Great Value Inn Introduce

Howdy, Texans! When you're searching for a place to stay in the sprawling San Antonio area, especially if you're keeping an eye on your budget, you might come across the Great Value Inn. Located at 12810 I-35, San Antonio, TX 78233, this hotel presents a bit of a tale of two experiences, based on recent customer feedback. While some past reviews paint a concerning picture, newer comments suggest significant improvements, particularly regarding renovations and a dedicated manager. It's crucial for local users to understand both sides of the coin to make an informed decision about whether this "Great Value" lives up to its name for their next visit to the Alamo City.

The Great Value Inn, despite its name often suggesting a certain level of consistent quality, appears to be a property that has undergone a transformation. Initially, some guests reported deeply unsatisfactory conditions, including cleanliness issues, lack of amenities like working TVs, and even concerns about safety. However, more recent reviews indicate a conscious effort to improve the guest experience, specifically mentioning "remodeled rooms and floors" and the presence of an attentive manager, Lynette, who is actively working to ensure guest satisfaction. This suggests the hotel is striving to overcome its past reputation and offer a more comfortable and reliable stay. Properties like this typically cater to budget-conscious travelers, those needing an extended stay, or individuals simply looking for a convenient stop along the interstate without breaking the bank. The focus seems to be on providing essential comforts and a clean environment at an affordable price point.

The Great Value Inn is strategically located at 12810 I-35, San Antonio, TX 78233, USA. This address places it directly alongside Interstate 35, a major highway that runs straight through the heart of Texas and San Antonio. While the mailing address is San Antonio, it's actually within the Live Oak area, which is a northeastern suburb of San Antonio. This prime roadside location offers excellent visibility and incredibly convenient access for travelers driving through or around the city.

Being on I-35 means guests have direct and easy access to San Antonio's extensive highway network. This allows for relatively quick travel to various parts of the city. For instance, the popular Forum at Olympia Parkway shopping center and Methodist Hospital Northeast are just a short drive away. Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph is also easily accessible, making it a viable option for military personnel or visitors to the base. While downtown San Antonio, home to the River Walk and the Alamo, is a longer drive (approximately 15-20 minutes depending on traffic), the direct I-35 route makes it manageable. The surrounding Live Oak area offers a variety of dining options, including a Whataburger right next door (as mentioned in a review, ensuring "good food" nearby), and other commercial services. Public transportation options directly from the hotel might be limited, but the location is ideal for those traveling by car, with ample on-site parking being a key benefit of an interstate-side motel.

Based on the nature of a "Great Value Inn" and insights from recent guest reviews, this hotel offers essential services aimed at providing a practical and comfortable stay. While it's not a full-service resort, it focuses on the fundamental amenities that matter most to budget-conscious travelers. It's important to remember that while the hotel appears to be undergoing improvements, the quality of service delivery can vary.

Services Offered (Based on standard budget hotel offerings and recent positive reviews):

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: High-speed wireless internet access is typically available throughout the hotel, including in guest rooms.
  • 24-Hour Front Desk: The presence of staff, including the mentioned manager Lynette, suggests round-the-clock assistance for check-in, check-out, and guest inquiries.
  • Free Self-Parking: Ample complimentary on-site parking is a significant advantage, especially for those traveling by car.
  • Daily Housekeeping: As indicated by the positive review mentioning "fresh linen" and rooms being "cleaned daily," housekeeping services are provided.
  • Microwave and Refrigerator in Rooms: These are common amenities in value-oriented hotels, allowing guests to store and prepare snacks or simple meals.
  • Air Conditioning/Heating: Essential for comfort in Texas, rooms are equipped with climate control.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: Many Great Value Inn properties are pet-friendly, which would be a key service for Texans traveling with their animals (it's always best to confirm this directly with the hotel and any associated fees).
  • Vending Machines: For quick snacks and drinks, vending machines are usually available on-site.

The recent customer reviews for Great Value Inn highlight a noticeable shift in guest experience, emphasizing several key features that contribute to a more positive stay, despite past negative feedback.

Features / Highlights:

  • Recent Remodeling: A significant highlight is the reported "remodeled room and floors," indicating a conscious effort to update and improve the property's appearance and comfort. This directly addresses past concerns about outdated or unclean conditions.
  • Improved Cleanliness: The positive review explicitly states the hotel is "much nicer and cleaner" after the remodel, a crucial feature for any accommodation.
  • Attentive Management: The manager, Lynette, is singled out for being "great" and "constantly walking around the motel checking on people bringing fresh linen and help people out when needed." This hands-on approach to guest satisfaction is a strong positive highlight.
  • Good Value for Money (Post-Remodel): With the improvements in cleanliness and modernization, the hotel now seems to offer better value for its price point, making it a more attractive budget option.
  • Convenient Location on I-35: Its direct frontage on a major interstate provides excellent accessibility for travelers.
  • Proximity to Whataburger: The mention of being "next to Whataburger" is a small but practical highlight for many Texans, ensuring easy access to a beloved local food staple.
  • Sense of Safety (Implied by current reviews): The recent positive feedback, contrasting with past concerns, suggests an improved overall environment where guests feel more secure.

As a budget-friendly and independent (or semi-independent) hotel, the Great Value Inn might not always offer complex, widely advertised promotional packages like larger chains. However, direct contact and checking popular booking sites can often reveal the best available rates and simple deals.

Potential Promotions or Special Offers (Common for this type of hotel):

  • Extended Stay Rates: Given its nature as a value inn, it likely offers competitive weekly or monthly rates for longer visits, appealing to those needing temporary housing.
  • Online Booking Discounts: Sometimes, booking directly through a hotel's simple website (if available) or through major online travel agencies can yield slight discounts or "best rate guarantees."
  • Seasonal or Off-Peak Rates: Pricing may fluctuate with demand, potentially offering lower rates during quieter seasons in San Antonio.
  • Walk-In Specials: Occasionally, motels on major interstates might have last-minute "walk-in" specials to fill vacant rooms.
  • AAA or AARP Discounts: It's always worth asking if they offer discounts for members of these organizations.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on rates and any specific offers, it is always best to contact the Great Value Inn directly using the provided phone numbers.

Stayed here a few times couple years ago. Not so good then. They have just remodeled the room and floors through out. Much nicer and cleaner. The manager Lynette was great she is constantly walking around the motel checking on people bringing fresh linen and help i people out when needed. I would stay again. Next to whaterburger also so there is always good food.

Comfortable, pet friendly and spacious. Sure the color scheme is wierd but they gave me a discount because a room was missing the baseboard and was u see renovations and was the last room available. Everything was fine besides that. I didn't see any bugs here the floors were clean as were the sheets.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! My Fiance and I checked into the hotel because the outside looks decent. DO NOT BE FOOLED! They charged my fiance 80.00 for the night, when we went our room, there was no door knob.. We had to ask for the maintenance guy to open our door. When he did, he told us that the door only locked from the inside. When we walked into the room, the entire room smelt like smoke. In the toilet there were cigarettes also the toilet wouldn't flush. The bathtub had a yellow stain across the tub. The mirror was cracked, our tv was broken, and the satellite wasn't programmed at all. But the worst part was when we were about to go to bed and I lifted the covers and there were dried blood stains!! Worst experience ever.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I cannot believe this place is still open. There was hair in the microwave, fridge, faucet in the sink, I went and bought my own sheets and never even unmade the bed. Told us to pay cash for $20 off.. No proof that we stayed here. Now I get it. 42 roaches in the room with me. I'm making it my personal goal to have these doors locked for good. $125 a night???? No way they are getting away with that. And by the way, sleep with one eye open. You will need it.
