Bed buggggssss We woke up at 1am with the beds covered in bed bugs. My 1 year old in the room. Called the 24 hour emergency line the gentleman was unhelpful. Told me I couldn’t get a refund that they would put me in another room or I could wait until 11am the following day for a refund. We had to call the police to come and it was only because of the really nice front desk girl Erica who felt bad that my one year old is in a bug infested (commercial) trap house that we got our $900 back Would not recommend. This happened on 12/30/24 if you’re there for new years in room 1c that’s where we were

For local users searching within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, Ships Inn, located at 15 A Street, Hampton, NH 03842, presents itself as a conveniently situated lodging option close to the vibrant attractions of Hampton Beach. You can reach Ships Inn at (603) 929-5999 or +1 603-929-5999. It's important to note that online reviews for Ships Inn are highly polarized, with some guests reporting excellent experiences and others detailing severe issues. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available information, allowing potential guests to make an informed decision.

Environment: Steps from Hampton Beach

Ships Inn boasts a prime location, situated just a short walk, reportedly as close as 100 yards, from Hampton Beach Main Beach. This proximity is a major draw for visitors looking to enjoy the sun, sand, and ocean. The hotel is also conveniently located within walking distance of popular Hampton Beach attractions such as the Casino Ballroom, Casino Cascade Water Slide, and Ocean Gaming Casino. The environment around the hotel is characterized by the lively atmosphere of a popular beach town, with various shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues nearby. The property itself features a seasonal outdoor pool, a terrace, and barbecue facilities, providing options for relaxation and outdoor enjoyment. There's also a garden and a picnic area, contributing to a more relaxed outdoor setting. Some rooms even offer pool views, enhancing the vacation feel. While the external appearance and overall condition of the property can be variable, as suggested by mixed reviews regarding upkeep and construction, its strategic location near the beach remains a consistent highlight for many guests.

Services: Essential Amenities for a Beach Stay

Ships Inn provides a range of services and amenities designed to cater to guests visiting Hampton Beach. Key services and features include:

  • Accommodation Types: The inn offers various room configurations, including double rooms, superior rooms, king rooms, and two-bedroom apartments. Many units are described as simple rooms with kitchens or kitchenettes, which include refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee/tea makers, making them suitable for longer stays or those who prefer to self-cater. Some apartments also feature full kitchens with ovens.
  • Comfort and Connectivity: Rooms come with air conditioning and heating, private bathrooms with showers (some with rainfall showerheads and complimentary toiletries), and flat-screen HD TVs with cable channels. Free high-speed WiFi is available in all rooms and public areas, ensuring guests can stay connected.
  • Recreational Facilities: Guests can enjoy two heated pools (seasonal, typically open from May 15 to September 30, 9 AM - 9 PM) and a children's pool, offering a refreshing alternative to the ocean. There's also a BBQ area and a rooftop deck for communal enjoyment.
  • Convenience Services: The inn offers a 24-hour emergency line and a front desk staffed daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Contactless check-in and check-out, as well as express check-in/out, are available for efficiency. Daily housekeeping is provided, or on request, depending on the booking platform. Vending machines for drinks and snacks are on-site.
  • Parking: Free private parking is available on-site, a valuable amenity in a popular tourist destination like Hampton Beach.
It is important to note that while some reviews praise customer service, particularly a "really nice front desk girl Erica," other reviews mention unhelpful responses, especially concerning significant issues like bed bugs, and a general lack of accountability. There are also mentions of issues with room security, such as a broken lock, and rooms being saturated with deodorizer, suggesting inconsistent service quality and maintenance.

Features: Practicality and Proximity

Ships Inn's core features revolve around its practical amenities and its enviable location.

  • Kitchen/Kitchenette Facilities: A significant feature for many guests is the availability of kitchenettes or full kitchens in many of their rooms. This allows guests to prepare their own meals, potentially saving on dining expenses during their beach vacation.
  • Outdoor Recreation: The presence of two heated outdoor pools, including a children's pool, and a BBQ area, provides ample opportunities for on-site recreation, particularly attractive for families or groups. The rooftop deck offers another space for relaxation and views.
  • Proximity to Attractions: Being "steps from Hampton Beach" and within a very short walk to the Casino Ballroom, Ocean Gaming Casino, and various dining options, makes it an ideal base for experiencing all that Hampton Beach has to offer without needing to drive.
  • Accessibility Features: While not a fully accessible property due to its structure, some information indicates features like smooth flooring in rooms and potentially roll-in showers in some units, and some rooms are noted as "Disability Access." However, it's mentioned that upper floors are accessible by stairs and there is no elevator.
  • Room Variability: Reviews suggest that room quality and condition can vary significantly. Some guests have reported comfortable beds and "cozy, quiet" rooms, while others have detailed severe issues, including "bed buggggssss" and maintenance problems like broken toilets or non-functional showers. This suggests that guests should inquire about specific room conditions or recent inspections.
The hotel accepts credit cards, debit cards, and cash, and a deposit (e.g., USD 200 per accommodation, per stay) may be required. The minimum check-in age is 21, and pets are generally not allowed, with the exception of service animals.

Promotional Information: Value and Seasonal Appeal

While specific, ongoing promotional "packages" are not widely advertised, Ships Inn's promotional appeal largely lies in its value proposition as a conveniently located beach hotel, especially during peak season.

  • Competitive Pricing: The hotel often appears with competitive pricing, particularly during the low season (January and November), making it an option for budget-conscious travelers. Average prices can vary, being higher during the high season (July).
  • Seasonal Appeal: The "high season" in July is promoted as offering "an amazing beach experience and a charming hotel atmosphere for families to enjoy," highlighting its suitability for summer vacations.
  • Direct Booking Tips: Travel sites offer "KAYAK's top tips" suggesting that the cheapest deals are found during the low season, and that prices can vary by day of the week (Sunday or Monday often being cheaper).
  • Room Selection Advice: Promotional advice sometimes includes recommendations to "opt for a Room with a View" or consider upgrading to a suite for more space, acknowledging the variety in room offerings. There's also advice to "consider Room Selection Carefully" and to "check for Functional Amenities" upon arrival, which, while practical for guests, indirectly points to the potential for inconsistency.
  • Proximity Benefits: The inn leverages its close proximity to Hampton Beach and the Casino Ballroom as a key selling point, as it reduces the need for transportation for local entertainment.
Guests are encouraged to check reviews and photos carefully before booking to ensure their expectations align with the varied experiences reported by previous guests. The hotel's appeal lies in its fundamental offering of a place to stay near the beach with practical amenities, though potential guests should be aware of the mixed feedback regarding maintenance and guest support.

The staff is very nice and polite. It is undergoing some Reno and we had a new room. Quiet, clean , Bed well made. I will go there again and see the finished Reno. Affordable. Close to everything without the noise. Good sleep.

Sunked Ship I was incredibly disappointed. The location was not as advertised, (we got some random less cared for adjacent building) and the parking situation was a nightmare. The building itself was in a state of disrepair, with visible water damage and mold. The room was equally unpleasant (understatement). It was dirty and neglected, with uncleaned towels, a fridge wasn't working, and disturbingly, what appeared to be bloodstains on the walls, curtains, and towels. The most unsettling detail was a handprint on the window that looked like someone had been dragged down. (?!?!?) I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. One person at the front desk seemed genuinely kind. Otherwise no.
