I LOVED the character and charm of this old Victorian hotel. I was able to book my room the day before with Katy, who was delightful over the phone. She explained, in case I didn't know, that bathrooms and showers were shared. I've stayed in hostels and college dorms, so this is nothing new. Kirk greeted me when I arrived and gave me a tour with some history of the hotel. He was extremely kind and friendly and even welcomed my friend, who was staying at their "sister" hotel a few blocks away. Trudy, the hotel's hard working manager, was authentic, intelligent and kind. The wonderful staff made me feel at home and were happy to help with anything I needed. The bed in my room was extremely comfortable and I appreciated the sink. The room was very clean as were the bathroom and showers. Children are welcome at this hotel. There is a quiet time after 10:00 pm, which I appreciated. The location is perfect and on street parking was easy to find. I hope that once the renovation is complete, the Albatross Hotel will maintain its 19th century magic.

Based on what I was looking for this is exactly as depicted in listing. I had a great experience at this hotel based on my needs and recommend it to others. I'll list a few pros and cons below. 1. Staff are great and very accommodating, had no issues. 2. Location is perfect for easy walking to restaurants, beaches, events, and nightlife. 3. Price was reasonable for the area and pretty good in my opinion. 4. Location felt safe and didn't have any issues with guest or the town itself. Cons 1. Microwave was available but would have been nice to have in front area. 2. Staff work only during the day so anything in the evening may be an issue if you need anything. 3. The building is dated so you may hear things easily, and there is no elevator so if you have a disability it may be an issue. But I actually enjoyed the old time feel.

A quaint, cute, and comfortable weekend getaway at this authentic Victorian hotel. The standard rooms have communal bathrooms, but they are very clean and conveniently located. The mini breakfast bar is a nice treat, and the staff is great. The location is steps to the beach and a nice walk to good food and unique shopping. We fell in love with Ocean Grove and the Albatross and will be back!

We LOVED our stay at the Albatross Hotel! We recently stayed at Albatross Hotel because we needed a place to stay after catching a concert at Ashbury Park. Honestly, I was sad I could only stay for one night. Special shout out to the friendly and accommodating hotel staff. Trudy was especially welcoming and helpful! The hotel has beautiful, historical feel to it but is also extremely clean and tidy. The place really has character while also being really well maintained. The room had a comfortable, new bed with crisp linens and new blinds. While it was a shared bathroom, I was amazed at the strong water pressure in shower! The coffee and pastries in the morning were great and can be enjoyed while sitting on the beautiful porch/balcony with ocean views. You can't beat the location or price. Free street parking. Right near Ocean Grove boardwalk and 10 min walk away from Ashbury Park. I can't say enough good things. I will definitely be back to Albatross Hotel!

Built in 1881, the Albatross is located a block from the beach in beautiful Ocean Grove, NJ. New owners recently took over a historic property that suffered from decades of deferred maintenance. In just a few short months, substantial changes have been made. The wide first and second floor porches have comfortable new furniture (as well as sweeping views of the beach). The lobby renovation combines inviting modern comforts with old world elegance. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The new owners have taken great care to create a wonderful guest experience. All of the rooms have new mattresses and pillows, comfortable white bed linens, delightfully soft towels and new window blinds. While many of the rooms have a shared communal bathroom or private half bath, I stayed in a deluxe queen room with private bath. The room was clean and very comfortable, had a window air conditioner and quiet Hunter ceiling fan. While the shower in my room was small, it was spotless, had brand new double shower heads and great water pressure. Coffee, tea and pastries are served at the breakfast bar every morning. But let's be clear - the carpet, the walls, the doors, the windows, the plumbing and electric are old. More upgrades are in store. This type of charming old property is not for everyone. But if you are looking to stay in a fabulous location at a reasonable price, the Albatross is definitely worth checking out.
