If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The only reason it’s getting one is because of the gentleman working the front desk the night we checked in — he was respectful and tried to help. Unfortunately, he was the only thing professional about this disaster of a hotel. I booked this room well in advance and made it very clear it would be my wife and four children staying. I was told there would be a pull-out bed. We showed up late at night after traveling, tired, and expecting the accommodations we were promised. Instead? No pull-out bed. No extra mattress. Just a sad little rollaway with a BOX SPRING. Not a mattress — a BOX SPRING. Let that sink in. They actually expected one of my kids to sleep on a bare, uncomfortable springboard like it was normal. Let me be crystal clear: I’ve had better nights sleeping in a combat zone while deployed in the Marine Corps than I did at Comfort Suites Alamo River Walk. That’s not exaggeration — that’s truth. This place is a joke. The “comfort” in Comfort Suites must be sarcasm. There was nothing comfortable or suite-like about this experience. Don’t lie to families about your amenities. Don’t act like it’s normal to give kids box springs to sleep on. And don’t call yourself family-friendly if you clearly can’t handle families. To management: You should be ashamed of the condition you left my family in. We expected a safe, restful night — we got stress, disappointment, and a complete lack of hospitality. This was a bait-and-switch. Never again. I’ll be telling every family I know and every Marine I served with: Avoid this place at all costs.

While some experiences at any hotel can vary, the Comfort Suites Alamo/River Walk receives feedback that highlights both its strengths and areas to consider. Guests consistently praise its fantastic location and the convenience it offers. On the other hand, a critical review regarding bedding for additional guests points to the importance of clear communication and setting expectations for specific room arrangements. Our aim here is to provide a balanced and factual overview, drawing from public information and guest insights, to help you make an informed decision. We'll explore the various aspects of this hotel to determine if its prime location and core offerings align with what you're seeking for your next adventure in San Antonio.
The Comfort Suites Alamo/River Walk boasts an exceptionally desirable address at 505 Live Oak St, San Antonio, TX 78202, USA. This location is a major selling point, as it places guests within easy walking distance of some of San Antonio's most famous and frequented attractions.
As its name suggests, the hotel offers excellent proximity to both the iconic Alamo and the beautiful River Walk. Guests frequently highlight that it's a short, pleasant stroll to these must-see landmarks. This means you can wake up, enjoy a complimentary breakfast, and be exploring history or enjoying a leisurely walk along the river in minutes, without the hassle of driving or finding parking in the busy downtown area. Specifically, the official website states the San Antonio River Walk and The Alamo are both approximately 0.64 km (about 0.4 miles) away, putting them well within comfortable walking distance.
Beyond these two main attractions, the hotel's central location also provides convenient access to:
The availability of covered parking, though at a daily fee, is a significant amenity in a downtown location, providing security and protection from the elements for those traveling by car. This prime, central location is arguably one of the strongest features of the Comfort Suites Alamo/River Walk, allowing guests to truly experience the best of San Antonio right outside their door.
Comfort Suites Alamo/River Walk aims to provide a comfortable and convenient stay with a range of services designed for guest satisfaction, typical of the Comfort Suites brand:

For Texans, especially those living in or frequently visiting the San Antonio area, Comfort Suites Alamo/River Walk presents a compelling, albeit with a need for clear communication, lodging option. While one highly critical review highlights a significant issue regarding promised bedding for a family, the numerous positive points and the general nature of the Comfort Suites brand suggest that for many, it can be a suitable choice.
Firstly, the location is undeniably a massive advantage for locals. If you're coming from out of town for a weekend getaway to enjoy the River Walk, attend an event at the Alamodome, or explore the Alamo, being able to walk to these attractions is a huge convenience. It saves on parking fees and the hassle of downtown traffic, which every Texan can appreciate. For San Antonio residents hosting out-of-town guests who want to experience the core of the city, recommending a hotel with such prime accessibility simplifies their visit immensely.
Secondly, the all-suite concept offers more space than traditional hotel rooms. For local families needing a "staycation" or extra room for kids to spread out, or for business travelers needing a separate area to work, this design provides practical comfort. The inclusion of a microwave and refrigerator in every room is also a significant plus, allowing for snack storage and light meal prep, which can be a money-saver for families or those on extended stays.
The fact that the beds and towels are consistently clean, and the housekeeping staff is trustworthy and kind, are major assurances. These are fundamental expectations for any stay, and positive feedback on these points is crucial. The complimentary breakfast, even if "Grab & Go," is another convenient perk that adds value and helps get your day started without an extra stop.
However, it is crucial for locals, especially those with larger families, to explicitly confirm and double-check all bedding arrangements at the time of booking and again upon arrival, particularly concerning rollaway beds or sofa sleepers. The experience of the Marine Corps veteran highlights a critical gap in fulfilling promised accommodations for a family, which can significantly impact a stay. Clear communication with the front desk regarding specific needs for children's sleeping arrangements is paramount to avoid disappointment.
In conclusion, for Texans seeking a conveniently located hotel in downtown San Antonio with competitive pricing, good core amenities, and a generally positive track record for cleanliness and friendly staff, Comfort Suites Alamo/River Walk remains a strong contender. Just remember to be proactive in confirming all your room requirements, especially when traveling with a full house, to ensure your stay is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Jun 22, 2025 · Maurice GarciaWalking distance to Riverwalk and Alamo. Covered parking! Bed and towels are clean! No bed bugs in my room nor any of my coworkers. Very polite helpful staff. Quiet inside hotel. Breakfast is pretty good. The pool is lovely although quite small. There is a hot tub. My view of San Antonio at night included the Tower and was actually kinda pretty. The location is fantastic for the price!! Parking is ample. I stayed here two weeks and enjoyed every bit of it! Thank you, to all the staff. Housekeeping is trustworthy and kind. Oh and there is a safe in most of the rooms.
May 18, 2025 · Emily HarrisNot a bad hotel to stay at. It’s a little outdated but it’s cheap so what do you expect. Room was perfectly fine. Beds were clean. Bathroom was clean. The only downside I would say is it’s right by the highway so you can hear the cars passing by but at night it’s pretty quiet. We paid 450 for 4 nights plus parking. The hotel is old so yes it’s not gonna look perfect but it’s honestly not a bad hotel to stay at for a good price. The receptionist lady was always sweet to us. Every other day we were there the room service made our bed for us and gave us fresh towels and took our trash out for us. The pool is pretty refreshing as well. It even has a waterfall going into the pool which was neat. It was clean too no bugs in it etc it was very clean and cold so it’s refreshing after you get done walking on a hot day. The hot tub was nice and warm except some of the blowers were barely working but we still enjoyed it and relaxed. Don’t come here if you’re looking for perfection. You’re here to sleep after you go do tourists stuff. Only time we were at our hotel was to sleep or hop in the pool. If you have enough time to walk around your hotel and judge every aspect of it then are you really on vacation?
May 12, 2025 · hunter warwickThe room was great. The sink was clogged, but that should be an easy fix for them. Could have a great view of downtown, 5th floor, but the windows were really dirty. Good breakfast options, friendly staff. And I'm not sure if this is a TX thing or downtown thing, but to park safely near the hotel, you have to pay a daily fee of about $20 or park somewhere downtown.
Apr 26, 2025 · Rik KiWe stayed one night in a king suite. Room was clean, large bathroom, strong and hot shower. I used the fitness center, which is small, neat and clean, had what I needed (treadmill, free weights). I didn't have a chance to use the pool, but it was clean, looked very inviting. The staff was very nice, friendly. Breakfast buffet had plenty: waffles, eggs, different breads, etc. Overall a great value. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I ever visit San Antonio again.
