We were really looking forward to our stay, a get away badly needed. For the price we paid, the experience didn’t meet our expectations. While the rates are competitive for the area, other places offer more amenities and a smoother experience—we visited a few other places while we were there, which made this even more apparent. The room was small and not as clean as we had hoped, the bed was uncomfortable, and the TV setup was lacking. The shower was especially frustrating—it took forever to warm up, never got truly hot, and kept losing water pressure. The dining area where breakfast was served was also not very clean. While breakfast was included, the process felt disorganized. We were scheduled for breakfast the first morning but were never asked about the following days, which left us unsure of how it worked. Their special avocado toast with bacon was underwhelming—just sliced avocado with salt and pepper on hard toast, with cut-up pieces of bacon and eggs on the side, but they never asked how we wanted the eggs cooked. Communication was another challenge. We asked for extra firewood via text, as they stated that was their preferred method of contact. The second night, we received no response, so we texted the second number. After they eventually delivered the wood, they told us there would be an additional charge. This was confusing because on the first night, they delivered extra wood without mentioning any extra fees. When we pointed this out, they replied, "Enjoy it on us," which only added to the inconsistency and confusion. We knew when we checked in that the owner wouldn’t be around for the weekend, so we were prepared for that. However, the atmosphere still felt a bit off, and the people running things seemed disorganized. We ultimately left a day early despite having paid in full. After we left, the person in charge did text us to say they hoped everything was okay. I chose not to respond, as I felt our experience was already clear and that texting wasn’t the best way to communicate my concerns. Instead, I’m sharing my honest review here for future guests. For the money we spent, the quality and experience did not match our expectations. Hopefully, this was just an off weekend, but we wanted to share our honest experience so others can make an informed decision.

Environment: Historic Charm Steps from Woodstock Village

The Village Inn Of Woodstock is nestled on Pleasant Street, a location that offers a blend of tranquility and immediate access to the vibrant heart of Woodstock village. The village itself is celebrated for its quintessential New England charm, featuring well-preserved historic architecture, a beautiful village green, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

The inn's environment reflects this historic character, housed in a building that dates back to 1899 and boasts Victorian architecture. Guests can expect to be surrounded by the serene beauty of a residential street, yet remain within easy walking distance of Woodstock's main attractions, including its unique shops, art galleries, and diverse dining establishments. The property reportedly features a garden and a terrace, offering guests pleasant outdoor spaces to relax and enjoy the Vermont air. The surrounding landscape of Woodstock includes rolling hills, the Ottauquechee River, and an abundance of natural beauty that changes dramatically with each season, from the vibrant colors of fall foliage to the serene snowy scenes of winter. One guest enthusiastically described the inn's ambiance, stating, "If it wasn't for the snow outside I would have sworn I was staying at a B&B in New Orleans! What a cozy eclectic inn!" This suggests a unique and characterful setting, potentially with a flair for the unexpected.

Services: A Focus on Personalized Experience (with some caveats)

The Village Inn Of Woodstock aims to provide a personalized and welcoming experience, characteristic of a boutique inn. While some guests have reported exceptional hospitality, others have highlighted areas for improvement in service delivery.

Generally offered services include:

  • Free Daily Full Breakfast: A key amenity for guests, often described as delicious and gourmet by positive reviewers. However, one guest's experience noted a lack of clarity regarding breakfast scheduling for subsequent days and an underwhelming "special avocado toast."
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Available in all rooms and public areas, ensuring guests can stay connected.
  • Free Self-Parking: Convenient on-site parking is provided, which is a valuable amenity in a charming village setting. An electric vehicle charging station is also available.
  • Limited Hour Front Desk: The front desk is open daily from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Guests planning to arrive after 7:00 PM are advised to contact the property in advance for special check-in instructions.
  • Concierge Services: Staff are available to offer assistance with local recommendations and bookings, though consistency in communication has been a point of concern for some.
  • Daily Housekeeping: Ensures rooms are maintained, though one reviewer did mention their room was "not as clean as we had hoped."
  • Luggage Storage: A convenient service for guests arriving early or departing late.
  • Bar/Lounge On-site: The inn reportedly features "The Vic Tavern," offering additional dining and drink options.
  • Express Check-in/Check-out: Streamlines the arrival and departure process for guests.

Guest feedback suggests that while some staff members are highly praised for their friendliness and helpfulness ("The owners go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. We adored their hospitality!"), other experiences indicate potential inconsistencies in communication and service execution, particularly when the owner is not present. This can lead to a mixed experience, as one guest described the atmosphere as "a bit off" and the people running things as "disorganized."

Features: Eclectic Charm and Village Proximity

The Village Inn Of Woodstock prides itself on its "cozy eclectic inn" atmosphere, offering a unique lodging experience distinct from larger, more uniform hotels.

Key features include:

  • Individually Decorated Rooms: The inn offers 8 air-conditioned accommodations, each individually furnished and decorated with period antiques, creating a distinct and romantic ambiance. Some rooms feature private bathrooms with designer toiletries, hair dryers, and Turkish cotton towels. Some rooms boast unique features like a two-person whirlpool tub or a two-headed shower.
  • Fireplaces: Some rooms and common areas are equipped with gas fireplaces, adding to the cozy and inviting atmosphere, particularly during cooler months. However, communication regarding extra firewood and associated charges has been inconsistent, as noted by a guest.
  • Arcade/Game Room: Provides an entertainment option within the inn, featuring board games and puzzles.
  • Library: A quiet space for guests to relax and read.
  • Garden and Terrace: Outdoor spaces for relaxation, with one guest mentioning a "beautifully maintained garden" and a "serene fish pond."
  • On-site Dining (The Vic Tavern): Offers dinner options in addition to the complimentary breakfast. While some positive reviews mention "great food and was very popular," other feedback suggests the breakfast, while included, can be inconsistent in quality and presentation.
  • Proximity to Woodstock Attractions: Its location on Pleasant Street places it very close to the heart of Woodstock village, allowing guests to walk to:
    • The historic Village Green with its boutiques and eateries.
    • Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park for hiking and nature exploration.
    • Billings Farm & Museum, a popular working farm and museum.
    • Other local shops, art galleries, and cultural sites.
  • Victorian Architecture: The building itself contributes to the inn's unique charm, with its historic structure built in 1899.
  • Hypo-allergenic bedding: Available upon request, catering to guests with allergies.

While the inn's unique character and central location are definite strengths, the customer reviews indicate that the condition of some facilities, such as the shower's water pressure and temperature, and the comfort of the beds, might vary.

Promotional Information: Value and Expectations

When searching for "Hotels Near Of Me," potential guests considering The Village Inn Of Woodstock should weigh the advertised value against reported guest experiences. While specific promotional offers for The Village Inn Of Woodstock are not widely advertised on major booking platforms beyond the inclusion of free breakfast, it's advisable to consider the overall value proposition.

Points to consider regarding promotional value:

  • Competitive Rates for the Area: As one guest noted, "While the rates are competitive for the area," implying that the pricing is generally in line with other accommodations in Woodstock.
  • Included Breakfast: The complimentary full breakfast is a standard offering, which adds value to the stay.
  • Direct Booking: Contacting the inn directly at (802) 457-1255 or +1 802-457-1255 may sometimes reveal unadvertised specials or provide the most accurate information on current rates and availability. Their official website (villageinnofwoodstock.com) is also a good resource for direct bookings and understanding their policies.
  • Seasonal Fluctuations: Like most Vermont accommodations, rates are likely to fluctuate based on seasonality, with peak times like fall foliage season and winter holidays commanding higher prices. Guests seeking better value might consider visiting during off-peak periods.
  • Understanding Expectations: Based on customer reviews, guests should manage their expectations regarding amenities and service consistency. While some find the "cozy eclectic inn" charming, others accustomed to more standardized hotel experiences might find certain aspects, such as shower quality or communication, less smooth.

The Village Inn Of Woodstock appears to appeal strongly to those who appreciate a unique, historic, and eclectic inn experience with a personal touch. While some aspects of service and room comfort have received mixed feedback, its central location, historic ambiance, and the reported warmth of the owners remain significant draws for many travelers. Prospective guests are encouraged to contact the inn directly for the most current information and to clarify any specific expectations regarding their stay.

We cannot express enough gratitude to Heather and Jarret, the wonderful owners of The Village Inn of Woodstock, for helping us create such a magical wedding day. When we asked to be married on their beautiful property, they immediately accommodated us, and their entire team went above and beyond. Special thanks to Sawyer, the bartender extraordinaire and go-to guy at The Vic Tavern, for helping make everything seamless. From setting up the space to decorating the fireplace and even capturing photos and videos of us exchanging our vows, their thoughtfulness made the moment unforgettable. The Inn itself is just as wonderful as the people who run it. The rooms are both beautiful and comfortable, offering the perfect blend of charm and relaxation. The location couldn’t be more ideal—just a short walk to the heart of Woodstock village, where everything is easily accessible. Each morning, we were treated to fabulous breakfast offerings, lovingly prepared by Heather, and we can't forget to mention the cleverly crafted cocktails at the Vic, which were a perfect complement to our evenings. We had our ceremony in a charming, eclectic space just outside the Vic Tavern, and afterward, Heather and Sawyer hosted us and our officiant for a mini reception in the Tavern. We were greeted with prosecco and great conversation, making us feel like we were celebrating with friends. If you're looking for a venue that combines charm, warmth, and personal care, The Village Inn of Woodstock is it. Thank you again to Heather, Jarret, and Sawyer for making our day so special!

Wow! If you are looking to spend some time in Woodstock, VT we have found an amazing place for you to stay! We had a delightful time with Heather (our gracious host) and her team this past weekend. The B&B exceeded our expectations in this quaint town. The home is well appointed and simply beautiful, romantic, yet comfortable. Our suite was perfect and truly felt like a home-away-from-home. Now lets talk food ....... we all know there are many options available but when do you get to sample amazing, homemade and locally prepared foods as part of your stay at a B&B? Heather's restaurant, The Vic Tavern does not disappoint! Her unique creations will have us going back for more. We had an elegant breakfast prepared for us each morning; and yes, we also dined with her for dinner as well. We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything tasted. Beyond her culinary expertise, fresh and local ingredients truly make a difference. Can't wait to return and THANK YOU, Heather for such an amazing weekend.

We recently took a mini 3 night vacation in Woodstock VT staying at The Village Inn and could not have been more pleased. Our room, and the Inn, was charming with a New England character. Breakfast was delicious every day, made fresh with local sources. There is a tavern that is part of the Inn (The Vic) where we had an equally delicious dinner. Heather, the owner/chef/innkeeper is a delight and an amazing chef who made us comfortable throughout our stay. The Inn is a brief walk to the town center, and a short drive to many local points of interest. Overall, the best of everything, helping to make our stay in the area enjoyable. 5 stars for sure.
