We had our wedding at Covewood this year, and it was perfect. The staff was so attentive and helped significantly with planning. There was enough room for all of our guests to stay on site. We hardly needed any decorations because it is beautiful inside and out. Highly recommend Covewood as a place for respite or a woodsy wedding!

Covewood Lodge Introduce

As a distinctive entry in the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, Covewood Lodge offers a unique and cherished resort experience, deeply rooted in the "Great Camp" tradition of the Adirondack Mountains. Located at 120 Covewood Lodge Rd, Eagle Bay, NY 13331, USA, Covewood Lodge is more than just a hotel; it's a historic summer camp complex comprising a main lodge and numerous individual cottages, all nestled on the tranquil shores of Big Moose Lake. This establishment caters to guests seeking a genuine Adirondack retreat, offering both relaxation and a wide array of outdoor activities in a picturesque setting.

Environment and Location

Covewood Lodge is situated in an exceptionally beautiful and serene natural environment. Its prime location on Big Moose Lake is a significant highlight, providing guests with stunning lake views and direct access to the water. The lodge is set amidst balsam firs, spruce, and cedar trees, creating a quintessential Adirondack atmosphere. The property encompasses extensive grounds, offering a sense of privacy and seclusion. Guests can enjoy a private beach area, sun terraces, and ample space for outdoor activities.

While offering a peaceful escape, Covewood Lodge is also conveniently located approximately a 20-minute drive from Old Forge town. This allows guests to easily access additional amenities, including grocery stores, restaurants, and other local attractions like Enchanted Forest Water Safari, if they desire a change of pace. The remote nature of Big Moose Lake itself contributes to its allure, often being described as a quiet lake due to the absence of a public boat launch, ensuring a more peaceful experience for visitors. The surrounding region provides abundant opportunities for hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and more, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts in all seasons. The inherent beauty of the location means that "hardly any decorations are needed because it is beautiful inside and out," as one guest eloquently put it, especially as a wedding venue.

Services and Amenities

Covewood Lodge, as a Great Camp-style resort, emphasizes a self-sufficient and activity-rich guest experience, particularly through its accommodation options. The lodge offers a variety of lodging types, primarily consisting of 19 housekeeping cottages and several apartments and rooms within the historic Main Lodge.

  • Accommodation Types: Guests can choose from various sizes of cottages and apartments, each designed to provide a comfortable and home-like atmosphere. For example, some cottages feature an open living/dining area with a gourmet kitchen, master suites with king-sized beds and jacuzzi tubs, and additional bedrooms.
  • Fully Equipped Kitchens: A major convenience for all cottage and apartment guests is the fully equipped kitchen, which typically includes new appliances, a butcher block counter, microwave, toaster, coffee makers, and all necessary utensils, pots, pans, dishes, and glassware. This allows guests the flexibility to prepare their own meals. Stand-alone rooms in the Main Lodge usually come with small refrigerators and coffee makers.
  • Outdoor & Recreational Facilities: Covewood Lodge offers a wide array of activities directly on-site. These include a private beach area for swimming and relaxation, water sports facilities, and a tennis court. Guests can enjoy billiards, table tennis, a game room, and various outdoor games like horseshoes and pickleball. Boats for rent are available, including rowboats, paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. There are also opportunities for water skiing lessons, hiking, and fishing. The presence of a playground, children's activities (supervised during summer), and weekly campfires makes it particularly family-friendly.
  • Common Areas: The historic Main Lodge provides a welcoming space with a large porch and lounge for socializing, as well as a library/TV room for relaxation. Free Wi-Fi is available in the main lodge, acknowledging the desire for some connectivity while largely encouraging a 'disconnect' from technology. Notably, many cottages do not have TVs or cell phone reception in the rooms, fostering a genuine escape.
  • Essentials & Utilities: Firewood is supplied for cottages with fireplaces, and all cottages are heated for cool evenings. Guests are typically asked to bring their own sheets, towels, pillowcases, and dish towels for cottages and apartments, although stand-alone rooms in the Main Lodge come with linens and daily housekeeping.

The staff at Covewood Lodge is consistently praised for being "very friendly and accommodating" and "attentive," with a strong emphasis on personalized service, as highlighted by guests who hosted weddings or returned for family vacations.

Features and Guest Experience

Covewood Lodge's defining feature is its adherence to the "Great Camp" style, offering a blend of rustic Adirondack charm with modern comfort and comprehensive activities. The property has been owned and operated by the Bowes family since 1951, contributing to a strong sense of tradition and a welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere. Many guests are multi-generational visitors, creating a loyal community and highlighting the lodge's ability to foster "lifelong connections."

The guest experience at Covewood is characterized by an emphasis on outdoor recreation, family bonding, and a peaceful escape. The variety of activities, from water skiing and sailing to hiking and children's programs, ensures there is something for everyone. The beauty of the natural surroundings is often cited as a major draw, with guests appreciating the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Adirondack wilderness. The cottages are consistently described as "clean, neat, and catered with all necessary utensils for a comfortable stay," reinforcing the self-catering model. The ability to accommodate large groups, as demonstrated by the wedding review where "there was enough room for all of our guests to stay on site," makes it an excellent choice for family reunions and special events. The personal touch from the staff, who significantly assist with planning and provide attentive service, further enhances the overall positive experience.

While the lodge encourages a digital detox (limited in-room Wi-Fi, no cell service in many cottages), a phone is available in the Main Lodge for calls and Wi-Fi is provided there. This balance allows guests to truly unwind and engage with their surroundings and fellow travelers. Covewood Lodge is open seasonally, typically from May through October, focusing on the best of the Adirondack warm-weather and fall experiences.

Promotional Information

As a private, family-owned resort, Covewood Lodge's promotional strategy tends to be less about transient discounts and more about encouraging longer stays and repeat visits. While specific promotional offers might not be advertised widely on general booking platforms, prospective guests can typically expect:

  • Seasonal Pricing: Rates will vary based on the time of year, with peak summer months (late June to Labor Day) generally requiring weekly rentals and commanding higher prices. Spring and Fall might offer more flexibility with minimum stay requirements (e.g., two or three nights).
  • Direct Booking: Contacting the lodge directly via phone at (315) 357-3041 or +1 315-357-3041, or through their official website, is the best way to inquire about current rates and availability, and potentially any direct booking benefits.
  • Wedding and Group Packages: As a popular wedding venue, Covewood Lodge likely offers tailored packages for special events, including accommodation for guests. The ability to host a large group on-site is a significant advantage for such occasions.
  • Early Booking: Due to its popularity and multi-generational loyal guest base, booking well in advance, especially for peak season, is crucial to secure preferred dates and cottage types.
  • Inclusion of Activities: While not a "discount," the inherent value of staying at Covewood Lodge comes from the wide array of included activities and access to equipment (boats, sports facilities), which might be an added cost at other accommodations.

Guests are encouraged to reach out to Covewood Lodge directly for precise details on reservations, pricing, and any current availability, as this property operates on a more traditional, personalized booking model rather than standard online booking engines for all its offerings.

Conclusion

Covewood Lodge, an esteemed establishment within the "Hotels Near Of Me" category, offers a truly authentic and deeply engaging Adirondack experience. Located at 120 Covewood Lodge Rd, Eagle Bay, NY 13331, USA, it provides a serene lakeside environment on Big Moose Lake, rich in natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The lodge's strength lies in its "Great Camp" heritage, offering well-appointed, self-catering cottages and apartments that blend rustic charm with modern comfort. With a strong emphasis on family, outdoor activities, and attentive staff, Covewood Lodge creates an atmosphere where guests can genuinely disconnect and create lasting memories. Whether for a peaceful respite, an active outdoor adventure, or a special event like a wedding, Covewood Lodge stands as a highly recommended destination for those seeking a unique and cherished Adirondack retreat.

Covewood Lodge is situated on Big Moose Lake and is about 20 min drive from Old Forge town. The cabins are clean, neat and are catered with all necessary utensils for a comfortable stay. They also offer boats for rent, ski trips, ski lessons and different children activities during the day. We had an amazing stay and will definitely be back

My family has been visiting Covewood Lodge on Big Moose Lake since the early 1970's. The owners obviously love the place, and that translates into a wonderful experience! It doesn't hurt that the scenery is beyond beautiful, the location is convenient to other mountain attractions, there is family fun for children and adults, and the accomodations provide clean, well equipped lodging. Over the years, we have stayed at Bayside, Boat House, Outlet, Forest, Hill, Earl Covey, Raccoon, the apartments and the rooms in the Lodge - each offering their own charms.

We had an amazing weekend! Stayed in the main Lodge for a family wedding and it was more than perfect! I have never encountered a staff that was so genuine, kind and caring! The setting was beautifully charming and quaint, perfect for a wedding weekend! We can't wait to make this a yearly getaway trip! Thank you so much for making our stay so wonderful!

We had another amazing annual family trip to Covewood. Their new wifi options in the cabins make working remotely possible when you have to. Wifi access aside, the focus continues to be about disconnecting and spending time with family.
