The Colonial Inn Ellsworth is designed as a two-story motor inn with a focus on providing essential comforts for travelers. The property, while having a long-standing presence (established since 1980), has undergone renovations to update its facilities and rooms. This effort aims to offer a clean and modern environment for guests. The exterior typically reflects a traditional motel style, and the interior spaces, including the lobby and common areas, are maintained to ensure a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel’s primary appeal lies in its strategic location. It serves as a gateway to Acadia National Park, which is approximately 15 miles or a 20-25 minute drive away. This makes it an attractive choice for visitors seeking more affordable lodging outside of the pricier Bar Harbor area, while still being within convenient reach of the park's natural wonders. Ellsworth itself is a commercial hub, offering numerous amenities such as shopping centers (including the Maine Coast Mall and an L.L. Bean Shopping Outlet), various dining establishments, and local attractions like the Woodlawn Museum and the Grand Theatre. These typically include air conditioning and heating, cable TV with premium channels, free Wi-Fi, and private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries and hair dryers. Some rooms may feature kitchenettes with refrigerators and microwaves, offering added convenience for longer stays or for preparing light meals. The hotel offers various room configurations, including king, queen, and family suites, accommodating different group sizes. For guests with mobility needs, accessible rooms are available. The hotel is also pet-friendly, allowing small animals with an additional fee, making it a suitable option for travelers with pets.
The staff at Colonial Inn Ellsworth often receives positive feedback for being personable, professional, and friendly, particularly during daytime operations. Many guests appreciate the cleanliness of the rooms and the overall value for the price. However, like any establishment, experiences can vary. Some reviews highlight challenges, such as potential issues with front desk availability or communication during late-night check-ins, leading to frustration for some travelers. These instances underscore the importance of confirming late arrival procedures directly with the hotel if arriving outside of standard check-in hours (typically 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM).
Beyond the in-room amenities, the Colonial Inn Ellsworth offers additional conveniences. Guests have access to guest laundry facilities, which can be very useful for longer trips. Free on-site parking is available, providing ample space for cars, and sometimes even for larger vehicles. The property is a 100% smoke-free facility, contributing to a healthier environment for all guests. The hotel also emphasizes accessibility, with wheelchair access to common areas and features designed for guests with disabilities.
For promotional information, the Colonial Inn Ellsworth, being affiliated with Magnuson Hotels, may offer various discounts and special rates. Guests might find seasonal deals, advance booking discounts, or packages that combine lodging with local attractions. Loyalty programs through Magnuson Hotels might also provide benefits to frequent travelers. It is always recommended to check their official website or contact the hotel directly via phone to inquire about any current promotions or discounts that might be available for your specific travel dates. The hotel's website often provides the most up-to-date information on room types, pricing, and special offers.

May 20, 2025 · mary collomI was traveling all night and was very tired so I called and paid for a room and mind you it was already 1am at that point and on the phone I said I just wanted the room to sleep for a couple hours and’s is be there in about 45 mins, and would check out at checkout time that was at 11. So I finally get there around 2 am and nobody was at the front desk at all. I tried calling and ringing bells for almost 40mins. But nobody came out so I could get my room key. So I had to leave and go pay for a different room at a different hotel just to get some rest. So when I checked out at 11 from other hotel I stop at colonial to see if I can atleast get my money back since I was told the wrong info and didn’t stay there but they told me I was screwed and couldn’t get a refund! So yeah I don’t have any thing good to say about that place! If nobody was going to be there at that time they should have told me on the phone so I could have looked else where so now I’m out almost 280$ that I can’t get back! So I would stay away from that place if I was any of you! Horrible lack of communication skills and laziness . I’ll be telling everyone that I know to stay away from that place unless because they give you wrong info just to take your money!!!😡😡😡
May 07, 2025 · christopher grantSuper cute hotel that's really clean. Nice little free breakfast & coffee selections. The room doors and beds are a bit worn in and could use some love but other than that, great place.
Jan 18, 2025 · Jeremy MillerThis is an amazing place for the value. It is a bit like stepping back into the 1970s or 80s. Very basic decor, no closet in the room I had, etc. But, I have to say my dog & I really enjoyed our stay in the Annex. Barry & all of the employees were incredibly accomodating. We used the ice machine & the laundry. Coffee & tea always available. Our room, mini fridge & microwave were exceptionally clean. I would definitely stay here again!
Oct 07, 2024 · JeanThe rooms here are a bit dated, but clean and roomy. The breakfast has many options and really adds value. The staff is very accommodating. There is road noise, but reasonably quiet at night. We would definitely come back
