I just stayed here and had a great experience. I don’t know what it was like before, but it had obviously been recently redone because everything in the lobby and in the room appeared to be extremely new and impeccably clean. I was coming after work so I was not able to check in until after midnight, but I called ahead and the staff/owners were very nice and accommodating. I didn’t realize until the morning that I think they gave me the nicest room because it was a corner room so I had windows on two sides and a gorgeous view of the Connecticut River, so I’m grateful for that and wish I could’ve enjoyed that a little longer. My only critique, and it’s more of a preference I guess, is that the air fresheners were very strong so if you are sensitive to that, it could be a problem. I can be, but fortunately I woke up this morning with no headache and I was fine.

Solano Inn Introduce

For local users and travelers utilizing the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform in Portland, Connecticut, the Solano Inn presents itself as a noteworthy option. Located at 1503 Portland-Cobalt Rd, Portland, CT 06480, USA, this independently operated hotel offers a unique blend of potentially refreshed accommodations and a convenient location. As a local establishment, it caters directly to the needs of those seeking immediate and accessible lodging within the Portland area, whether for a quick stopover, a business trip, or a leisure visit to explore the Connecticut River Valley.

The "Hotels Near Of Me" category emphasizes the practicality of location and the relevance of services for individuals seeking accommodations in their immediate vicinity. The Solano Inn, with its clear address and direct contact information (phone: (860) 342-0010 or mobile: +1 860-342-0010), provides this crucial accessibility. Its position allows guests to be close to local attractions, businesses, and natural landscapes, offering a pragmatic base for exploring Portland and surrounding areas.

Environment and Ambiance:

The environment and ambiance of Solano Inn appear to be a subject of varied guest experiences. One recent review provides an overwhelmingly positive impression, highlighting a significant transformation: "I don’t know what it was like before, but it had obviously been recently redone because everything in the lobby and in the room appeared to be extremely new and impeccably clean." This suggests a strong recent investment in updating the property, aiming for a modern and pristine aesthetic. The reviewer further praises the "gorgeous view of the Connecticut River" from their corner room, indicating that some rooms offer a picturesque and serene outlook, which can greatly enhance the overall ambiance. The staff/owners were also noted as "very nice and accommodating," contributing positively to the overall hospitable environment, especially for a late check-in.

However, an objective introduction demands the inclusion of contrasting experiences. Another review describes a significantly different and concerning environment: "Hallways were stinking of weed and water damage. There were beer bottle and brooms in the hallway." This indicates a severe lack of cleanliness and order in common areas, directly contradicting the "impeccably clean" description from another guest. Furthermore, issues within the room itself, such as "water damage on the ceiling" and a "shower leaked constantly," point to fundamental maintenance problems that can severely impact guest comfort and satisfaction. The mention of a "hard as a rock" bed also suggests inconsistencies in room comfort. These contrasting reviews imply a potential variability in guest experience, possibly depending on the specific room assigned or the time of stay, or perhaps indicating that renovations are ongoing or not uniformly applied across the property. The strong air freshener scent, while a minor preference, could also be an environmental factor for sensitive guests.

Services and Amenities:

Based on the reviews and general online information, Solano Inn appears to offer a fundamental set of amenities to its guests. The positive review highlights the accommodating nature of the "staff/owners," particularly their willingness to facilitate a late check-in, which is a crucial service for travelers with unpredictable schedules. This suggests a personalized and flexible approach to customer service, often found in smaller or independently run establishments. Daily housekeeping is also generally expected, although not explicitly confirmed in the reviews provided. Online sources indicate the availability of free Wi-Fi in rooms and public areas, a shared microwave, laundry facilities, a front-desk safe, and free self-parking, which are all practical amenities for guests. Some rooms may also feature kitchenettes with microwaves, cooktops, and essential cookware, offering a level of self-sufficiency that is beneficial for extended stays.

However, the negative review points to significant deficiencies in basic services and room functionality. A constantly leaking shower, insufficient toilet paper (one and a third of a roll, implying lack of replenishment), and a general perception that the stay was not worth the price, all signal service shortcomings. While the hotel reportedly has a "spring water bathtub" in some rooms and Smart TVs, the effectiveness of these amenities is diminished if basic functionality like a non-leaking shower or adequate supplies is not met. The lack of a formal breakfast service, other than possibly complimentary coffee as some general listings suggest, means guests should plan for their own meals, which is a common characteristic of smaller inns not part of larger chains that offer robust breakfast buffets.

It's important to note that online sources contradict each other regarding pet policy, with some indicating "Pets not allowed" and others saying "Pets are allowed on request. Charges may apply." It's crucial for guests to confirm this directly with the hotel. Similarly, while a "picnic area" is listed as an amenity, specific recreational facilities are not prominently mentioned or praised by guests.

Features and Unique Selling Points:

The most compelling features and unique selling points of Solano Inn, as derived from the positive feedback, lie in its apparent recent renovations and its scenic location. The "extremely new and impeccably clean" appearance of the rooms and lobby, post-renovation, could be a significant draw for guests prioritizing modern aesthetics and hygiene. The "gorgeous view of the Connecticut River" from certain rooms offers a memorable and serene experience, a unique advantage for a hotel in this area. For those seeking a tranquil setting with a view, this feature is highly valuable. The individualized approach to guest service, as evidenced by accommodating late check-ins and possibly assigning a "nicest room" with a view, suggests a more personal touch than often found in large chain hotels.

However, the inconsistencies in guest experiences suggest that these positive features might not be universally present or consistently maintained across all aspects of the property. The presence of water damage and unpleasant odors in common areas and rooms, as noted by another guest, would severely undermine the perception of a "recently redone" or "impeccably clean" environment. The "hard as a rock" bed also indicates variability in room comfort. For a hotel listed under "Hotels Near Of Me," potential guests are looking for reliability and a certain standard, and the conflicting reviews highlight a challenge in consistently delivering on these promises. The hotel does not have an elevator, which is an accessibility consideration for guests.

Promotional Information:

As an independent inn, Solano Inn's promotional activities might differ from large hotel chains. Prospective guests searching through "Hotels Near Of Me" platforms would typically find direct booking rates and availability. Given its status, promotional information is best obtained by directly contacting the Solano Inn at (860) 342-0010 or +1 860-342-0010. While online travel agencies (OTAs) like Expedia, Travelocity, Hotels.com, and Orbitz do list the property, they might offer dynamic pricing based on demand and seasonality. It is always advisable to check these platforms for any available discounts or packages, and then compare them with direct booking options from the hotel. The hotel may offer specific deals for extended stays or off-season visits, or potentially special rates for local events or business travelers. It is crucial for guests to inquire about all terms and conditions, including cancellation policies, check-in/check-out times, and any potential holding fees, as financial transparency was a point of concern for a past guest. The hotel's website (if available) or the listing on major booking sites would be the primary source for current prices and availability, with prices typically starting from around $133.72 per night, as of recent checks, excluding taxes and fees, but subject to change.

In conclusion, Solano Inn in Portland, CT, offers a compelling and potentially appealing option for those seeking "Hotels Near Of Me," particularly if they receive one of the recently renovated rooms with a river view. Its strengths lie in the apparent freshness of some of its accommodations, the accommodating nature of the staff, and its scenic location. However, severe inconsistencies in cleanliness, maintenance, and basic room functionality, as reported in some reviews, present significant concerns. Prospective guests should manage their expectations and consider these varying experiences when booking, and ideally, inquire about specific room conditions or recent updates directly with the hotel to ensure a satisfactory stay.

Hallways were stinking of weed and water damage. There were beer bottle and brooms in the hallway. The room itself had water damage on the ceiling. The shower leaked constantly. Bed was hard as a rock. Glad I only was staying here 1 night.

Rooms and hallways smell awful, bed was uncomfortable, and construction at 9 am on a Sunday that included power tools and hammering immediately underneath my floorboards and men just inches outside my first floor open windows. Extremely dissatisfied with this stay.

Honestly the hotel exceeded my expectations for the price. It was super clean and the staff were great even though we had to check in at 12am. No problems at all. The diner right in front of it is a must go too.

Immediately upon entering the front office the calming, peaceful, and refreshing zen vibes were evident along with a soothing pleasant smelling aroma. A possible outerspace theme, perhaps in its infancy, seemed apparent to me based off the sleek white telescope behind the friendly, helpful man at the front desk who wore a shirt imprinted with some celestial object I can't fully recall right now. He and the wonderful mother-daughter duo who also have assisted me during my stay here are all so very kind, helpful and friendly. The zen vibes and pleasant aroma only increased in potency upon walking into the hallway to my room, both of which have an unmistakably crisp, clean appearance that almost feels futuristic to me for reasons im not sure I know how to explain. The room was so clean, spacious and calming. I believe this is the first non-chain hotel I've stayed in that wasn't an ashram or bed and breakfast. This hotel was like the besy of both worlds in my opinion between a chain-hotel and bed and breakfast, with a speet modern feel and expected ameneties of a hotel along with the more down to earth homey vibe of a bed and breakfast. The TV was huge and there were clean dishes in the cabinets. They even folded the towels into the form of elegant flowers to greet me upon my arrival. I saw some unfavorable reviews mixed with really wonderful reviews about this hotel before booking here. I was torn until i sorted the reviews by date, at which point it became clear that all negative reviews were written over a year ago, while positive reviews became more frequent and praising in congruence with the ceasing of negative reviews. I'm really glad i didnt allow the older negative reviews to influence my decision to stay here, as, if the past complaints they are indeed true, they describe a place that no longer exists here, and the hotel that exists in its place is restoring, rejuvenating, and overall wonderful. I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone!
