Environment and Location

Wiscasset Woods Lodge is nestled on eight acres of beautiful woodlands, providing a serene and secluded environment while still being easily accessible right off Route 1. This strategic location means guests are close to everything, allowing for convenient access to Wiscasset’s charming village and the wider MidCoast Maine attractions. The property itself offers a peaceful escape, with well-maintained grounds, including a 1/3 mile hiking trail winding through the woods. Guests can enjoy the outdoors with picnic tables and fire rings, making it ideal for relaxing evenings. The natural surroundings are often lauded by visitors, with many commenting on the lovely landscaping, which features various plantings that ensure something is in bloom throughout different seasons. The lodge's history is steeped in the evolution of Route 1 as a tourist route, with its roots tracing back to early cabins built for travelers in the 1910s, giving it a unique character and connection to the area's heritage. The century-old pine walls and wainscoting, milled from on-site trees, further enhance its rustic and authentic appeal.

Services and Amenities

Wiscasset Woods Lodge prides itself on offering a range of services designed to enhance the guest experience. A standout feature, consistently praised by visitors, is the complimentary, hot, homemade breakfast served every morning. This is not your typical continental spread; guests rave about fresh items like bacon, potatoes, banana cake, eggs, and delicious homemade yogurt cups. For those with special dietary needs, the lodge generally accommodates requests with advance notice. Breakfast is served from 7 am – 9:30 am on weekdays and 7 am – 10 am on weekends (May – Mid October only). While the lodge does not serve dinner, guests are welcome to bring food into the dining room or take paper plates and plastic ware back to their rooms. There is also a microwave available in the dining room for heating meals.

The lodge offers 29 cozy rooms, including 3 suites perfect for families or groups. Each room comes equipped with a private bath, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable television, refrigerators, and microwaves. The rooms are divided into two main categories: Cottage Rooms and Motel Rooms. The Cottage Rooms, originally built as small cabins in the 1915s, have been completely remodeled with knotty pine interiors and often feature vaulted ceilings, offering a unique and charming feel. The Motel Rooms, built in two phases in the early 1970s, are generally larger and reminded some guests of summer camp. The lodge also provides mobility-friendly rooms with features like roll-in showers, ensuring accessibility for all.

Wiscasset Woods Lodge is notably pet-friendly, offering 7 designated pet-friendly rooms. They welcome up to three dogs per room with no size or weight limit, though a $30 pet fee per pet per night applies. Pets are allowed in the lobby but not in the dining room, and guests are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. The lodge's commitment to accommodating furry companions is a significant draw for many travelers.

For late arrivals, the lodge has an easy and clear after-hours check-in system. Guests arriving after 8 pm are encouraged to contact the lodge for the access code. Standard check-in begins at 3:00 pm, and check-out is at 11 am. Housekeeping service is available upon request during guest stays, ensuring privacy while still providing necessary supplies. The lodge also emphasizes security, with precautions taken to safeguard personal information during reservations.

Features and Unique Aspects

Beyond the comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast, Wiscasset Woods Lodge offers several unique features that enhance its appeal. The rustic retreat atmosphere, with its natural pine walls and wainscoting, provides a true sense of place in Maine. The emphasis on homemade food, especially the breakfast, creates a personal and welcoming touch that sets it apart from larger chain hotels. The easy online reservation system is also a plus for modern travelers.

The lodge's commitment to being bicycle-friendly is another notable feature, particularly for those exploring Route 1. They allow bikes in hotel rooms and provide a bike stand and repair tools in an outside covered area, catering to the needs of cyclists. The property also offers outdoor games like cornhole, adding to the recreational opportunities on site. For group gatherings or events, the lodge offers an event space on the second floor, complete with five rooms, including the Maine room, a Tree House room, a residential kitchen, and office space. In the off-season, the dining room with its working fireplace can also be used for events.

Promotional Information and Guest Testimonials

Wiscasset Woods Lodge values direct bookings and offers promotions for guests who reserve through their website. They provide a 5% discount for stays of 3 consecutive nights or more, which is automatically calculated by their reservation system. For even longer stays, a 10% discount applies for 6 nights or more. Special discounts are also available for specific groups, such as Shelter Institute students (20% discount for 5+ nights using promo code "shelter") and WWF Spring Work Weekend volunteers (15% discount for 2+ nights, requiring a direct call to book). It's important to note that these discounts generally apply only to direct bookings and not to reservations made through third-party platforms.

Quaint, incredibly cozy, quiet and well-appointed rooms. And the breakfast was 10/10 a lovely surprise. They really do a nice job with fresh breakfast items (bacon, potatoes, banana cake, eggs, delicious homemade yogurt cups, etc.). Late night check in was easy, clear, and smooth. We wish our flight hadn’t been so delayed so we could have rested in the room and walked across the beautiful forest grounds more! Online reservation was straightforward and clear as well!

A nice motel run by very nice people. We stayed in the back rooms. Very cozy and clean. Perfect price for this time of year.

My girlfriend and I heard and witnessed the owner of this establishment, white haired man, screaming at employees and his wife the co owner. This is the very last place I'd recommend for families with kids.

We felt right at home during our stay at the Wiscasset Woods Lodge! Trish is an absolutely wonderful host and the homemade blueberry cobbler (and muffins) were INCREDIBLE. The room was clean and quiet, and had everything we needed for a weekend away. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Maine!
