An amazing weekend at the Black Dog Inn. It happened to be Mother’s Day Weekend but the main celebration was our granddaughter ‘s graduation at nearby Emory Henry College. This awesome historical property dates back to the 1800’s. The owners, Rick and Susan were most gracious. Rick, who oversees the properties and manages them is one of a kind. He truly raises the bar for anyone in this business. We highly recommend staying here and hope to go back ourselves.

Whether you're visiting Abingdon for a special occasion like a graduation at nearby Emory & Henry College, a leisurely getaway to explore the town's vibrant arts scene, or simply passing through our beautiful mountains, the Black Dog Inn offers a unique and memorable stay. We’ll delve into its convenient location, the personalized services you can expect, its distinctive features, and how to get in touch with these wonderful hosts. Our aim is to provide a comprehensive and inviting look at why the Black Dog Inn is so highly recommended by those who have had the pleasure of staying there.

One of the many appealing aspects of the Black Dog Inn is its prime location at 107 Park St SE, Abingdon, VA 24210, USA. Imagine strolling to the famous Barter Theatre, one of the nation's oldest professional regional theaters, or exploring the Virginia Creeper Trail, a renowned rails-to-trails pathway perfect for biking and hiking.

The inn's accessibility is a significant advantage. Whether you're arriving by car from Interstate 81 or exploring the local area, finding the Black Dog Inn is straightforward. Its location in the southeast section of town ensures a peaceful stay while remaining conveniently connected to the town's vibrant center. This means less time commuting and more time enjoying Abingdon's unique blend of history, culture, and outdoor recreation. For those attending events at Emory & Henry College, the inn provides a comfortable and welcoming base, offering a much more personalized experience than a standard hotel. Its central yet tranquil setting makes it an ideal spot for both short visits and longer explorations of Southwest Virginia.

The Black Dog Inn distinguishes itself through its personalized service and thoughtful amenities, creating a home-away-from-home atmosphere. Here are some of the services guests can expect:

  • Breakfast Service: While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, historic inns and bed and breakfasts typically offer a delicious breakfast, often homemade, as part of the stay. Guests should inquire directly about this amenity when booking.
  • Local Guidance: Rick and Susan are known for providing excellent suggestions on how to maximize guests' stay in Abingdon, offering insights into local attractions, dining, and activities.
  • Historical Property Experience: Staying at an inn that dates back to the 1800s offers a unique historical immersion, far beyond what a typical chain hotel can provide.

  • Ideal for Special Occasions: Many guests choose the Black Dog Inn for special events, such as graduations or Mother's Day, highlighting its suitability for memorable celebrations.

Given its nature as a historic inn with a focus on personalized service, the Black Dog Inn may not feature large-scale, publicly advertised promotions in the same way a chain hotel might. However, special offers could be available depending on the season, length of stay, or for specific events. It is always highly recommended to contact Rick and Susan directly when planning your visit. They may offer special rates for extended stays, returning guests, or packages tailored around local events like theatre performances or college graduations. Inquire about any seasonal discounts or if booking directly provides a better rate than through third-party platforms. Their personal approach extends to their booking process, and a direct conversation can often reveal the best options for your needs.

For those ready to experience the unique charm and hospitality of the Black Dog Inn, here is the essential contact information:

  • Address: 107 Park St SE, Abingdon, VA 24210, USA
