I find it a real shame that my issue w this resort has come to me leaving this review. I went up to this place probably 20 times in the last 40 years. I enjoyed my time up there, and FTR had a special place in my heart. This week, an issue over the cabin and deposit has led me to this. Last summer, 2024, I was fortunate enough to get my own cabin on the resort for my first time. While I was up there, a friend of mine had told me that the people who were formally in my cabin, may want it back. I never had a problem with that, especially because I like the people who wanted the cabin back. This takes me to Thur, July 4, when I was checking out after the picnic. I spoke w Ted’s assistant while checking out and there was never a mention of me not getting cabin 8. I left my deposit for Summer of 2025 and thought nothing of it. This brings me to January of this year. My family received their letters with the 50% owed for their cabins, but I didn’t receive mine. I didn’t even get an email from Ted and he claims he never had my mailing address. Again, email would suffice. I finally did get an email asking for 50% of what is owed on condo A. I figured I didn’t get my cabin again, so I asked for my deposit back because Ted’s assistant nor Ted mentioned anything about someone else taking the cabin when I left my deposit. I asked Ted what happened he replied with, “I got you A.” I asked for my deposit back because I never knew anything about this condo being available. He told me it was more economical for one person, which is interesting because in the summer of 2024 when I rented out cabin 8, the economical condo was available. Maybe it was more economical for him in 2024 for him to rent me the cabin. The bottom line is I never heard a thing from any resort owner or worker about condo A until January of 2025. I don’t want the condo and I never did want to rent a condo. I would never have left the deposit on the condo because sharing walls with other people on a vacation like this would not work for me. Unfortunately, Ted acts like I’m putting him in a tough spot and now he’s pocketing my $100 deposit. This resort is decent. It’s a good family place. Ted, this is all over you keeping my deposit. I had a choice not to leave this review just like you had a choice not to keep my deposit. This whole thing would have been avoided w better communication from management. True, I never asked for a different unit. 13 never interested me. The one upsetting thing about the whole issue is management at FTR never communicated w me that 8 wasn’t available in 2025. Not once was I told I had would not be in that unit by anyone that worked there. I was switched to condo A unknowingly. Keep replying, Ted. I’ll do the same. Your company policies are clear. You have to communicate with the people who stay on your resort where they are staying you cannot just expect someone to know what cabin is available. You have a great resort, you need to work on your business skills. I’ll take my $2000 and go on a real vacation. Also, please understand when I left this review I made sure I didn’t mess up your solid rating.

Apr 05, 2025 · joe saraciniThis resort is the best resort we have ever been to. When we first arrived they remembered us by name and offered to help unload our vehicle. Ted helped my husband back our boat into the water and when it wouldn't start got in the water and pulled us over to boat shelter. We had numerous problems with our boat and when we were working on it Ted gave suggestions and gave us tools we didn't have. I have NEVER known a resort to help so much with something that wasn't their problem. I cut my leg pretty good and Aaron took a look at it and brought his huge medical bag over and bandaged me up. Once again NEVER known a resort to offer such service. The staff here are AMAZING and the accommodations were very nice and comfortable. The views are wonderful the other guests are VERY friendly and helpful. This is our first year here and we are so pleased with our experience that instead of one week next year we already booked a second week. I will NEVER go anywhere else this place makes you feel at home and has treated us like family. If you are looking for a place to vacation with the family where you will be treated right and have a very enjoyable vacation than Fred Thomas Resort is the place to go.
Jul 02, 2024 · Amanda KohuthClean cabins, great property upkeep, friendly staff. Has fish cleaning cabin with refrigeration and deep freezer. Boat launch is a bit tricky but take it slow and you're good to go. Covered boat slips are great but watch your head!
Sep 28, 2024 · Shawn DavisSuper friendly, attentive and helpful staff and owner. Allowed us to use the garage for storage in a pinch, unexpectedly nice sitting areas, electric car charging, Solar, recycling, great for boaters, beautiful lake with islands to explore. Off-Road vehicle friendly resort with easy access to trails a mile away. On site fuel truck available. Private boat launch. Super happy with our experience here on Lake Chetek at Fred Thomas Resort.
Jul 23, 2024 · Fly BoyWe were so impressed with the cottage. Super clean with new appliances and nice furniture. The grounds are well kept with a playground, volleyball court and basketball court. They had a pickle ball net set up on the basketball court. They even supply the balls and rackets to play with. And the flower garden was gorgeous as well. You can rent fishing boats or pontoons directly from the resort. And the prices are reasonable when compared to other places in the area. They even supply live bait if you need it. And each cottage comes with a Weber grill too. We toured the lake and found an area with several eagles to observe along the shoreline. And spotted a few pheasants around the cottages as well. Rainy days aren't a problem because the rec room has a large variety of games and activities for the whole family. Just make a note of when the office is open to get quarters. The change machine was broken. Staff was super friendly and really helpful. I'd like to mention the young man by name, but I don't think Google will allow me to. But, he's always smiling and willing to help or answer questions. You'll know when you meet him. The only negative would be poor phone reception and spotty wi-fi. But in today's day and age, families can use less screen time. So it wasn't a bad thing. We've already made plans to come back next year. Just a great experience all around.
