I have a lot to say...both good and some areas for improvement. I've stayed before under the old owner and I had a great experience then...less so this time. First of all; no bedbugs...and I check very carefully. Second, they are pet friendly and praise God for that! They need to rip out the carpets and replace them they are hideous and stained with cigarette spots. This was my chief complaint...I'm pretty sure they routinely allow smoking in the rooms now...I saw no signs saying to smoke outside and I found the smell in the room between that and the older building smell, it really set off my allergies. The bed wasn't comfortable because it's like most hotels a memory foam and I despise them...they make my back hurt. The owner was friendly and I appreciated the contact free check in and out options... Amenities were basic. Upgrades I strongly recommend; The carpets need to go pronto. There were no hooks for hanging anything even in the bathroom; you can't have too many. The sheets were clean but the mattress protector was covered in long black hairs so it obviously should have been washed between uses... There was just a sheet and the top cover no filler/warmer blanket even on the shelves that's a problem because top covers don't get washed almost ever so I don't prefer to even touch them without gloves typically. With it being spring and cool still there should be an extra blanket in each room. I recommend a small basket in the bathroom for the soaps....they were just scattered on the sink and there was a cheap shampoo but no conditioner. The location is great; I love the area and being up on the hill a bit. The dollar general across the street is super helpful.

The inn is particularly notable for its welcoming policy towards pets, a significant advantage for travelers who wish to bring their furry companions along. This pet-friendly approach is highly appreciated by many guests, making it a go-to choice for those traveling with animals.

Environment and Location

Nestled on a slight hill, Big Oaks Inn enjoys a location that offers a pleasant environment. The name itself suggests a connection to nature, and indeed, guests can step outside to relax under the canopy of oak trees. This outdoor space provides a peaceful setting for enjoying a morning coffee, a casual picnic lunch, or even a grilled dinner. The presence of fire pits out back further enhances the outdoor experience, offering a cozy spot for evening gatherings and stargazing, especially appealing given Coudersport's proximity to the renowned Cherry Springs Dark Skies Park.

The inn's strategic location on Route 6 is a key advantage. It is situated just about 1 mile from downtown Coudersport, making it easy to access local shops, restaurants, and other services. A significant convenience highlighted by guests is the Dollar General store located directly across the street, providing immediate access to everyday necessities, snacks, and forgotten items. This accessibility to essentials enhances the overall guest experience, especially for those on longer stays or who prefer to self-cater for some meals. Beyond immediate conveniences, the inn is well-positioned for exploring broader regional attractions such as Cherry Springs Dark Skies Park, the Susquehanna Trail System, Austin Dam Memorial Park, and the Elliot Ness Museum. UPMC Cole Hospital is also just a quarter-mile west, adding a layer of reassurance for travelers.

Services and Amenities

Big Oaks Inn offers a range of basic amenities designed to ensure a comfortable stay. Each room is equipped with essentials such as Wi-Fi, HD TV, a mini-fridge, coffee maker, air conditioning (A/C), and a microwave. Every room also features a private bathroom. These provisions ensure that guests have the fundamental conveniences for a short or extended stay.

The check-in and check-out processes at Big Oaks Inn are designed for guest convenience, with contact-free options available. This modern approach to hospitality reflects a commitment to efficiency and guest autonomy. The owner, Curtis, is frequently praised by guests for being friendly and easy to coordinate with, contributing to a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

While the inn provides fundamental services, some past guest feedback indicates areas where enhancements could elevate the guest experience. For instance, while sheets are noted as clean, some guests have pointed out that mattress protectors might benefit from more frequent washing. The absence of hooks for hanging items, particularly in bathrooms, and the lack of an extra blanket or warmer filler (beyond a top sheet and top cover) have been mentioned as opportunities for improvement. The provision of a small basket for toiletries and the addition of conditioner alongside shampoo are also small details that could significantly enhance guest comfort.

Features and Distinctive Aspects

The defining features of Big Oaks Inn revolve around its affordability, pet-friendly nature, and practical amenities. It offers a good night's sleep in cozy and clean rooms, focusing on providing a comfortable and essential lodging experience rather than luxury. The reasonable pricing is a consistent highlight for guests, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers, families, and individuals seeking a cost-effective stay in the Coudersport area.

The outdoor fire pits and the presence of stately oak trees contribute to the inn's charm, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy the natural surroundings. This outdoor aspect is particularly appealing for those looking to unwind after a day of exploring Potter County’s outdoor attractions. The ability to bring pets is a huge draw, offering flexibility and peace of mind for animal owners. While some guests have noted the condition of carpets and a potential residual smoking smell, the overall sentiment regarding cleanliness for the essentials like bed linen and the general tidiness of the rooms tends to be positive.

This place is a little gem. Curtis was wonderful to coordinate with for our stay. They are pet friendly and have fire pits out back that you can utilize. The room we had wasn’t extravagant but extremely clean. All the necessities you need. Would definitely stay there again. Pricing is very reasonable as well!

I stayed at the Big Oaks Inn recently with my mom, son & dog. The motel allows pets, which is hard to find. The motel is small but very clean and well run. We experienced car trouble while visiting, and the motel owner couldn’t have been more helpful. Our stay needed to be extended, I needed to find a garage and transportation to & from the garage. Curtis (owner) went above and beyond what we would expect from a busy owner, especially during a holiday weekend! I will definitely visit again. Thank you so much Curtis!

Great location, very clean rooms. AC was ice cold, perfect for a hot summer stay. Water pressure in the shower was perfect. Our room was cleaned daily. Curtis is super kind and genuinely wants everyone to have a great experience. It’s nice and close to all the trails to ride around on. We even had space to park our trailer and RZR at the hotel.
