Yesterday my brokerage (Keller Williams Legacy Partners, CT) had our annual Summer Bash BBQ at Cave Hill Resort and I hope that we have it there again next year!! CHR is celebrating its 104 years of success and is one of the last remaining resorts of its kind!! (It reminds me of Dirty Dancing, back in an era when families “summered” at resorts. It may actually be the only remaining resort like this in CT!) This resort had all of the amenities necessary to provide for a fun filled day, and certainly for longer as we didn’t have enough time to take advantage of all of the fun activities availability!! I definitely plan to return with my family and will take advantage of everything! Every person in the family will find something they like to do … you can read a book down by the pond, or hike to the little cave in the hill, or play some table tennis, or go for a swim … there are so many wonderful options and best of all no tv’s and the WiFi is iffy!! Which for me and my family is what we prefer .. to unplug with technology and plug into quality family time! Did I mention that this is a family owned and operated resort?? Which is my jam … supporting local M&P businesses! Another bonus to staying at CHR is they provide a yummy home cooked breakfast AND dinner!! Just another reason why this gem is on the top of my list for family weekend getaways and a potential wedding venue!!!! *Only two drawbacks I noted were; no dogs allowed and not much storage in the cabins very basic think glamping … these are NOT big enough deterrents for keep us from staying there. 🦋

Nestled in the tranquil setting of Moodus, Connecticut, Cave Hill Resort provides an idyllic natural environment perfect for unwinding and outdoor enjoyment. The resort’s expansive grounds invite exploration and relaxation, featuring a serene pond where guests can read a book or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings. As its name suggests, the property includes a "little cave in the hill," offering a unique hiking destination right on site. The overall ambiance is one of rustic charm and natural beauty, designed to encourage guests to disconnect from the digital world and immerse themselves in their surroundings.
The resort’s environment is meticulously maintained, exuding a sense of history and care. While the accommodations lean towards a "glamping" style – basic yet comfortable cabins – the focus is on the communal experience and the natural beauty of the grounds. This deliberate simplicity is a key part of its appeal, particularly for those seeking to "unplug with technology and plug into quality family time," as highlighted by a satisfied guest. The absence of televisions in rooms and the "iffy" WiFi are not drawbacks but rather intentional features that promote genuine connection and relaxation.
Located in Moodus, a village within East Haddam, the resort is situated in a picturesque part of Connecticut, known for its scenic landscapes and charming small towns. While offering a secluded feel, it remains accessible, providing an in-state getaway option for many. The natural setting, combined with the resort's commitment to preserving its historical character, creates a truly distinctive and inviting environment for guests seeking a break from urban life.
Cave Hill Resort distinguishes itself with a unique set of services and amenities that prioritize connection, comfort, and good old-fashioned fun. A standout feature, enthusiastically praised by guests, is the provision of "yummy home cooked breakfast AND dinner." This family-style dining adds immense value and convenience, fostering a communal atmosphere and ensuring guests enjoy delicious, wholesome meals without having to leave the resort. This emphasis on provided meals is a significant draw, reminiscent of classic resort experiences.
The resort boasts an impressive array of activities and amenities designed to keep every family member engaged. Guests have access to a swimming area, perfect for cooling off on a warm day. For active pursuits, there are options like table tennis and various other games. The expansive grounds are perfect for outdoor activities, including hayrides that offer a charming way to explore the property. The highlight for many is the sheer volume of "fun activities availability," often more than guests can experience during a short stay. This ensures there's always something to do, whether it's an organized event or a spontaneous activity.
Evening entertainment is also a highlight, with past guests raving about "s'mores night and karaoke night," fostering a lively and memorable communal experience. The resort actively encourages guests to immerse themselves in these activities, reinforcing the theme of family fun and shared moments. The friendly staff and the inherent family-owned and operated nature of the resort contribute significantly to the warm and welcoming service, making guests feel like part of the family.
The accommodations at Cave Hill Resort lean towards a "glamping" style, offering a comfortable yet basic setup designed to encourage guests to spend more time enjoying the resort's outdoor amenities and communal spaces. The rooms are described as "great and had AC," ensuring comfort during warmer months. While reviews note "not much storage in the cabins," this is framed as a minor drawback, aligning with the "glamping" concept where the focus is on the experience outside the room rather than extensive in-room luxuries. This deliberate simplicity, including the absence of TVs and "iffy" WiFi, is a core feature that supports the resort's mission of promoting unplugged, quality family time.
The cabins and rooms are clean and provide a comfortable base for rest. The emphasis is on providing functional spaces that complement the outdoor-centric nature of the resort. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, ensuring a good night's sleep after a day filled with activities. The overall design and provision are geared towards creating an environment where relaxation and interaction are prioritized over modern electronic distractions.
Cave Hill Resort proudly promotes its rich history and status as "one of the last remaining resorts of its kind," celebrating over 104 years of operation. This heritage is a significant draw, appealing to those seeking a nostalgic and authentic "Dirty Dancing" era experience. The resort actively markets itself as an ideal destination for "family weekend getaways," emphasizing its ability to cater to "every person in the family" with a wide range of activities. Its unique "unplugged" nature, with limited technology, is a key promotional point for families looking to reconnect without digital distractions.
Beyond family vacations, Cave Hill Resort is also presented as a "potential wedding venue." Its picturesque grounds, charming atmosphere, and ability to host events, as evidenced by the mention of a company BBQ, make it a unique and memorable setting for special occasions. The inclusion of "yummy home cooked breakfast AND dinner" is a strong promotional aspect, highlighting the value and convenience of the stay.
Important notes for potential guests include the resort's no-dogs-allowed policy, which is a drawback for pet owners but likely contributes to the overall cleanliness and allergen management for other guests. The basic nature of the cabin storage should also be considered when packing. Despite these minor points, the overwhelmingly positive feedback, including repeat bookings and enthusiastic recommendations, underscores the resort's success in delivering a memorable and enjoyable experience. For those looking for a truly immersive, family-focused, and historically charming retreat under the "Hotels Near Of Me" banner, Cave Hill Resort offers a rare and delightful opportunity to create lasting memories.

Aug 08, 2024 · Tammy WhitneyEverything and more that we could have wanted for a last-minute in state getaway! The rooms were great and had AC. The resort itself was amazing, so many things to do it was hard to even fit everything in on our short stay! They had a s'mores night and karaoke night and offer hayrides of their grounds. Amazing and could not recommend this place enough we've already booked another stay with them!
Aug 09, 2023 · Nicole SpigaroloHeld a family party at the resort for a day. JoAnn was very pleasant to deal with in booking the party and being onsite for assistance. Place is better than the pictures. Enormous pool was a big hit with the kids! Would definitively book again!
Sep 05, 2023 · janis smallAwesome little place! Clean, and the owner was so awesome!!! Pool was cold and sparkling! Bathrooms were cleaner than most homes! And roomy! Had an area to sit, chat, and wait if the 2 rooms were occupied!
Jul 03, 2022 · David Loughrey IIGreat place to hold a party or gathering. There is a swimming pool that is fenced in and has a deep side and a shallow side for kids. There are gazebos setup up for people to sit under. With a basketball court right in front. There is also a pond with paddle boats. Outside of that is a golf course. There is also a hill that has a little campfire spot set up. Plus a whole playground setup for the kids. Would recommend using for big gatherings of more than 50+ people and wanting to have activities for the whole family to enjoy all day.
