I had a wonderful experience during my recent stay at the Hilton, and I want to give special recognition to Robin at the front desk. From the moment I arrived, Robin was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. She made check-in quick and seamless, offered great local recommendations, and went out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. It’s rare to come across someone so genuinely kind and attentive—Robin truly set the tone for a great visit. Her professionalism and positive attitude were a standout, and she’s a real asset to the Hilton team. Thank you, Robin, for your outstanding service!

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago - Oak Brook Introduce

For residents of Illinois, finding a reliable and comfortable hotel in the bustling Chicago suburbs is a common need, whether for hosting out-of-town guests, a staycation, or a corporate trip. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago - Oak Brook, with its recognizable brand name and prime location, is a frequent consideration. This article is designed to provide you, the local user, with a transparent and comprehensive look at what makes this hotel a popular choice, while also acknowledging the feedback and experiences of real customers. We'll delve into the hotel's public-facing image, its location, and its amenities, all while balancing the promotional tone with factual, user-generated insights. Our goal is to give you a complete picture so you can decide if this hotel meets your needs and expectations.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago - Oak Brook is an established presence in the Oak Brook community. From the outside and within its newly updated lobby, the hotel presents a sophisticated and inviting image. As one guest noted, the "lobby was beautiful and smelled wonderful," giving an "upscale vibe." This initial impression, enhanced by the famously warm DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie at check-in, often sets a positive tone. However, the experience can vary beyond the front doors. While the hotel has made strides in modernizing certain areas, some guests feel that other parts of the property, including the rooms, are "a bit outdated." Despite this, the hotel's staff is consistently a point of praise. A "genuinely kind and attentive" front desk worker named Robin and another "sweetest and so welcoming" staff member have been singled out for their outstanding service, which "truly set the tone for a great visit." Their professionalism and positive attitude are a significant asset, and a key factor in guests having a positive experience. The hotel aims to be a full-service destination for both business and leisure travelers, with a large number of rooms and extensive meeting spaces, but it's important to understand the full scope of what it offers and where it may fall short of a guest's personal preferences.

The hotel's location is undoubtedly one of its strongest selling points. Situated at 1909 Spring Rd, Oak Brook, IL 60523, USA, it is nestled in the heart of Oak Brook's commercial and business district. For locals, this means easy access to a wealth of resources without the stress of navigating downtown Chicago traffic. The hotel is conveniently located between O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport, making it a great place for out-of-town visitors to stay. It is also just "steps from the Oakbrook Center," a massive and popular shopping destination with an abundance of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. This proximity is a huge advantage for anyone looking to shop, dine, or simply explore the area on foot. For business travelers, the location provides quick access to corporate offices in Oak Brook and surrounding areas like Lombard and Hinsdale. The hotel also offers complimentary self-parking and a shuttle service, which is a great convenience. The ease of access from major highways, including I-88 and I-294, makes it a strategic choice for residents traveling from various parts of Illinois.

The DoubleTree by Hilton offers a comprehensive list of services aimed at providing a comfortable and convenient stay, though the availability and quality of some may be subject to change.

  • On-site Dining: The hotel features a couple of restaurants, including the Atrium Cafe and The Lounge at 1909, an American sports bar. These options provide guests with a convenient place to eat breakfast (for a fee), lunch, and dinner without having to leave the property.
  • Fitness Center: A gym is available for guest use. However, a customer review mentioned it has a "small variety of workout equipment" and noted that it was "very hot, stuffy, and had a chlorine smell," suggesting that while the amenity exists, its condition may not meet all expectations.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Guests can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi in both the rooms and public areas, a key feature for staying connected.
  • Meeting and Event Spaces: The hotel boasts over 30,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a Grand Ballroom, making it a major venue for local conferences, weddings, and special events.
  • Business Center: A 24-hour business center is available with services such as printing, faxing, and copying.
  • Concierge Services: The front desk staff can provide local recommendations and assistance with reservations.
  • Luggage Storage: The hotel offers luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures.
  • Shuttle Service: A complimentary shuttle service is available to transport guests to nearby attractions and the shopping center, which is a significant convenience.
  • Room Service: Room service is also available for guests who prefer to dine in the comfort of their room.

While the hotel has many appealing aspects, a detailed look at guest feedback reveals a mix of highlights and areas for improvement.

  • Exceptional Staff: The most consistent positive highlight is the hotel's staff. Front desk workers like Robin are praised for their genuine kindness, welcoming nature, and willingness to go "out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed." This level of personal service is a huge plus.
  • Room Size and Comfort: Despite some parts feeling "outdated," one reviewer found that the room was a "good size" and felt "roomy for 2 beds, 2 adults, and one child." This suggests the rooms are well-proportioned for family or group stays. The comfort of the beds can vary, with one guest noting their bed was "extra soft with a dip in the middle" while another was firm.
  • Lobby Aesthetics: The "beautiful" and "wonderful smelling" lobby creates a strong first impression that gives an "upscale vibe," which is a positive feature for first-time guests and event attendees.
  • Bathroom Cleanliness: While a guest noted a "yellow" toilet seat and a "little stain" on the shower curtain, they also stated that the "tub was nice and clean," indicating that the housekeeping standards can be a bit inconsistent but are not entirely lacking.
  • Outdated Amenities: The hotel's gym, while available, was described as having a "small variety of workout equipment" and being "very hot, stuffy, and had a chlorine smell," which is a clear negative for guests who prioritize fitness amenities. Additionally, some guests found a lack of power outlets for charging devices, a common issue in older properties.
  • Lack of Information: A critical issue noted by a guest was the lack of available outlets in the room for charging devices, which is a major inconvenience in today's connected world.
  • Environmental Considerations: The presence of a water bottle filling station is a great feature for guests who are environmentally conscious and want to stay hydrated.

For a local in the Illinois region, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago - Oak Brook is a strong contender for a specific type of stay. Its unbeatable location makes it a superb choice for hosting visiting family and friends who want to explore Oak Brook's shopping and dining scene. The hotel is also well-suited for business travelers who value proximity to corporate offices and major highways. The consistently praised friendly and welcoming staff, such as Robin, are a significant reason why guests have a positive experience, and this level of service can make up for some of the physical shortcomings of the property. I’m not sure the name of the lady who checked me in on July 1st, but she was working before 4pm on a Tuesday, and she’s going on vacation this week, LOL! Point is, she was the sweetest and so welcoming, I loved that 💟 the lobby was beautiful and smelled wonderful, but the lobby does give an upscale vibe to where I expected the rest of the hotel to be that way. However, the hotel is a bit outdated for my preferred standards, but I did not pick this place, haha! The room is a good size still feels roomy for 2 beds, 2 adults, and one child. I did notice there aren’t many outlets for charging! The bathroom would have been great if the toilet seat hadn’t been yellow, but luckily, the tub was nice and clean. The shower curtain had a little stain 🫟 , but I just tried not to pay attention. I did try the gym, which has a small variety of workout equipment, but it was manageable! Also, it was very hot, stuffy, and had a chlorine smell.

Usually I have higher expectations for a double tree. The place looks great downstairs, and offers plenty of space. Parking isn't bad either, seems to be plenty of space in the garage. Now the bad stuff! My card didn't work after bringing all my stuff all the way to my room. The lock seemed loose enough to jiggle open, but I had to drag all my luggage back down to get a different key. Another place with too thick of carpet to roll the suitcases well. And another patch of random carpet near the check in just to slow you down. Next to my room there are some rotting pieces of ceiling that are actively dripping into a recycling bin they put there instead of fixing the problem. The carpet was also wet and musty. The elevators sound like final destination is about to become reality. And breakfast doesn't open until 630. That's a problem when you need to leave for work by 7. So you're trying to rush breakfast. It's all buffet style Continental... Except coffee. Every hotel I've been to has coffee for self serve so you can start there. But not here at the buffet where everything else is self serve. You have to wait for the one waitress who's also the cashier. Not helpful when you're in a hurry. You can finish half your breakfast by the time a cup of coffee arrives. They were also doing some tile cutting or something across from the breakfast area at 7am. It was incredibly loud to the point where people in the restaurant probably needed hearing protection. Not a great atmosphere to start the day. I'll finish the review with something positive to complete the critique sandwich. It is in a great location. Across the street is a ton of restaurants and shopping. You can walk over there, so it's pretty convenient.

Extremely Disappointing Stay I typically don’t leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience. During my stay, several issues made the visit very uncomfortable. The shower curtain in our room was completely torn, giving the impression of poor maintenance. There was a leak in the hallway that raised serious concerns, especially since we weren’t sure whether it was related to the air system. Construction noise during the day, primarily drilling, was constant and disruptive. Additionally, the fitness area was severely lacking, with only a single pair of 10 lb. dumbbells available. While we appreciated being relocated away from the leak and receiving a complimentary breakfast, the overall condition of the property and the disruptions throughout our stay made it difficult to relax or enjoy our time. That said, the staff was genuinely kind and understanding, and their efforts to accommodate us did not go unnoticed. Ironically, the highlight of the entire experience was the warm, decent cookie we received at check-in. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements for future guests.

We booked the king suite as a bridal suite for our wedding. It was a great room with good lighting for the photos. The room was nice and big with a large table for hair and makeup. It was a good room for our value. Not luxury, but good quality. We also took our first look at the hotel venue. It was great for the photos.
