I never leave reviews but felt compelled! CONS--DIRTY room, TV volume broken, Front Desk was unattended, Breakfast--no coffee or out in the lobby! Cereal was left out from before--no prepared or heated food despite a waffle maker, oatmeal packages etc. Dining room was dark--lights not even turned on for the supposed breakfast 7:30-9:30 (no effort). This hotel is rundown, things broken, with a large hole in lobby wall. The room was dirty--there was something sticky on the table and nightstand and I wiped all surfaces with a wet towel to feel comfortable. The toilet bowl was not cleaned and there were smears on the wall. Dingy curtain. Stuffy at night. I arrived at 7pm with no one at the desk, waited at least 15 minutes before finding a piece of paper taped to the front door providing instructions for check in if arriving after midnight. The man on the intercom said to wait and he would be there soon. When I checked in the key card machine wasn't working well, so he gave me his own key fob and and brought keys to the room 15 min later. He was nice though. The hotel front door hindge was broken, it was swung open. The elevator was filled with strong glade smell. TV volume didn't work -couldn't hear it (had to put CC on to know what they were saying). Mixed neighborhood for safety--kinda sketchy park across the street. PROS--clean and comfy bed, clean towels, decent shower. Cute coffee shop/pastries next door since breakfast was unattended. Great Mexican restaurant 1 block. Easy walking distance to cool shops and hip town.
For local users and visitors exploring "Hotels Near Of Me" in the vibrant town of Hudson, NY, the St Charles Hotel presents itself as a centrally located option. Situated at 16 Park Pl, Hudson, NY 12534, USA, this hotel offers direct access to the town's unique shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. However, based on recent customer reviews, the St Charles Hotel offers a highly inconsistent guest experience, with notable disparities between positive and negative feedback regarding its environment, services, and features.
Environment and Ambiance:
The St Charles Hotel boasts a prime location "right in the heart of town," making it "easy to explore everything Hudson has to offer." Its proximity to "cool shops and hip town" is a significant advantage, allowing guests to easily walk to many local points of interest, including a "great Mexican restaurant 1 block" away and a "cute coffee shop/pastries next door." The external environment offers the convenience of urban exploration.
However, the internal environment of the hotel appears to be a major point of contention in recent reviews. Several guests have reported significant issues with cleanliness and maintenance. Descriptions include a "dirty room," "something sticky on the table and nightstand," "toilet bowl was not cleaned," "smears on the wall," and a "dingy curtain." Structural issues were also noted, such as a "large hole in lobby wall" and a "broken" front door hinge that was "swung open." The elevator was reportedly "filled with strong glade smell," suggesting attempts to mask other odors. This paints a picture of a property that, at times, struggles with upkeep and hygiene, contrasting sharply with one review's claim of a "spotlessly clean, and clearly very well maintained" room. The immediate neighborhood across the street, a park, was also described as "kinda sketchy," raising some safety concerns for at least one guest.
Services and Amenities:
Service at the St Charles Hotel also appears to be highly inconsistent. While one glowing review stated that "The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile," other recent experiences paint a very different picture. Multiple guests reported the "Front Desk was unattended," with one waiting "at least 15 minutes before finding a piece of paper taped to the front door providing instructions for check in if arriving after midnight." Even when staff were present, issues like a "key card machine wasn't working well" led to delayed room access. While the individual staff member encountered during check-in was described as "nice," the overall impression of front desk availability and efficiency is negative.
The complimentary breakfast is another area of significant discrepancy. One review praised it as "simple, fresh, and a great way to start the day." However, other, more detailed reviews described it as a total failure: "no coffee or out in the lobby!", "Cereal was left out from before--no prepared or heated food despite a waffle maker, oatmeal packages etc.", and the "Dining room was dark--lights not even turned on for the supposed breakfast 7:30-9:30 (no effort)." This stark contrast suggests either a rapid decline in breakfast service or extreme inconsistency.
In-room amenities also show a similar pattern of mixed experiences. While one guest found the room "cozy" and noted a "spotlessly clean" condition, others reported issues with the "TV volume didn't work -couldn't hear it (had to put CC on to know what they were saying)." On the positive side, some consistency was noted for "clean and comfy bed," "clean towels," and a "decent shower."

Promotional Information and Considerations:
For local users searching for "Hotels Near Of Me" in Hudson, the St Charles Hotel's primary draw is its unbeatable downtown location. If proximity to Hudson's vibrant main street is your absolute top priority and you are seeking a budget-friendly option, it might be considered. However, based on the recent and highly critical reviews, prospective guests should proceed with extreme caution and manage their expectations regarding the actual condition of the rooms, the availability and quality of services, and the overall cleanliness of the property. The severe negative feedback regarding hygiene, broken amenities, and unattended front desk service suggests significant operational challenges.
While one very positive review exists, it is heavily outweighed by multiple recent accounts of serious deficiencies. It's crucial for potential guests to consider these inconsistencies. For those prioritizing a truly clean and well-maintained environment, reliable service, and functional amenities, the St Charles Hotel, as currently described by the majority of recent guests, may not meet expectations. The "cute coffee shop/pastries next door" and the "Great Mexican restaurant 1 block" away might become essential external resources for breakfast and dining, given the hotel's reported internal issues.
For inquiries, the hotel can be reached at (518) 822-9900 or +1 518-822-9900. However, it is advisable to carefully read the most current guest reviews and consider alternative options in Hudson if cleanliness, consistent service, and functional amenities are high priorities for your stay.

May 06, 2025 · Leela Howard, LCMHCStaying at the St. Charles Hotel in Hudson, NY was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The location is perfect—right in the heart of town, making it easy to explore everything Hudson has to offer. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile. The room was cozy, spotlessly clean, and clearly very well maintained. I also really enjoyed the breakfast—simple, fresh, and a great way to start the day.
May 06, 2025 · Sebastian M SalazarThe hotel room showed one price in my confirmation email and when I checked my bank statement they overcharged me by $100.00. On top of this, the hotel is beyond dirty. The sink had Black Mold and the bed sheets were ripped. Paint peeling off the wall -it was horrible. I mentioned this at check out and I was then told by the owner“Housekeeping sometimes ignores some room and that is one of them (Room 315) “ . My friend also had a room and found Black Mold in the shower - they only offered $20 off each room. I had to remind him of the black mold yet again and that he admitted my room wasn’t properly cleaned and I got $50 off my $364.00 a night room. Overpriced , not clean and overcharged me . Be sure to compare your bank statement and confirmation emails if you do choose to stay. Only positive about this hotel is the location. Response to owner: I booked in Priceline it said my total was $804 before any deductions, I sent you this email. I also sent my bank statement which shows you charged me $906 . This has nothing to do with my refund and everything to do with your fraud.
May 16, 2025 · R FGreat place for the price with friendly staff. When he told me about the breakfast that started at 7, I told him thanks but that I was leaving by 6:30. When I left the next morning, he had had breakfast made early for me without my asking. They may be currently under construction and missing a few amenities, but they more than make up for it in service. I look forward to seeing it completed, and I will definitely consider staying here again if I'm back in the area!
