We’ve been coming here for years and love the location of the Inn and the quaintness however our last trip in March was sadly disappointing. The restaurant is closed for renovations but gone too is any type of room service or daily room cleaning. We had to ask for clean towels. The front desk staff was down right rude and didn’t make you feel welcome in the least. They don’t even set out ice and water for self serve. If you’re looking for any type of pampering, this isn’t the place to book!

Location and Accessibility

The Monte Vista Hotel boasts an excellent location at 308 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711, USA. This address places it squarely in the heart of downtown Black Mountain, a highly desirable position for visitors. Black Mountain itself is a picturesque town renowned for its artistic community, vibrant Town Square, diverse culinary scene, and its welcoming, walkable atmosphere. It's often referred to as "the little town that rocks" due to its lively cultural offerings and friendly locals.

The hotel's location on West State Street means guests are just steps away from Black Mountain's main attractions. This includes an array of local boutiques, art galleries featuring regional artists, charming cafes, and a variety of restaurants catering to all tastes. This walkability enhances the overall experience, allowing guests to truly immerse themselves in the local character of Black Mountain.

For North Carolina residents, Black Mountain is remarkably accessible. It's situated just east of Asheville, a major regional hub, and is easily reached via Interstate 40. This makes The Monte Vista Hotel a straightforward drive from various parts of the state, whether you're coming from the Triangle, the Triad, or other Western NC cities. The combination of its central downtown location and ease of access from across the state makes The Monte Vista Hotel a convenient and appealing choice for locals seeking a mountain escape.

For North Carolina residents seeking a distinctive and centrally located getaway, The Monte Vista Hotel in Black Mountain offers a unique proposition, particularly for those who appreciate history and a strong sense of place. It's important for locals to manage expectations regarding current service levels, especially concerning dining and daily housekeeping, and to confirm these details directly with the hotel. However, the potential for exceptional staff interactions, as exemplified by the team going "above and beyond" for a birthday celebration, highlights the capacity for genuine hospitality. For North Carolinians who prioritize a central location, historic ambiance, and the charm of a walkable mountain town, The Monte Vista Hotel remains a compelling choice for a unique local getaway in the heart of Black Mountain. It's an opportunity to connect with the authentic spirit of one of our state's most beloved mountain communities.

I will say first and foremost that I very much appreciated the accommodations at a time when I had no idea what we would do after Helene took everything we had. So I do thank Monte Vista for working with fema. Aside from that like say I had paid to stay I don't know if guests are treated the same. It was like bc we were put here by FEMA and we weren't paid guests then we weren't a priority. Staff were lazy and very interested in helping us with minor things like a drop cord or hot enough water to make hot chocolate. I was told that drop cords made the outlets blow therefore he wouldn't give me any extra cord(which I knew was available). Also was told that extra hot water "just wasn't something they had there". Oh really. Then there were about five days or so during the two months we were there that my husband and I were very sick. I had rested all day and woke around ten minutes till eleven pm. So I thought everyone had left for the night so I let myself in the kitchen area just to get ice. While I was in there getting ice the guy working that evening came in the kitchen. He was nowhere to be found when I looked for him(which was very common happened most often). He told me that I could always call "Shawn" that he was always there and would be glad to get ice if it were after eleven pm. So I said ok cool. Fast forward two nights, id slept again as I was still feeling very bad. Came down to get ice and called the "Shawn" guy. He was "in bed" and let me know that it was going to be a little bit before he could get down to me. He was annoyed at me and I could hear as much in his voice which he did not care to let he hear it might I add. So I told him since it just seemed to be an issue just not worry about it that I was sorry for the trouble and he was all too happy to hang up the phone. The rooms were very cramped and had no refrigerator no tv. No place to sit except for a straight chair or the bed. Like for real that was it. They never picked up trash. As a matter of fact the entire motel has barely any trash cans. Like our room didn't even have one I had to go search for one and finally acquired one. About middle ways thru our stay I was told that the reason the cleaning rooms had suddenly been locked was bc things were being taken. So from then on every time I needed to sweep our floor and clean up the bathroom etc. I had to go hunt and I mean hunt for a staff member just to ask for a broom and cleaning supplies. Just for them to act like it was a problem for them to put their phone down and assist me. All of that being said if I return to stay again and I am paying for it, and I plan to, I really hope that the staff treats paying customers better than the treatment they've showed me as a fema guest. I still enjoyed my time there bc I am the type of person that usually don't let the way other people act dictate my experience of life. I was very pleased with the way my dog was treated. They were nicer to him than they were to me.

We have stayed here three times in the past 6 years. We keep coming back since we can walk to most places in Black Mtn. Unfortunately, each visit keeps getting progressively worse. This last time the service was almost non existent. No maid service during our stay and hardly anyone was ever at the front desk. When they were, they weren’t even pleasant. They didn’t look up from their computer when we came in the door or offer a greeting of any kind. The restaurant is also closed down. Sad to see this go downhill.

Great hotel and great service. We had a little staycation from Asheville and this was perfect. Reasonably priced and easy walking distance to everything in downtown Asheville. The staff was super helpful and we had a really great stay. I will definitely stay here when back in Black Mountain
