLINESS at the lodge totally surprised me. Resorts from this period can be 'musty' and very 'dusty' .... NOT this one! Kudos to the staff that keep it so clean. Oh -- also the included breakfast. REAL breakfast buffet .... frittata, real scrambled eggs, bacon, two kinds of sausage, hash browns that were from fresh potatoes, as well as fresh fruit, pancakes, sweet rolls ... and a server to come with refills in a delightful and upscale restaurant environment. d
Apr 28, 2025 · Marsha BrennesselThe quaint inn is a hidden gem in the North Carolina mountains. It has period decor in the lodge and multiple walking paths outside. This inn and outdoor activities are great for all ages but not for those with mobility issues. Steps, unlevel paths, and steep stairways abound. The Seasons restaurant serves a spectacular breakfast buffet included in your stay. My husband loved this!
Mar 20, 2025 · Luajean BryanMy husband and I stayed here for our anniversary weekend. The room was quaint and had everything we needed, the property was beautiful, and the breakfast buffet that was included was delicious. Unfortunately something out of the properties control happened on our last night there and we were without power for hours. After awhile we ended up leaving when there was still no power. The property manager or owner (I’m not sure which) was very kind, respectful, understanding, and more than made up for our unexpected departure. Overall even though our weekend was cut a bit short, it was a pleasant stay and we felt very calm and safe.
