Basic suite (bed, bath, small fridge, microwave, kitchen sink). Nothing special, we were required to stay there on base. Like any old building, there are regular old building issues. There were no plates or silverware in kitchenette. If you're there for a while, I would bring disposables. Housekeeping tidied/ cleaned the towels and bedding daily [if the do not disturb was not up]. There was a good sized pantry in the kitchen closet with an iron and ironing board. We had issues our second night because the fire alarm went off multiple times for 30-60min a piece. We intentionally slept through the 2nd and 3rd time after finding out there were wiring issues. The front desk was apologetic the next day and said they were getting it fixed. No more alarms the rest of the week! There was a small breakfast area that was very appreciated. It included: coffee, tea, chocolate, yogurt, bagels, butter, cream cheese, individual servings of different cereals, milk, and individually package breakfast pastry and muffins. The breakfast was a very nice amenity that I was not expecting. It was a short walk away in the main lodging building. Watch out on the sidewalk closest to the main lodging. There was a significant drop that tripped both my husband and I at different times. There was a second unlevel sidewalk that tripped me about 20 ft away but I didn't get a picture

Bldg. 393 Introduce

Howdy, Texans! For our esteemed military personnel and their families, as well as official visitors to Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) – Randolph, finding suitable accommodation isn't just about comfort; it's often a matter of protocol and convenience. When you're on Temporary Duty (TDY), Permanent Change of Station (PCS), or simply visiting loved ones serving our nation, on-base lodging provides a unique and often necessary solution. It offers proximity to duty stations, a secure environment, and a sense of community that off-base hotels simply can't replicate.

Today, we’re focusing on one of the lodging options available right on JBSA Randolph: Bldg. 393. While it might not carry a fancy commercial hotel brand name, it serves a crucial role in supporting our military community. Guests who stay here are often required to be on base, and the lodging aims to provide a functional and supportive environment for their specific needs. As you'll discover, while it offers fundamental amenities, it delivers on its promise of providing a necessary and appreciative base for those serving or visiting Randolph.

JBSA Randolph, often referred to as the "Showplace of the Air Force," is a significant installation in the San Antonio metropolitan area, playing a vital role in military training and operations. This article will provide you with a clear, engaging, and factual overview of Bldg. 393, detailing its location and accessibility within the base, the essential services and features it provides, and important contact information for booking. While traditional "promotions" may not apply in the same way as commercial hotels, we'll discuss the value and purpose it serves. Our goal is to equip you, as a local Texan user connected to the military community, with the insights needed to understand what to expect from Bldg. 393 for your next on-base stay. Let's delve into the details of this essential lodging facility.

Bldg. 393 is located at 10561 A St E, JBSA Randolph, TX 78150, USA. This address places it directly within the confines of Joint Base San Antonio – Randolph, a major U.S. Air Force installation situated northeast of San Antonio. Its on-base location means that access is restricted to authorized personnel, including active-duty military, retirees, dependents, and Department of Defense civilians and contractors with proper identification and base access credentials.

Being on-base provides unparalleled convenience for those whose duties or visits require presence at Randolph. Guests are within a short walking distance or quick drive to various base facilities, including duty stations, dining facilities, the exchange, commissary, fitness centers, and other support services. This eliminates the need for daily commutes through civilian traffic, saving time and stress. For those attending training, graduations, or working on base, the proximity is invaluable.

While guests may be required to stay on base, the broader San Antonio area remains accessible for leisure. Major San Antonio attractions, including the River Walk, The Alamo, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and SeaWorld, are typically within a 20-40 minute drive from the base, depending on traffic conditions and specific destination. The towns surrounding JBSA Randolph, such as Universal City and Schertz, offer additional dining and shopping options just outside the base gates. It's important to note that while the location offers security and convenience on base, navigating sidewalks, particularly between Bldg. 393 and the main lodging building, may require caution due to uneven surfaces, as noted by some guests.

  • Secure, on-base environment.
  • Access to general base amenities and services for authorized personnel (e.g., fitness centers, MWR facilities, exchange, commissary).

  • Good-sized pantry in the kitchen closet.
  • Iron and ironing board available in each suite.
  • Rooms designed for essential, functional stays.
  • Quiet environment within the rooms, despite potential "old building issues" or occasional external disruptions (like fire alarms, which were promptly addressed).
  • Secure and controlled access location within JBSA Randolph.
  • On-base lodging is often a requirement for military personnel on TDY or PCS.
  • Provides a convenient base for those working or visiting JBSA Randolph, offering proximity to duty stations and base facilities.

As an on-base lodging facility serving Joint Base San Antonio – Randolph, Bldg. 393 operates differently from commercial hotels when it comes to "promotions." Its primary function is to provide essential accommodation for military personnel on official orders (TDY, PCS), and their families, as well as retirees, DOD civilians, and authorized guests. Therefore, standard commercial discounts or promotional packages typically seen at hotels are not offered.

The value inherent in staying at Bldg. 393 lies in its secure, on-base location and its adherence to government per diem rates for military travel. These rates are designed to be cost-effective for service members and are often a required lodging choice. For military personnel, booking through official channels (such as the Air Force Inns reservation system or by contacting the Randolph Lodging Office directly) ensures compliance with travel regulations and access to these appropriate rates. Any "specials" would generally be related to military-specific benefits rather than broad public promotions. It is always recommended to contact the Randolph Lodging Office for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding reservations, eligibility, and any specific policies.

For locals in Texas, particularly those connected to the military community, Bldg. 393 at JBSA Randolph serves a highly specific and suitable purpose. Its primary suitability stems from its secure, on-base location, which is often a mandatory lodging requirement for military personnel on official temporary duty (TDY) or during a Permanent Change of Station (PCS). For these individuals and their families, staying on base provides unparalleled convenience to duty assignments, training facilities, and essential base amenities like the Exchange and Commissary, significantly reducing daily commute times and simplifying logistics during often stressful transitions.

While the accommodations are described as "basic suites," they offer critical features for extended stays, such as a small fridge, microwave, and kitchen sink. This kitchenette setup, even without full dishware, allows for basic meal preparation, which can be a significant cost-saver compared to constantly eating out, a valuable benefit for military families managing budgets. The inclusion of a pantry, iron, and ironing board further enhances the functionality for those staying for a while.

The complimentary breakfast, though simple, is a "very nice amenity" that guests appreciate, providing a convenient start to the day without an extra cost. Furthermore, the dedication of the front desk staff, who are noted for being "apologetic" and proactive in addressing issues like the fire alarm incident, demonstrates a commitment to guest comfort, even within the constraints of an older military facility. While there might be "old building issues" or occasional maintenance needs, these are addressed by on-base personnel. The quietness of the rooms also contributes to a restful stay. For Texans who are part of the military community, or supporting those who are, Bldg. 393 offers a functional, secure, and cost-effective lodging solution directly where they need to be, providing a sense of stability and support during their time at JBSA Randolph.
