This review, really needs to be sent to corporate. I booked 2 room on priceline on 04/20/2025. when I arrived at the location. I asked the attendees do you have connecting rooms. He replied "No" so I told him that I needed my rooms to be connected and he said I'm sorry I cannot help you. So we all left the location and went to the hotel competition, which they were able to accommodate our needs with no issues and also gave us a $25 dollar discount on the bill plus free parking. Now here is where the issue comes in, since I did not stay at American Best Value Inn. The Manager Rick stated I am not going to refund your money or cancel your reservation. He also stated it's just like when you go to the airport and you miss your flight the plane still takes off. My reply was the plane takes off but the airlines will book you on a later flight or give you credit. Rick did not want to do neither. All I ask for Rick to do was to cancel the reservation. So I can be refunded back by priceline. Rick refused to do that also he wants to keep the $31 deposit plus $93. Additional for 2 rooms we never used. The Manager Rick showed now professional management skills he never thought of customer satisfaction first. And I believe corporate needs to send Rick to management retraining on customer service. Because he truly did not have any. Furthermore I drove to the hotel to talk to the manager Rick in person. Rick nor any employee behind the counter never came to the window after I stood there for 15 minutes ringing the bell on the counter. To me that shows you American Best Value Inn. Is being operating very shady. I will give this location no stars and I will NOT recommend this location for a homless person to stay at for free. I personally would not recommend this location to no one. Please stay away if you don't want to get robbed.
When planning a visit to the vibrant city of San Antonio, Texans often seek accommodations that offer a balance between affordability and a convenient location. Americas Best Value Inn San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk, situated at 2203 E Commerce St, aims to position itself as a budget-friendly option for travelers looking to explore the city's downtown attractions without a hefty price tag. Part of the Americas Best Value Inn chain, which focuses on providing essential amenities at a competitive rate, this hotel caters to those who prioritize cost-efficiency for their lodging needs.
The property generally offers standard motel amenities, including complimentary continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and pet-friendly rooms, catering to basic traveler requirements. It aims to provide a functional and no-frills place to stay, allowing guests to allocate more of their budget towards experiencing San Antonio's rich culture, historic sites, and lively entertainment. However, it is crucial for prospective guests to be aware that while the hotel advertises certain amenities and a downtown-adjacent location, recent customer feedback has highlighted significant concerns regarding cleanliness, customer service, and overall guest experience. Therefore, while it presents itself as a value option, a thorough understanding of current guest realities is essential before booking.
Americas Best Value Inn San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk is located at 2203 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78203, USA. This address places it to the east of the primary downtown and Riverwalk areas, offering a location that is generally considered accessible to key San Antonio attractions, though often requiring a short drive or public transportation.
For Texans driving into the city, the hotel's location off E Commerce Street provides relatively straightforward access. It's positioned to allow guests to reach popular destinations like the Alamodome (approximately 1.7 km or 1.1 miles), the Tower of the Americas (around 2.2 km or 1.4 miles), and the Henry B. González Convention Center (about 2.3 km or 1.4 miles) with relative ease by car. While the name includes "Downtown Riverwalk," direct walking access to the main bustling sections of the River Walk (approximately 2.9 km or 1.8 miles) and The Alamo (around 2.5 km or 1.6 miles) would be a considerable walk, making vehicle use or ride-sharing a more practical option for most visitors.
The hotel offers on-site self-parking, although it's important to note that a fee (stated as $5 per day) applies for parking, which is a consideration for budget travelers accustomed to free parking at some other economy motels. For those without a vehicle, local public transportation options would be available from the area to connect to downtown. The immediate vicinity is a mixed-use area, and guests should be aware that the overall environment might differ from the highly manicured tourist zones closer to the heart of the River Walk. Its proximity to major highways like I-10 and I-35 also allows for relatively easy ingress and egress from the city.

Important Note on Services: While these services are advertised, recent customer reviews strongly indicate significant inconsistencies in the delivery and quality of these services, particularly concerning room cleanliness, functional amenities (like comforters or hot water), and staff responsiveness. Prospective guests should factor in this discrepancy.
Americas Best Value Inn San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk aims to offer a few key features that are intended to be highlights for its guests. However, it's crucial to contextualize these "highlights" with the very serious concerns raised in recent customer feedback. Based on the hotel's advertised features:
Downtown-Adjacent Location: Its primary advertised feature is its location at 2203 E Commerce St. While not directly on the River Walk, it is positioned to offer relatively quick access by car or public transport to major San Antonio attractions such as the Alamodome, Tower of the Americas, Henry B. González Convention Center, and various downtown points of interest. For those attending events at the Alamodome, this proximity could be a convenience.
Budget-Friendly Pricing: As an Americas Best Value Inn, its main appeal is typically its affordable rates, aiming to provide a cost-effective lodging option for travelers.
Complimentary Continental Breakfast: The inclusion of a free breakfast is a notable feature for budget travelers, offering a simple way to start the day without an additional expense.
Pet-Friendly Accommodation: The hotel's policy of welcoming pets (for a fee) is a valuable feature for those traveling with their furry companions, as not all hotels offer this flexibility.
Free Wi-Fi and Essential In-Room Amenities: Guests can expect free Wi-Fi and basic comforts such as air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffee/tea makers in their rooms, providing fundamental conveniences.
Electric Vehicle Charging Station: The presence of an EV charging station on-site is a modern amenity that caters to electric vehicle owners, a thoughtful addition for eco-conscious travelers.
Recent Renovations (Claimed): Some information suggests that parts of the hotel, or specific rooms, may have been renovated as recently as 2022. This could imply an effort to update the property and enhance guest experience, though recent reviews directly challenge the effectiveness or consistency of these renovations across all rooms.
Critical Warning for Guests: It is imperative to acknowledge that the provided customer reviews present a stark contrast to these advertised highlights. Reports of "visibly used/dirty" sheets, "huge brown, orange, and yellow stains" on bedding and mattresses, "brown droppings," uncleaned bathrooms and microwaves, and extremely poor customer service (including refusal of refunds and unresponsiveness from staff and management) indicate that the actual guest experience can be severely disappointing and fall far short of any advertised "value" or "best." The claim of "renovated side" versus "duped" guests suggests that consistency in room quality is a major issue.
As part of the Americas Best Value Inn chain, this hotel would typically participate in general brand-wide promotions offered by the Vantage Hospitality Group (now part of Sonesta International Hotels Corporation, operating Americas Best Value Inn). While specific, localized promotions might vary, here are the common types of offers you might encounter:
Seasonal Discounts: The brand often offers seasonal sales, such as "Summer Travel Promotions," that provide percentage discounts on room rates for stays during specific periods. These may require booking within certain dates.
Advance Purchase Rates: Booking a certain number of days or weeks in advance might secure a slightly lower rate, though these bookings are often non-refundable.
Group Rates: For those traveling in a larger party or with a sports team, the hotel may offer special group amenities and discounted rates, sometimes including complimentary meeting space if available.
AAA/AARP Member Discounts: Members of organizations like AAA or AARP can often receive a percentage off the standard room rates.
Extended Stay Rates: For guests planning to stay for a longer duration, some properties offer reduced weekly or monthly rates.
"Book Direct" Benefits: While not always a specific discount, booking directly through the Americas Best Value Inn website or by phone might ensure access to the best available rates or flexible cancellation policies compared to third-party sites.
Family Packages: As children aged 11 and under stay free with existing bedding, this is an inherent benefit for families, sometimes amplified by specific family-oriented packages if offered.
Critical Consideration for Texans: Given the extremely negative customer reviews provided, highlighting severe issues with cleanliness, customer service, and management's refusal to issue refunds even for unused rooms, it is strongly advised to approach any "promotions" with extreme caution. The primary concern, according to the reviews, is the basic quality of the stay and the management's conduct, which would overshadow any potential savings from a promotion. It is crucial to read the terms and conditions carefully and consider the highly negative experiences of previous guests before relying on or attempting to utilize any promotions for this particular property. Direct contact with the hotel is recommended to verify any offers, but be prepared for potential difficulties based on past guest feedback.
To inquire about reservations or specific details regarding Americas Best Value Inn San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk, you can use the following contact information. Given the nature of the customer reviews, it is especially important to exercise caution and thoroughly verify any information directly with the property before making any commitments.
Address: 2203 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78203, USA
Phone: (210) 227-2203
Mobile Phone: +1 210-227-2203 (This is the same as the main phone number, just formatted with an international dialing code for clarity.)
It is highly recommended that if you do choose to call, you address any specific concerns gleaned from the reviews directly with the staff or management. Be prepared to ask pointed questions about room conditions, specific amenities like bedding and cleanliness protocols, and their cancellation policies, as these have been major points of contention for past guests.
Based on the overwhelmingly negative and severe customer reviews provided, Americas Best Value Inn San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk is not suitable for locals (or any traveler) seeking a reliable, comfortable, or respectful lodging experience in San Antonio.
While the premise of a "budget-friendly" hotel near downtown San Antonio might initially appeal to Texans looking for a quick and economical stay, the real-world experiences documented by recent guests paint a deeply concerning picture. Accounts of "visibly used/dirty" sheets, "huge brown, orange, and yellow stains" on mattresses, "brown droppings" on bedframes, uncleaned bathrooms, and dirty microwaves indicate a severe lack of basic hygiene and maintenance. These issues go far beyond typical expectations for an economy hotel; they suggest a fundamental failure in providing a safe and sanitary environment for guests.
Furthermore, the critical feedback regarding customer service, particularly the manager's alleged refusal to refund or cancel reservations for unused rooms, and the staff's apparent unresponsiveness, demonstrates a profound disregard for guest satisfaction. For Texans, who value straightforward service and a reasonable quality for their money, this level of reported disservice would be utterly unacceptable and frustrating. The sentiment expressed in one review, stating, "I will NOT recommend this location for a homeless person to stay at for free," and "Please stay away if you don't want to get robbed," is a stark warning that cannot be overlooked.
Even the advertised proximity to downtown attractions is overshadowed by the very real possibility of a compromised stay. A local looking for a convenient overnight or weekend trip would find the stress and discomfort of such conditions far outweigh any perceived savings. Therefore, despite its name and advertised amenities, Americas Best Value Inn San Antonio Downtown Riverwalk, based on this factual customer feedback, is a property that Texans should unequivocally avoid when seeking accommodation in San Antonio.

Apr 22, 2025 · bigram1Our check-in and stay were disappointing and strained, to say the least. [Note: The pictures on the site and some of these reviews are from the renovated side. We believed we were getting THE ROOM WE BOOKED ONLINE. We were clearly duped.] To start, I was charged for parking at the last minute, which wasn't stated when booking or on the initial call where the attendee asked when I was coming and how many beds I wanted after I had already booked and paid for a 2 bed room. When we arrived, I gave the attendee my name and ID he asked if it was me and for my name several times while I was standing in front of him. When we finally went into the room, the sheets (there were no comforters on the beds!) were visibly used/ dirty, had stains, hair, and chip crumbs. When we pulled back the sheets to check for bed bugs (because it looked that bad walking in), things got much worse! There were huge brown, orange, and yellow stains on the bottom sheets, toppers, and mattress and brown "droppings" down both our bedframes! The shower and counters were also not clean. The microwave was dirty, too. I walked over to the office immediately (maybe 5 mins after check-in and asked the attendee if someone could clean our room because it was dirty and his exact words were "What happened to it?" Again, we had just checked in. He grabbed ONE set of sheets (both beds were dirty) and came to the room to look at what I mentioned. I showed him the huge stains and drippings, and he just said, "Oh, yeah! Not too bad, " and rubbed the stains with his bare hands! Then he handed the sheets to me. No help at all. It was awful!
Apr 16, 2025 · KennyI had a great experience during my stay! The staff was incredibly accommodating and made everything easy with clear, friendly communication. You can tell they really care about their guests. I’d definitely recommend this inn to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-run place to stay.
Mar 29, 2025 · Will MatthiessenThe hotel location is in kind of in a shady area. The service was horrible. The hotel keeper at the lobby was extremely rude and disrespectful. When I asked for towels that were missing in the hotel room , he just barged in our room that was occupied to find out that towels were really missing. He not willing to give us any extra towels. The breakfast is horrible with just cereals and milk. No decent breakfast
May 18, 2025 · Pavan KoujalgiExcellent for what it is - a simple, clean room within 10 minutes of downtown San Antonio and the riverwalk. It’s in kind of a rough part of town but the parking lot and room entrances are well-lit. Employees were all very kind. ❤️
