I've traveled the world and I've never experienced a situation like the one I had at the Beach Rose Inn. The property didn't have anyone on-site (staff or guest) and to try to have a conversation with two people (in what sounded like a call center) via a Ring camera next to the highway was nearly impossible; them asking me to show my credit card number was a red flag. Had this been my first Airbnb experience, I'd never use the service / app again. Shady business practices by this property. Women and solo travelers BE WARNED!
For those utilizing the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform to find accommodation in Wells, Maine, The Beach Rose Inn presents itself as a budget-friendly option. Located at 971 Post Rd, Wells, ME 04090, USA, the inn can be contacted at (207) 360-2038 or via mobile at +1 207-360-2038. It aims to provide an affordable stay, though prospective guests should be aware of certain operational aspects and guest experiences.
Environment and Location:
The Beach Rose Inn is situated on Post Road (US-1) in Wells, Maine, a primary thoroughfare that connects various coastal towns. Its location offers convenience for accessing local amenities and attractions. The inn is described as being "next to the highway," which implies easy access for travelers but could also suggest potential road noise. While not directly on the beach, its location in Wells means it's within a reasonable driving distance of Wells Beach and other coastal attractions that the town is known for. Guests with a car would likely find it manageable to navigate to nearby points of interest, including restaurants, shops, and natural areas. The general environment is characteristic of a roadside inn, often surrounded by other commercial establishments. The overall atmosphere, as suggested by "retro charm" comments, leans towards a more vintage or older property feel, which some might find appealing for its character, while others may perceive it as dated.
Services and Amenities:
Information regarding services and amenities for The Beach Rose Inn is somewhat limited in detail, but guest reviews provide critical insights. The inn operates without "anyone on-site (staff or guest)," implying a self-check-in or remote management system. Communication with staff appears to be primarily via a "Ring camera next to the highway" connected to what sounds like a "call center." This remote operational model raises concerns for some guests, particularly regarding the process of check-in and problem resolution. Guest reviews specifically mention "checking in is a nightmare" and a "red flag" regarding requests to "show my credit card number" via the Ring camera. There is a reported policy of charging a "late check-in fee" or an "early check-in fee," with one guest noting a potential "$30 if you check in even 20 minutes early." This suggests a rigid and potentially unforgiving check-in process. Regarding in-room amenities, rooms are described as having "clean" beds that are "comfy." However, critical issues with plumbing are reported, with the "toilet is cracked" and the "shower is either way too hot or way too cold." Internet service is noted as "slow." There is no mention of breakfast, a pool, or other common hotel amenities, indicating a more basic lodging experience focused on providing essential sleeping arrangements. The property appears to have a minimal service model, which directly impacts the guest experience, particularly for those expecting on-site assistance.
Features:
The primary feature of The Beach Rose Inn is its affordability, often highlighted by guests as being "cheap." This makes it an option for budget-conscious travelers. The inn's decor, described as being "from the 80s," gives it a "retro charm," which could be seen as a unique aesthetic feature by some. Rooms are noted as being "clean," which is a fundamental positive, particularly for a budget property. The comfortable beds are another favorable feature. However, the operational model, characterized by a lack of on-site staff and reliance on remote communication via a Ring camera, is a distinct feature that significantly shapes the guest experience, often negatively. This system is seen as a "shady business practice" by some. The presence of a cracked toilet and inconsistent shower temperatures points to a lack of consistent maintenance and updating of bathroom facilities. Slow internet is another functional limitation. Despite these challenges, the core offering is a clean, affordable room with a comfortable bed, appealing to travelers who prioritize cost over comprehensive amenities and seamless service.
Promotional Information and Guest Experiences:
While specific promotional materials for The Beach Rose Inn are not provided, the general promotional angle would likely center on its affordability and location as a base for exploring Wells. However, the unvarnished guest reviews present a challenging narrative for promotion. The most significant points of contention include the highly problematic check-in process ("checking in is a nightmare," "shady business practices"), the absence of on-site staff, and the perceived security risk associated with being asked for credit card numbers via a Ring camera, especially for "Women and solo travelers." The functional issues within the rooms, such as cracked toilets, erratic shower temperatures, and slow internet, are also major deterrents. While the cleanliness of the rooms and comfortable beds are noted as positives, they often fail to compensate for the operational and amenity shortcomings. The stark statement "Had this been my first Airbnb experience, I'd never use the service / app again" underscores the severe disappointment some guests feel. The overall sentiment expressed by a disillusioned guest, "I will never ever again stay here and I will tell everyone know not to stay here! Find another hotel to anyone looking! Couldn鈥檛 be more disappointed!!!!," is a strong deterrent. Therefore, any promotional efforts would need to carefully balance the affordability with transparency regarding the unique operational model and the potential for significant guest challenges. For "Hotels Near Of Me" users, the key takeaway is that while it is indeed "cheap," the trade-off comes with potential issues related to service, amenities, and security concerns, making it suitable only for those extremely budget-conscious travelers who are prepared for a very independent and potentially challenging stay.
In conclusion, for those seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" in Wells, Maine, The Beach Rose Inn offers a very budget-friendly price point and clean rooms with comfortable beds, which might appeal to highly cost-conscious travelers. However, it operates with a unique, remote management system that has led to significant guest dissatisfaction, particularly concerning the check-in process, perceived security issues, and lack of on-site assistance. Furthermore, guests have reported functional problems with plumbing and internet, and a generally outdated decor. While it provides an affordable roof over one's head in Wells, prospective guests should be fully prepared for a highly independent stay and potential inconveniences, as the reported guest experiences suggest it may not meet standard expectations for comfort, convenience, or service quality.

Apr 24, 2025 路 Brand StandingAt least it's cheap. Rooms are clean, but the decor is from the 80s, which kind of gives the place a retro charm. Checking in is a nightmare, and they will try to charge you $30 if you check in even 20 minutes early. The internet is slow, and the plumbing is awful. The toilet is cracked, and the shower is either way too hot or way too cold. The beds are comfy though 馃槍
Nov 23, 2024 路 Amahl BlowdupLocation is good alright, close to many amenities. Service was absolutely horrendous. We felt very unwelcoming. I could look beyond that but the rooms were very dirty and uncomfortable. The door didn鈥檛 lock properly so we had tons of stray light at night. The entire place felt like it needs a major upgrade. Better to spend the night elsewhere
Oct 11, 2024 路 Arne VandenbrouckeYikes - got our rooms wrong, refused any form of refund, and there was no one at the desk during the allotted check-in hours. Really awful experience.
Apr 12, 2025 路 PeterNot bad at all. Quaint. Cute location. Hard to go wrong here, though. Overall not top tier, but a great place to crash on a whim for the night. AC worked well, cute wraparound porch, but got no briefing on the wifi. Laura is amazing and helpful.
