The Hilton Graduate Hotel is an absolute delight! This place oozes charm with its retro and vintage decor—every corner is filled with nostalgic touches that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a stylish time capsule. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean, with quirky details that added to the overall vibe. The downstairs pub, Old Heidelberg, is a highlight—cozy, inviting, and perfect for a relaxing drink with its old-world charm. The café upstairs is great for grabbing a quick coffee or snack, though don’t expect a full breakfast spread—it’s more of a light bite spot. The staff were friendly and attentive, making our stay even more enjoyable. We loved every moment and can’t wait to return to this unique gem! Highly recommend!
For local users and visitors exploring accommodation options under the "Hotels Near Of Me" category in New Haven, Connecticut, the Graduate by Hilton New Haven, located at 1151 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511, USA, stands out as a distinctive choice. This hotel is part of the Graduate Hotels collection, known for its unique, locally inspired designs, often paying homage to nearby universities. In New Haven's case, it's deeply tied to the rich history and academic spirit of Yale University, making it an ideal base for prospective students, alumni, and visitors to the campus and downtown area.
The environment of Graduate by Hilton New Haven is arguably its most defining characteristic. It "oozes charm with its retro and vintage decor—every corner is filled with nostalgic touches that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a stylish time capsule." The design is deliberate, often incorporating collegiate aesthetics, quirky details, and local flair that create a truly memorable atmosphere. This "dated powerclashing" style, as one reviewer put it, is part of its unique identity, offering a refreshing alternative to more generic hotel designs. The lobby and common areas are thoughtfully curated, with cozy seating, interesting artwork, and often a fireplace, creating inviting spaces for guests to relax or socialize. This "overall chic of the rest of the space" contributes significantly to its appeal, making it a destination in itself rather than just a place to sleep.
The hotel's location is superb for those wanting to experience New Haven's vibrant downtown. It is ideally situated adjacent to the Yale University campus, placing guests within easy walking distance of its iconic architecture, museums (like the Yale University Art Gallery and Peabody Museum), and various academic buildings. The surrounding area is bustling with a diverse array of restaurants, cafes, boutiques, and cultural attractions, including the Shubert Theatre and local music venues. This prime location is a major selling point and a factor contributing to its pricing, as noted by one reviewer.
In terms of services, Graduate by Hilton New Haven aims to provide a comfortable and convenient stay. The staff generally receives high praise, with one guest stating, "Everyone working there was wonderful," and another noting, "The staff were friendly and attentive, making our stay even more enjoyable." This commitment to service helps to counteract any minor inconveniences guests might encounter. The hotel offers typical front desk services, and the overall interaction with the team contributes positively to the guest experience.
A key feature of the hotel is its distinct food and beverage offerings. The downstairs pub, Old Heidelberg, is a highlight, described as "cozy, inviting, and perfect for a relaxing drink with its old-world charm." This establishment provides a full-service bar and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a popular spot for both hotel guests and locals. Upstairs, The Poindexter, a café, is "great for grabbing a quick coffee or snack," though it's important to note that it's "more of a light bite spot" and guests "don’t expect a full breakfast spread." This means that while convenient for grab-and-go options, it might not cater to those seeking a substantial, hot breakfast typical of some other hotel brands.
The guest rooms at Graduate by Hilton New Haven continue the unique design theme. They are generally described as "spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean, with quirky details that added to the overall vibe." Each room is thoughtfully appointed with amenities designed for comfort and convenience. However, some feedback indicates that while the decor is distinctive, the functionality might not always align with modern expectations. One reviewer noted that "the TV isn't new enough for any streaming so you get the experience of early aughts TV," which can be a minor drawback for guests accustomed to modern entertainment options. Despite this, the comfortable beds and clean environment contribute to a pleasant stay.
Other features typically include complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the property, essential for both leisure and business travelers. The hotel often provides flexible common areas and workspaces, appealing to students, academics, and remote workers. For those traveling with pets, Graduate Hotels are generally pet-friendly, making this a suitable option for guests with furry companions (though it's always advisable to confirm specific pet policies and any associated fees).
Promotional information for Graduate by Hilton New Haven emphasizes its unique boutique nature, its connection to Yale University, and its prime downtown location. While the nightly rate can be a point of discussion, with one reviewer finding it "disappointed for what you get at $200+ a night," the hotel's distinctive ambiance and excellent location are often cited as justifications for the price point. The hotel participates in the Hilton Honors loyalty program, allowing guests to earn and redeem points for stays, and potentially access elite benefits.
Parking is an important consideration for guests traveling by car. The hotel does not have its own dedicated parking garage. Instead, as one review highlights, they "recommend the lot at 150 York," which can lead to unexpected charges due to its "all day" rate resetting at midnight, potentially costing more than anticipated for stays just over the 24-hour mark. This is a crucial piece of information for guests to factor into their budget and planning, and it's advisable to clarify parking costs directly with the hotel or the parking facility.
Overall, for those seeking "Hotels Near Of Me" in New Haven, Graduate by Hilton New Haven offers a memorable and character-filled experience. Its strength lies in its unique, retro-inspired environment, excellent location near Yale, and friendly staff. While some aspects like TV modernity and parking costs might require consideration, the hotel provides a comfortable and authentically New Haven stay that is highly recommended for travelers looking for something beyond the conventional.

Apr 20, 2025 · Timo KHonestly, I was disappointed for what you get at $200+ a night. Everyone working there was wonderful but the room decor can best be described as dated powerclashing. It was very mid, but I guess they're charging for the location and overall chic of the rest of the space? Also, the TV isn't new enough for any streaming so you get the experience of early aughts TV. Nothing particularly awful, just nothing worth the price. Heads up for parking: they'll recommend the lot at 150 York which advertises "All day $20 flat rate" but I was there less than 24 hours and was charged $40 because apparently "all day" resets at midnight and they just automatically charge for a full extra day even if you leave by 2pm?
Mar 20, 2025 · Allison PortaThe Graduate in New Haven is such a cute hotel! I love the attention to detail here. I typically like more minimalist hotel styles, but this place is so elegant and screams old money. I love that the key cards are bios of famous graduates from Yale. Everything is modeled to graduate hotel, Yale, and dogs. Everything has a student feel to it. Lovely hotel to stay at. It's also super close to everything you'd want to do in downtown. The cafe was very nice. They had amazing cappuccinos and matcha lattes.
Jan 01, 2025 · sharonNever been here before, but I can tell you this is a great place to stay instantly. Jaimee at the front desk couldn’t have been more nice, helpful, or have a better personality. Compare that to Mike in the basement at the bar and you’ve got a great place to stay and drink. Will definitely be staying here anytime I come back!
Mar 25, 2025 · Parker DBeds were comfortable and bathroom was great. I had great experience with April at front desk. My concern stems from the fact that I am handicapped and there is no parking. If they do have handicapped accessible parking. Meter parking on street or parking garage 1 1/2 blocks away is not what one would call handicapped accessible. If you have mobility problems avoid this hotel.
