The room was very clean. The bathroom was very small and the tub was slippery. I almost fell twice. There was no rubber mat. There was no shampoo or lotion. There was a note to let the front desk know if any was needed, but the front desk closed at 8 before I took my shower. No one warned us the front desk closed at 8. Also, when we came back from dinner, after the front desk closed, my husband's room key didn't work. Thankfully, I had mine and we were able to get into the room. I think for the $100 we paid it was not a great value. There was no breakfast. Two plusses; the restaurant across the parking lot was excellent and we could see the setting by the river is picturesque, although we did not have a river view room
For those in Illinois seeking a quiet getaway or a convenient place to stay while exploring the natural beauty of the state, the Paddle Wheel Inn in Oregon offers a unique option. This family-owned hotel, established in 1996, provides a quaint and peaceful atmosphere on the banks of the Rock River. It’s an unpretentious and straightforward lodging choice that focuses on providing a clean, comfortable, and scenic base for your adventures. Unlike large chain hotels, the Paddle Wheel Inn offers a more personal, local experience. It's a place that has been serving the Oregon area for decades, and its charm lies in its simplicity and beautiful setting. While some guests have noted areas for improvement, many appreciate its clean rooms and comfortable beds, making it a viable option for travelers who prioritize a tranquil location and a cozy place to rest after a day of exploring.
The hotel's location is undoubtedly one of its most appealing features. Situated at 1457 IL-2 N, Oregon, IL 61061, USA, the Paddle Wheel Inn is nestled on the scenic Rock River. This setting is particularly picturesque, with one guest noting the "setting by the river is picturesque." While not all rooms have a river view, the option for a balcony with panoramic views is a significant highlight for many guests. The hotel is conveniently located just minutes from some of the region's most beloved state parks, including Lowden State Park, which is home to the iconic Black Hawk Statue, and Castle Rock State Park. This makes it an ideal hub for hikers, kayakers, and nature enthusiasts. The hotel's location also places it directly across from a restaurant in the same parking lot, which one reviewer praised as "excellent." This proximity to dining and outdoor activities is a major plus. Accessibility to major roadways like IL-2 makes it easy for travelers coming from nearby cities like Rockford or even farther afield in Illinois, ensuring a smooth journey to your destination.
The Paddle Wheel Inn offers a mix of services and amenities that cater to a straightforward and comfortable stay. All rooms come equipped with a refrigerator and a microwave, a useful feature for guests who want to store snacks or heat up leftovers. The hotel also provides complimentary Wi-Fi and cable with over 80 channels, which helps guests stay connected and entertained. Additionally, the hotel has a fitness center and a sauna for guests to use. However, some guest reviews highlight a few areas where the service could be more consistent. For example, one guest noted that there was no shampoo or lotion provided in the room and that the front desk closed at 8 PM without prior warning. Another guest mentioned that there was no breakfast available, which contradicts some older information that mentions a continental breakfast. These details are important for potential guests to be aware of, as they can affect the overall value and convenience of a stay. The hotel does, however, provide a coffee maker in every room and offers complimentary coffee, a small but appreciated amenity.

Jul 17, 2025 · Dee DanielEverything was super easy and our room was absolutely beautiful. The location has beautiful scenery, a couple of steakhouses, and a bar and grill right next door. Our room had a huge whirlpool tub, the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel room. Many of the rooms have riverview porches, ours did and I loved it. The staff has left cute little notes around the place to let you know how to be considerate of everyone. I thought that was sweet and personal.
Jul 17, 2023 · Sydney JetterWe had rooms booked for a trip Saturday and Sunday night and then Thursday night later that week. Had confirmation codes for our reservation but apparently they failed to recognize that on the Thursday night booking. They booked out room out to somebody else. Called back the next day and was told manager will call us back and still haven’t heard anything not very impressed. Would recommend elsewhere
