There was a time when this was a nice place to stay. That time is long past. The coffee maker in the room didn't work. The microwave had large areas of rust and chipping paint. the carpet had dried "goo" spots all over it (gum?). There were large wrinkles in the carpet that post a serious tripping hazard. The sink was old and badly scratched (and hadn't been cleaned as evident by the dirt and eyelashes) and did not have a stopper. The smell of perfume trying to cover up the smell of smoke was overwhelming. This hotel is badly in need of a renovation instead of the owners trying to milk all that they can out of the place. In short, don't stay here.
The Super 8 by Wyndham Norwich, located at 6067 NY-12, Norwich, NY 13815, USA, operates within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, offering lodging solutions for both travelers and local users seeking a convenient and generally affordable place to stay. As a part of the Super 8 by Wyndham chain, it typically provides a standardized level of service and amenities common to economy hotels. However, a comprehensive understanding of this particular location requires a balanced look at customer experiences, as indicated by contrasting reviews.
The environment of Super 8 by Wyndham Norwich presents a mixed picture based on direct customer feedback. One review indicates a significant decline in the hotel's condition, stating, "There was a time when this was a nice place to stay. That time is long past." This reviewer highlights issues such as a non-working coffee maker, a rusty and chipped microwave, "dried 'goo' spots" and "large wrinkles" in the carpet posing a tripping hazard, and a badly scratched, dirty sink without a stopper. The overwhelming smell of "perfume trying to cover up the smell of smoke" is also a major concern, suggesting environmental issues related to air quality and cleanliness that directly impact guest comfort. This perspective paints a picture of a facility in dire need of a renovation, where basic maintenance and cleanliness standards are not consistently met. Such conditions would significantly detract from a pleasant stay for any local user or traveler.
Conversely, another recent review offers a dramatically different perspective on the hotel's environment, emphasizing its positive aspects: "Awesome Staff. ... For the price on a weekend...I have never seen a better accommodations. Clean & comfortable." This reviewer describes the accommodations as "Clean & comfortable," directly contradicting the first review's assessment of cleanliness. The presence of free Wi-Fi and amenities like microwaves and refrigerators in rooms are generally standard offerings for Super 8 properties, contributing to a comfortable stay. The hotel is also pet-friendly, which can be a significant environmental factor for travelers with animals, though some past reviews caution checking rooms thoroughly due to potential issues. The hotel is situated on a state highway (NY-12), which provides convenient access for motorists but might also be a source of traffic noise, depending on room location. The property has 42 rooms spread over three floors, and while it does not have elevators, it strives for some level of accessibility with features like a well-lit path to the entrance and wheelchair-accessible parking and registration desk. The hotel indicates a commitment to sustainability through the Wyndham Green Program, focusing on initiatives such as LED lighting and recycling, which contributes positively to its environmental profile.
In terms of services, the Super 8 by Wyndham Norwich generally offers what is expected from an economy hotel brand. A 24-hour front desk ensures that guests can check in or seek assistance at any time, which is a crucial service for travelers arriving at various hours. The hotel provides a complimentary "on-the-go" breakfast daily from 6 AM to 9 AM, which typically includes light items like coffee, tea, juice, and potentially pre-packaged food, offering a convenient start to the day. Housekeeping services are provided daily, aiming to maintain room cleanliness, though the contrasting reviews suggest variability in execution. One glowing review specifically highlights exceptional housekeeping: "Housekeeping asked if I need anything! Wow! I gave 5 stars." This points to a proactive and attentive service from certain staff members. Free high-speed wireless internet access is available in all rooms and public areas, a vital service for both leisure and business travelers. Other amenities include self-serve laundry facilities, luggage storage, an ATM, and vending machines for snacks and beverages. For safety, rooms are equipped with in-room safes, and the front desk also has a safe. The hotel offers contactless check-in and check-out, and during the current health climate, implements measures like staff wearing personal protective equipment, temperature checks for staff and guests, and providing hand sanitizer. Pets are allowed for an extra charge of $10 per pet, per night, making it a viable option for those traveling with animals. Rollaway beds and free cribs/infant beds are available upon request, accommodating families.
Key features of the Super 8 by Wyndham Norwich include its brand affiliation, which generally signifies consistency across the chain, though this specific location appears to have varying adherence to standards. Its location on NY-12 is a significant feature for travelers, offering easy access to and from Norwich. It is also conveniently located near local points of interest such as the UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, Northeast Classic Car Museum, and the Chenango County Historical Society Museum, making it a practical base for exploring the area. In-room features typically include air conditioning, cable television, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee/tea makers, and private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries and hair dryers. Desks and irons/ironing boards are available, further enhancing the comfort and utility of the rooms. The provision of free parking, including space for RVs, buses, and trucks, is a notable convenience, especially for those traveling with larger vehicles. The hotel emphasizes eco-friendly features like energy-saving switches and LED light bulbs, aligning with broader sustainability efforts by the Wyndham brand.
From a promotional standpoint, the Super 8 by Wyndham brand often promotes its value and essential comforts. For the Super 8 by Wyndham Norwich specifically, the promotional message is complicated by the conflicting reviews. The positive review, highlighting "Awesome Staff" and "Clean & comfortable" accommodations for "the price on a weekend," serves as a strong endorsement for its value proposition. This suggests that the hotel can indeed deliver a satisfactory experience, particularly due to the efforts of its staff. However, the deeply negative review, describing significant cleanliness and maintenance issues, acts as a counter-promotion, urging potential guests to "don't stay here." This stark contrast in experiences suggests that the hotel's actual state and guest experience might be inconsistent. Promotional efforts would ideally address these inconsistencies directly, perhaps by highlighting recent renovations or specific commitments to quality improvement. For local users or travelers considering this hotel under the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, it is advisable to consider recent reviews carefully and possibly call ahead to inquire about specific room conditions or recent updates. The hotel's phone number, (607) 296-0524 or +1 607-296-0524, is the direct channel for such inquiries, as well as for checking current rates and any potential deals. While Super 8 often offers military discounts and other promotions through the Wyndham loyalty program, specific local promotions would need to be confirmed directly with the hotel.

Apr 10, 2025 · Heather DiamondEven though the hotel is outdated, the rooms were very clean. Linens clean. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s close to shopping. There is a farmers market and hamburger/ice cream stand across the street. Refrigerator in microwave in the room along with all of the normal amenities. I was not able to stream on TV because they only have cable. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Average water pressure. My only complaint is something that’s not the hotels fault. They do allow pets and there was a very energetic husky above my room. Our friendly husky calm down at about 11 PM so I was able to get sleep.
Jun 01, 2024 · Ms. JWhere do I start? Room, lobby and hallways smelled of cigarettes. Entire hotel was outdated and showing signs of wear. Security latch on our room door was broken. Sheets were clean, but thats the only positive. I had a surprisingly good sleep. Vinyl floor was warped and uneven. Felt like you were walking on logs. Outlet was inaccessible. TV did not work. Wifi was weak (3rd floor). Bathroom sink and tub were dirty. Shower curtain was too short. Parking lot had a huge pothole coming in. Seemed like people were only staying as a last resort. Do not stay here if your life depends on it!
