Do not be deceived by the reviews. There were stains on the pillows, the bathtub had pieces ripped out, and floor was dirty. Felt unsafe and weirded out the whole time, tried to stick it out but there were very prominent stains on the pillow. We were given a refund after the manager asked that the rooms were clean enough. Makes me think that maybe they don’t clean well, as there was a mess prior to us being there. Staff was nice, but the reviews lied and the room was low quality. Keep in mind.
Howdy, Texas travelers! When your journey brings you to the vibrant San Antonio area, particularly the Northeast side and Universal City, finding a place to rest your head that fits your budget and travel needs is essential. Whether you’re visiting family at Randolph Air Force Base, exploring the local Universal City charm, or simply passing through along your Texas adventures, a hotel that offers practicality and a good night's sleep is key.
Today, we’re taking a candid look at Super 8 by Wyndham Universal City. As your local content writer, my goal is to provide you, our fellow Texans, with a clear, engaging, and factual overview of this hotel. We'll cover its location, the services it aims to provide, and crucial insights from recent guest experiences. It’s important to present a balanced picture, so you can make an informed decision and set realistic expectations for your stay in Universal City.
Super 8 by Wyndham Universal City is an economy-focused hotel that operates under the widely recognized Super 8 brand, part of the larger Wyndham Hotels & Resorts family. Situated in Universal City, Texas, it aims to provide straightforward, no-frills accommodation for budget-conscious travelers. The Super 8 brand is generally known for offering basic comforts like complimentary breakfast and free Wi-Fi, making it a popular choice for road trippers and those seeking simple, convenient lodging.
However, it's crucial for prospective guests to be aware that while the hotel belongs to a well-known chain, individual property conditions can vary. Recent customer reviews for this specific Super 8 by Wyndham Universal City highlight significant concerns regarding cleanliness, room maintenance, and overall quality. These candid insights suggest that while the staff may be friendly and accommodating, the physical state of the hotel and its rooms might not meet every traveler's expectations for hygiene and comfort. Therefore, this overview will emphasize factual details and address the feedback directly, ensuring you have a complete picture before considering this as your next stay.
Super 8 by Wyndham Universal City is conveniently located at 200 Palisades Dr, Universal City, TX 78148, USA. This address places it strategically within Universal City, offering accessibility to several key points of interest in the Northeast San Antonio metropolitan area.
For those traveling by road, its proximity to major highways ensures relatively easy access from various parts of Texas. The hotel offers free self-parking on-site, which is a significant advantage for guests with their own vehicles, including space for RVs, buses, and trucks. This is especially beneficial for road trippers and larger travel groups.
One of the most notable features of its location is its closeness to Randolph Air Force Base, a major military installation. This makes it a practical option for military personnel and their families visiting the base. While its name suggests a connection to "Universal City" attractions in a broader sense, it's distinct from the "Universal Studios" theme park, which is located in California. However, local attractions such as the Universal City Dog Park (0.7 mi), Regal Live Oak (1.3 mi), and Olympia Hills Golf Course (1.6 mi) are all very close by. Larger shopping destinations like Rolling Oaks Mall are also within a reasonable driving distance (3.8 miles). San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is approximately 15 minutes away by car, providing a convenient commute for air travelers.
While the location offers accessibility to various points, guests should be aware that it might be in an area with some ambient noise, as is common with hotels near main roads or in busy small cities.

For Texans considering a visit to the Universal City area of San Antonio, Super 8 by Wyndham Universal City presents itself as a highly budget-conscious option. Its primary suitability for local users lies in its convenient location and its aim to provide very basic, affordable lodging. If your trip is purely functional – perhaps a short overnight stay, an early morning flight out of San Antonio International Airport, or a visit to Randolph Air Force Base – and your budget is the absolute top priority, this hotel’s price point might seem attractive.
The hotel offers essential amenities like free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and complimentary parking, which are always valuable perks. The staff, as noted in reviews, generally provides prompt and friendly service, which can certainly make the check-in process smoother. However, it is paramount for any Texas local considering this hotel to manage expectations very carefully based on recent guest feedback. The extensive concerns regarding cleanliness, the condition of the rooms (especially the bathrooms), and perceived security issues indicate that the physical state of the property may be a significant deterrent for many.
Ultimately, Super 8 by Wyndham Universal City might be suitable for a very specific type of traveler: one who prioritizes the lowest possible cost, needs a quick place to sleep near local military bases or transit routes, and is prepared for potential compromises on room quality and overall comfort. For those seeking a higher standard of cleanliness, maintenance, and a greater sense of security, it would be advisable to consider other options in the Universal City or San Antonio area, even if they come at a slightly higher price.

May 08, 2025 · Harry InkerOur stay here was nice enough but it goes to show that you get what you pay for. The lady at the front office was really nice though, she checked me in promptly and let me check in prior to 3 pm which was nice. She also forgot to return my ID to me and she came up to the room to return it instead of calling me and asking me to go to the office. That was super nice. The rooms are not your luxury hotels and the appearance and cleaning leave something to be desired as you can see from the pictures. The floor is laminate and was not clean. The bathroom tub is the worst I have ever seen. Definitely doesn't make you want to sit in it and enjoy a bath. I had to not look at it even stepping into it for a shower. The paint on it is falling off, there is a calking around it but the job definitely was not made by expert hands. The door has an extra security adapter but you can tell it was removed and reinstalled higher. Yes, I put it on then then tugged at the door. That security addition is NOT going to stop anyone if they push the door and want to get in. There were no tissues in the room. Had to call and ask for some, they said we had to go to the office to make requests like that. We went over to the office and they did give us one but really? The house keeper told us she didn't have any. The t.v. was not working, had to call someone to come and set it up for us. The hair dryer was not working either, called it in and someone came over to take a look. The repair person that came over said the owners were out of town and they did not leave the key to the supply room. He said he was going to remove one from another room and put it in our room. However, the technician that came over to fix it was very friendly and professional. He got it up and running fast but the point is . . . too many things that needed attention and the motel is in super bad shape. On my way out I stepped into one of the other rooms being cleaned and it was in the same shape as the one we stayed in. Won’t be staying here again for sure …
Mar 05, 2025 · Lidia ToscanoThe rooms are at a decent price, fairly well located on the north side of San Antonio house cleaning could do a better job there were a couple details when we first arrived and got into our room. For some reason the lights flickered on and off several times and the AC cut out we had to power the AC back on a couple times but after that everything was okay.
May 25, 2025 · Beyond the BorderThis hotel was horrible. I reserved a handicap accessible room. However, this being a large hotel with four buildings they only have two handicap accessible rooms. They failed to inform me of this before my arrival. Their beds are over 3ft high and not at all accessible for my elderly wheelchair bound mother. The clerk's response to me asking for a different room was that all beds were the same height so I could take it or leave it. They then refused to give me any kind of refund for a room that was unusable. I had to find another hotel on short notice and at additional cost. I will be recommending that everyone avoid this location when heading to the San Antonio area.
Jun 03, 2025 · Southern WaidI think that that super 8 by Wyndham in Universal City was the dirtiest, filthiest hotel I've ever been in! Floors, baseboard, the entire room was filthy! The tub was black! We had to put a towel down in the tub so our feet wouldn't touch the tub. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am!! I was offered another room, however, my instinct told me it would be the same!!! So I didn't take them up on the offer. I will not be returning.
