My husband proposed to me at dinner here so it is extra charming to me. It was in the middle of a snowstorm and it felt like we were in a snow globe! The outdoor heated sidewalks from the spa to the amazing deep hot tub is the bomb! The dinner at the dining room requires reservations but expert cocktails in the library ahead, and it is so fancy & delicious that it’s certainly worth the planning and wait! Cannot wait to go again! Stay in the castle!!!

The resort is housed within a historic mansion, originally built in 1905, and is a proud member of Historic Hotels of America, also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Beyond the slopes, the surrounding area offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and golf. The quaint town of Ludlow, with its shops and restaurants, is also just a short drive away. This blend of natural beauty and proximity to recreational and cultural sites makes Castle Hill a versatile destination for various types of getaways, from adventurous outdoor trips to tranquil retreats.

Services and Amenities

Castle Hill Resort and Spa prides itself on offering a full suite of services and amenities designed to pamper and rejuvenate guests. The resort is home to the award-winning Aveda Concept Spa, described as the only full-service spa in the Okemo/Ludlow region. The spa offers a wide variety of treatments, including massages, body wraps, facials, manicures, and pedicures, provided by professionals. It features six private treatment rooms located in a historic carriage house on the grounds. The spa also includes a fully equipped fitness center with cardio machines, weight systems, and free weights, along with yoga classes.

A highlight of the spa facilities, frequently praised by guests, is the outdoor heated saltwater pool and a deep hot tub, which are open year-round. These facilities are easily accessible, with "outdoor heated sidewalks from the spa to the amazing deep hot tub."

Dining at Castle Hill is a significant part of the experience. The on-site gourmet restaurant, Castle Dining, serves breakfast and dinner. The restaurant is celebrated for its "fancy & delicious" cuisine, with Executive Chef Alphonsus Harris creating innovative American menus that integrate local products and classical French techniques. Reservations are required for dinner, and guests can enjoy "expert cocktails in the library ahead," which features a piano and fireplace, adding to the elegant atmosphere.

Additional services and amenities include complimentary wireless internet access throughout the property, a 24-hour front desk, concierge services, a business center, and meeting/conference facilities (6,279 sq ft of event space). The resort also offers free self-parking, luggage storage, and dry cleaning/laundry services. While the resort generally provides excellent service, some guest feedback regarding the spa experience points to areas for improvement in terms of privacy and staff supervision in communal spa areas. This includes observations about non-spa guests loitering in spa facilities and a lack of privacy when transitioning to and from treatments, suggesting a need for clearer policies and staff training to ensure a consistently comfortable and private experience for all spa patrons.

Features of the Rooms

Castle Hill Resort and Spa offers a diverse range of accommodations, including individually decorated guest rooms within the historic mansion and spacious condominium units on the resort grounds. The 10 guest rooms in the Historic Mansion are uniquely designed, often featuring wood floors, premium bedding, and air conditioning, providing a luxurious and cozy atmosphere. Guests have the option to "Stay in the castle!!!" for a truly enchanting experience.

The condominiums, ideal for longer stays or larger groups, offer two and three-bedroom layouts with expansive living areas and gourmet kitchens. These units provide more space and the convenience of self-catering. All guestrooms, whether in the mansion or the condos, typically include private bathrooms with bathrobes, free WiFi, and thoughtful touches like bathrobes. Some rooms also feature working fireplaces, refrigerators, and microwaves, adding to the comfort and convenience. The rooms are designed to provide a restful and elegant retreat, consistent with the resort's luxury branding.

Promotional Information and Guest Experience

Castle Hill Resort and Spa is widely promoted as one of Vermont's most elegant and romantic resorts, ideal for honeymoons, special occasions like proposals (as experienced by a thrilled guest who described it as "extra charming"), and luxurious getaways. Its inclusion in Historic Hotels of America underscores its unique heritage and commitment to maintaining its original charm.

The resort's promotional materials highlight its "superb dining," "exquisite amenities," and the "enchanting Library with a piano and fireplace." The positive reviews often praise the culinary experience, the relaxing outdoor heated pool and hot tub, and the overall beautiful property. The general sentiment is that the resort offers "excellent value for its quality" and is "beautiful and cozy."

While the resort consistently receives high ratings for cleanliness, amenities, and property conditions, the detailed feedback regarding the spa experience suggests that while the treatments themselves are professional, the overall spa environment could benefit from enhanced privacy protocols and staff supervision. This feedback, however, should be weighed against the numerous positive experiences highlighting the resort's charm, the quality of its dining, and the beauty of its facilities. For those seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" that promise a unique, upscale, and historically rich experience in the Vermont countryside, Castle Hill Resort and Spa remains a highly recommended destination for romantic escapes, family vacations, or group celebrations.

I really wanted to love the Castle Hill Spa because it is local to me and there are seemingly many things to love - the location, atmosphere, and the treatments. My treatments were excellent and done by professionals, which is why I'm keeping it at 3 stars. I was excited to have the gift of a day of pampering at the spa and really looked forward to it! However, I was very disappointed because there are some major flaws with this spa and I hope my review can help! I've been to a few different spas and every time there is a regard for privacy as people walk around in robes. Oftentimes there is a men's area, a women's area, and then communal spaces clearly marked for any spa guests but no access for non-spa guests (such as guests of the resort). This is not the case here, so BE WARNED! Anyone and everyone can go into any space other than the bathroom/locker rooms (which don't have changing rooms, so I had to change in the bathroom stall, by the way). Additionally, they have you change into a very thin robe and walk out into the public lobby area barefoot to go upstairs where the waiting area for spa treatments is. This wasn't a huge deal in theory, EXCEPT every time I had to pass through the lobby, there were at least 3 - 5 random men and women employees standing around chit-chatting. I literally had to walk through a group in my thin robe with nothing under it at one point... and I had to say excuse me, to get them to move! It was quite appalling and is the reason I will never go back here and would not recommend to a friend. Then, once my treatments were done, I knew I had access to the facilities (outdoor heated pool and hot tub) so I asked at the front desk and they said go ahead out, there's only one family. No longer did I get out there when many people started showing up - people who were not in a bathing suit, but were instead part of a wedding party for that night. Those who were swimming let their children hog the hot tub - literally never got out for the 45 minutes I was in a lounge chair waiting. Meanwhile all their friends and family gathered around the pool just hanging out like they owned the place! No employee ever came out to check on things. This should not be allowed! If you aren't a spa guest, there should be enforced rules about loitering in spa areas! Everything outside of when I was in the treatment rooms, felt uncomfortable and confusing at this spa. The staff really need some training and the facilities need better signage and privacy standards.

So this review is not based on stay at the resort rather than a review on customer service. I had booked 2 rooms for a wedding that I was attending and unfortunately due to the hurricane Milton I wasn’t able to make it. I live in Tampa bay and lost a lot during the storm. And once I was able to contact the resort about my situation the nice lady said that they would reach out to management about a refund or at least partially refund. So when I reached out a few days later because I haven’t received word either way. I spoke to the general manager Andy and again laid out my situation about being impacted by hurricane Milton his response “well you could have reached out sooner we all saw it coming(hurricane Milton)we cannot refund you’re 2 rooms because we were unable to fill those rooms on a holiday weekend”. So clearly Andy either is god knows exactly how hurricanes will make landfall and at what category they will hit at or he’s just someone whose never faced a storm that maybe take away everything they have ever worked for away in the blink of an eye. And one thing that sir Andy doesn’t know is that I have family in Vermont that was affected by the devastating floods and when I brought that up he said well we saw that coming too. So clearly if anyone has a catastrophic event heading your way I’m sure Andy knows about it. I have a lot of family in Vermont and I always visit the area and one thing for sure I will stay at a roadside motel before I give another penny to a business that stands behind a employee like Andy. I’m sorry to the resort and the rest of the staff that this review will impact. But my treatment and Andy’s response to my situation is disappointing and eye opening.

STAFF I want to start by pointing out that the staff at the hotel were above and beyond PHENOMENAL, and I mean ALL THE STAFF. I spent the weekend up there and got stuck with some car problems in a blizzard and dealt with everybody on the staff there. They were some of the nicest people I have ever dealt with in the hospitality industry. When I say all the staff, I mean all the staff! DAY 1. The plow guy helped me get my car out of a spot when my snow chain broke and I couldn’t move. DAY 2 The maintenance guy got me down to the front desk when my car broke down, then the manager got me a new room right away and gave me a ride to where I needed to go. DAY 3 The other manager called her brother-in-law to come tow and fix my car when the other shops in town were full on a Monday morning. The other front desk staff were great at letting me stay in my room until the car was finished. The cleaning crew who are the hardest working people in the industry were checking to see if my car was ok and if I needed anything. ROOM, I stayed in a two-bedroom condo that had a fireplace, full kitchen, huge living room and everything was spotless. The place was beautiful and fit 8 people. The only thing I would say is that if there is a big blizzard coming make sure you’re prepared with chains or snow tires if you are at the top of the hill because it could be a little challenging to get there.
