I honestly have nothing negative to say about our stay in the Brownsville Road house. We traveled from Florida to Pittsburgh for the football game. Our family occupied all 3 rooms for 4 nights and it could not have been a better experience. Breakfast cooked to order and served by the host in the dining room each morning. The house itself is cozy and accommodating. Location is also convenient with regards to local shopping/dining. The host went out of his way each morning to clear a path in the snow, spreading salt on the driveway and walkways. He also cleared the snow off of our cars. I would definitely recommend a stay if you're in the Pittsburgh area!
For those searching on the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform in the Pittsburgh area, the Brownsville Road House: Bed & Breakfast presents a unique and highly-regarded alternative to conventional hotels. Located at 3406 Brownsville Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15227, USA, this establishment can be contacted at (412) 885-1242 or via mobile at +1 412-885-1242. Far from a standard chain hotel, this Bed & Breakfast offers a distinct charm, personalized service, and a rich historical background, which are often sought after by travelers desiring a more intimate and memorable lodging experience.
The environment of the Brownsville Road House is steeped in history and characterized by a cozy, accommodating atmosphere. It is described as a "well-known manor and landmark" nestled in Pittsburgh's south hills, along the historic Brownsville Road, which dates back to the 1700s as a main thoroughfare into the city. The house itself has stood for over a century, built in 1909-10 in a Craftsman style, and has even been designated as a historical landmark. This historical significance contributes to its "unique grandeur, tranquility, and idyllic setting." Legend even suggests that the land once hosted George Washington in 1784. The interior is decorated in an early 20th-century motif, featuring antiques, period furnishings, and artworks that reflect its unique story, providing a rich backdrop for a stay. While located in a safe neighborhood, it offers a balance of being "close to the city, but not its congestion," providing convenient access to Pittsburgh's universities, museums, Station Square, and the downtown area, while maintaining a quieter, more residential feel. This blend of accessibility and peacefulness is a significant environmental advantage.
The services and features at Brownsville Road House are a cornerstone of its appeal, heavily centered around personalized hospitality. A standout feature, consistently praised by guests, is the "breakfast cooked to order and served by the host in the dining room each morning." This full-course, homemade traditional American breakfast, often served by the owner in period attire, goes far beyond the typical continental offerings of many hotels, providing a delicious and memorable start to the day. The dining room itself is designed for comfort, with private individual tables and a fireplace, and even includes a 24/7 self-serve coffee and tea station, an ice machine, and a refrigerator stocked with bottled water and soft drinks, available for guest use. This attention to detail in providing refreshments is highly valued.
The accommodations comprise three uniquely decorated rooms with private baths, including the Lincoln Suite (a two-room suite with capacity for two queen beds, private bath, adjoining living room with fireplace and porch), the Nautical Room (queen bed with fireplace and private spa-inspired bath with a large claw foot soaking tub), and the Blue Room (queen bed with fireplace and private spacious bath). Each room is meticulously furnished with "Comfy" luxury linens and "My Pillows," ensuring a restful night's sleep. Beyond the main rooms, there's also a Manor Apartment available for weekly or monthly rental, featuring a full bath, kitchen, living room, laundry, and a separate private entrance. This offers a more extended stay option with additional amenities.
The common areas further enhance the guest experience. There's a living room with a grand fireplace, ample seating, and a working Victrola with vintage records, adding to the historical ambiance. A library with a fireplace and comfortable seating invites guests to relax with a book. A sitting/game room with a PC for guests is also provided. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, ensuring guests remain connected. On-site parking is included, which is a practical convenience, especially given the personalized attention guests receive regarding their vehicles, such as the host clearing snow off cars and driveways, as highlighted in reviews.
The personal touches provided by the host, Mr. Cranmer, and his staff are frequently highlighted as exceptional. Guests describe the staff as "polite and have a warmth about them that makes you feel welcomed and right at home." Mr. Cranmer's dedication to guest comfort is evident in actions like personally providing a fire in the living room and clearing snow from guests' cars and pathways before they even woke up. His "local insight of what's to do and see around town" is also greatly appreciated, offering a concierge-like service that enhances exploration of Pittsburgh. This level of hospitality fosters a "cozy and accommodating" atmosphere that makes guests feel like family rather than mere patrons.
Promotional information for a unique establishment like Brownsville Road House: Bed & Breakfast often centers on its distinct character and personalized experience rather than broad discount campaigns. Its historical significance, including being the setting for the "best-selling" book "The Demon Of Brownsville Road," is a unique promotional angle that attracts curious travelers. The opportunity to "come and experience the now 'tranquil' house and meet the author" (Mr. Cranmer, who is the proprietor) is a compelling feature. While specific ongoing discounts weren't provided in the prompt, the intrinsic value lies in the bespoke, attentive service and the charming, historic environment. Pricing is typically competitive for the bed and breakfast category, with options ranging from approximately $251 - $299 per night, and weekly discounts are available for the Manor Apartment. Guests can typically book directly through their website or popular booking platforms that list unique accommodations.
In conclusion, for those utilizing "Hotels Near Of Me" to find a lodging experience that transcends the ordinary, the Brownsville Road House: Bed & Breakfast at 3406 Brownsville Rd in Pittsburgh offers an exceptional choice. Its historical setting, elegantly maintained rooms, and comprehensive amenities, including a custom-cooked breakfast, contribute to a truly comfortable stay. The distinguishing factor, however, is the unparalleled hospitality provided by Mr. Cranmer and his staff, who ensure guests feel genuinely welcomed and cared for, going above and beyond typical hotel service. This combination of a quaint, historically rich environment and deeply personalized service makes the Brownsville Road House a highly recommended destination for visitors to the Pittsburgh area seeking warmth, character, and a memorable experience.
