My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Camden Harbour Inn after getting married in the area. We had to postpone our honeymoon by a few weeks and decided at the last minute to take the day after our wedding to relax, and this was the perfect place to do just that. In today’s age of online booking, I wasn’t sure what to expect walking up to the front desk on the day of our stay without a reservation, but I was greeted with a great rate on a great room, and some nice touches to commemorate our special occasion to boot. We also enjoyed a fantastic meal at the restaurant on site, and look forward to visiting again soon!

Located at 83 Bay View St, Camden, ME 04843, USA, this historic Relais & Châteaux property offers a sophisticated blend of classic New England elegance and modern European design, providing an unforgettable experience for discerning travelers. Its prime location in downtown Camden means guests are within easy walking distance of the town's vibrant array of restaurants, shops, and amenities, while enjoying breathtaking views of Camden Harbor, Penobscot Bay, and the surrounding mountains.

Environment: Historic Charm with Modern Flair

The Camden Harbour Inn is housed within a charming, classy historical building that has graced Camden's landscape for over a century, originally a farmhouse built in 1871. This gracious New England Victorian inn, with its traditional white clapboard exterior, is perched atop a hill, offering stunning 180-degree views of Penobscot Bay, Camden Harbor, and the verdant mountains. While the exterior maintains its historic integrity, the interiors reveal a captivating imprint of modern European design, a distinct departure from a purely classic New England vibe. The lobby, for instance, is described as colorful, eclectic, and fun, creating an inviting yet sophisticated atmosphere. Throughout the property, guests will find a curated selection of designer furniture and fine art, adding to the luxurious ambiance. The grounds themselves are meticulously maintained, providing a serene backdrop for relaxation. Imagine sipping a drink on the wrap-around porch, taking in the shimmering views of the harbor dotted with lush islands, or cozying up by a fireplace in one of the comfortable lounges. The overall environment is one of refined elegance and tranquility, perfectly complementing the natural beauty of its coastal setting.

Services: Personalized Luxury and Attentive Care

The Camden Harbour Inn is celebrated for its exceptional and highly personalized service, often described as attentive and friendly. Guests consistently praise the staff for going above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay. The commitment to guest experience begins upon arrival, with guests sometimes greeted in the parking lot and escorted to the front desk, then introduced by name before being shown to their room where a welcome note and keepsake await. A highlight of the stay is the complimentary champagne breakfast served à la carte at Natalie's, the Inn's award-winning onsite restaurant. This gourmet offering is a significant step above average hotel breakfasts. Additionally, guests are invited to a complimentary glass of sparkling Prosecco at Natalie's bar upon arrival. For a touch of nightly indulgence, turndown service is provided with premium chocolates, and some guests even receive a pillow filled with locally grown lavender. The Inn also features the Juliana Lounge, offering complimentary snacks, pastries, coffee, and tea throughout the day, along with a selection of magazines and newspapers. Concierge service is readily available to assist guests in planning their explorations of Camden and the wider Maine coast. For relaxation, the Inn offers a spa with a full menu of massages and treatments, including deep-tissue, hot stone, sports, and Swedish massages, as well as couples treatment rooms and prenatal massages. Room service is available for added convenience. The Inn also provides free Wi-Fi internet access throughout the property and complimentary onsite self-parking.

Features: Exquisite Rooms and Culinary Excellence

The Camden Harbour Inn offers 20 distinct guest rooms and suites, all unique in design and layout, named after former Dutch colonial territories and subtly incorporating design gestures towards their eponyms. These accommodations range from comfortable to truly expansive, ensuring a luxurious experience. Each room typically features a plush king-size feather bed adorned with the finest linens, ensuring a restful night's sleep. Many rooms boast breathtaking harbor or sea views, with some suites offering private balconies. Luxurious private bathrooms are equipped with spa-quality Molton Brown products, fluffy bathrobes, comfortable slippers, and often a relaxing rain shower or shower-tub combination, with some rooms including a jacuzzi tub. In-room amenities include flat-screen TVs, honor mini-bars, Illy espresso makers, and complimentary soft drinks and snacks in the refrigerator. Some Grand Suites even include an Apple iPad and wet bars. While the historical nature of the building means there are steep stairs and no elevator, an ADA accessible room is available on the first floor with a walk-in shower and wheelchair accessibility, with an accessible entrance through the restaurant. The culinary cornerstone of the Inn is Natalie's, an AAA Four Diamond and MICHELIN Guide recommended restaurant. It's renowned for its sophisticated modern French cuisine with a pronounced New England accent, showcasing the bounty of Maine, including its famous lobster. Natalie's offers an à la carte menu, lobster tasting menu, and five-course tasting menus, paired with an extraordinary wine selection. The vibrant dining room and wraparound porch provide postcard-worthy views of the marina and mountains, enhancing the dining experience. The bar at Natalie's specializes in expertly prepared traditional and contemporary cocktails, along with a bar menu of light international selections.

Highly recommend for a Coastal Maine getaway! My husband and I stayed here for a November weekend… We had a comfortable stay with a nice view from our room! We also had a wonderful dinner at Natalie’s. Pros -Charming, classy historical building -Excellent location within walking distance to all of the restaurants, shops, and amenities downtown -Comfortable beds -Turndown service -Friendly staff -Great dinner at Natalie’s -Cozy lounge and fireplace Cons -Steep stairs (this wasn’t an issue for us but it could be for some guests) -Lobby is colorful, eclectic and fun, but some might prefer a more classic New England vibe -Breakfast is average—Stroll downtown to Buttermilk Kitchen for a great breakfast!

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend the Camden Harbour Inn. We chose this Relais & Châteaux property to celebrate my husband’s birthday, having just been married at another Relais & Châteaux the month prior. The experience fell far short of expectations. The room décor was uninspired, the main furniture piece was a generic black IKEA dresser. Upon booking, they promised a complimentary birthday dessert delivered to our room, but it never arrived. The most frustrating issue, however, was the lack of transparency about their pet policy. When I first called, they confirmed that bringing my dog was fine. Only when I called again to reconfirm did they mention the staggering $250 pet fee—at which point we were past the cancellation window. Given that this fee was never disclosed in my initial inquiry and isn’t listed on their website, I requested that they waive it. They repeatedly claimed to be “checking with the owners” but conveniently emailed their refusal only after we had checked out, avoiding any in-person discussion. Overall, the property does not meet the standards of a Relais & Châteaux and was a disappointing choice. In response to the reply from the property: I appreciate that you record your calls, as they will confirm my experience. On 11/2, I called to inquire about the pet policy and was not informed of any fee. On 11/7, I called again to confirm I was bringing my pet and was then informed of the fee by the manager, who said they would check with the owner and get back to me. By that time, it was already past the cancellation window. On 11/8, while on my way to the hotel, I still hadn’t received a response, so I called again and was told they were still waiting on the owner’s decision. This response only reinforces my concern about the lack of transparency and customer service. If a charge isn't communicated upfront, it should be waived—basic customer service principles. I hope this feedback helps improve future guest experiences.

This is a delightful gem. The food at Natalie's was amazing, including the generous free breakfast (lobster hollandaise!). The little gifts like drinks in the room and candy in the lobby were a treat. Megan at the front desk was always very welcoming and helpful with suggestions and service requests - top notch! Only caveat: lots of stairs as befits a historical building so not accessible friendly.

This hotel is incredible. The location is right by the quaint downtown of Camden ME with views of the harbor. The hotel has cool decor with traditional, ornate, and fun modern elements. The rooms are gorgeous with comfortable beds, pretty views, some have saunas, soaking tubs, tvs in the bathroom, all the awesome amenities and so many personal touches. Breakfast was included at the restaurant on site (Natalie’s) & the FOOD… so delicious. We attended a wedding here and I can’t get over how fantastic the food was for the event as well. I will not be able to stop thinking about the butternut squash soup, stuffed mushrooms, and rotinis for a long time. Very talented chef. They can also accommodate dietary needs and do so in a way that does not sacrifice flavor at all. The staff is wonderful. They are attentive, welcoming, knowledgeable, helpful, have extreme attention to detail, and take great care in making sure guests have the best experience. They should be the gold standard for service. This is a very special place.
