We stayed a few weeks ago. Updates were going on but that doesn't bother me. The issue was everything else. The fridge didn't work. The temp control knob was missing. The desk worker gave me a new knob that didn't fit. The TV channels didn't work. Was told by the front desk worker to just use streaming services because they know the channels don't work. The TV doesn't have built in apps, so you'd have to mirror your phone. I didn't bother with it. Worst of all, the bathroom tub wouldn't drain correctly. Water would sit in there for hours before slowly draining. Told the front desk worker and they didn't have any more available rooms to move us to. Was told the manager would fix it in the morning. It never got fixed. Multiple times when I walked by the front desk there was someone else complaining about something with their room. Not what I've grown to expect from a Hampton. This was easily one of the top five worst hotel stays I’ve had. Recent negative reviews are accurate. I’d avoid this place until new management steps in and shows they care about their guests.
For residents of Iowa, the Hampton Inn brand has long been associated with reliability and a certain standard of quality. The Hampton Inn Cedar Rapids South, located right here in Cedar Rapids, is a property that, from a distance, seems to offer that same promise. However, a deeper look at recent guest experiences reveals a hotel that has been struggling to live up to the expectations that the brand has set. This article is written from your perspective as a local user, providing a direct and factual account of what recent guests have encountered. We will cover the hotel's location, its advertised amenities, and a stark look at the real-world issues that have been reported, all to help you make a truly informed decision for your next stay.
The Hampton Inn Cedar Rapids South is a hotel that appears to be in a state of transition, with guests noting that "updates were going on." However, this has not translated into a better experience for all. Reviews consistently highlight a significant disconnect between guest expectations and the hotel's reality. The most critical feedback centers on a range of maintenance and operational issues. From a non-functional refrigerator and a television with no working channels to a slow-draining bathtub, guests have reported a multitude of problems. Furthermore, the hotel’s response to these issues has been a major point of contention. As one guest noted, after reporting a problem, they were told a manager would fix it in the morning, but "it never got fixed." This apparent lack of follow-through and what some perceive as a general indifference to guest concerns has led to a reputation for poor service. One guest even stated they would "avoid this place until new management steps in and shows they care about their guests," which is a powerful indictment for a brand known for its hospitality.
The hotel is located at 3265 6th St SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404, USA. Its location is perhaps its strongest and most consistent selling point. Situated with easy access to I-380, the hotel provides a convenient base for exploring Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area. For a local resident, this location is great for a variety of purposes. It is within a short walking distance to a number of restaurants, as one guest mentioned, which is a major convenience for those who prefer to leave their car behind for a meal. The hotel is also near major local attractions such as Hawkeye Downs Speedway & Expo, Hawkeye Downs Fairgrounds, and the Cedar Rapids Kernels Baseball Stadium. This makes it a strategic choice for anyone attending local events or business meetings in the area. The location is also favorable for those needing access to the airport or other business parks in the area. The ease of access to major roads and nearby amenities is a key reason why some guests give the hotel a second chance, even after a disappointing first stay.
The Hampton Inn brand typically offers a solid list of services, but at this specific location, the reliability of these services has been called into question by guest reviews.
The hotel has a number of features and highlights that are consistently mentioned in reviews, though often in a negative context.
For those who need to contact the Hampton Inn Cedar Rapids South for reservations or inquiries, here is the official contact information. Given the feedback on service and amenities, it is strongly recommended to call ahead to confirm any specific needs or concerns before booking.
For a local in Iowa, the Hampton Inn Cedar Rapids South presents a complex choice. Its suitability is limited and depends heavily on your priorities and tolerance for potential issues. On the one hand, the location is a definite plus. If you're attending a specific event in the southwest Cedar Rapids area, such as a fair at Hawkeye Downs, or if you need a hotel within walking distance of restaurants for a quick business trip, the location is ideal. The free breakfast and on-site pool are also standard perks that might be appealing. However, the consistent and serious negative reviews are a major deterrent. The documented issues with broken amenities, a lack of follow-up on maintenance requests, and what appears to be a general decline in guest care suggest that this hotel may not live up to the Hampton Inn reputation. For a local planning a staycation or booking a room for important guests, the risk of a "top five worst hotel stays" experience, as one reviewer put it, is likely not worth the convenience. It's a hotel that, based on current reviews, is best avoided until a clear change in management and a significant renovation effort is confirmed.

Jul 10, 2025 · Tyler WeissHave stayed twice in last two weeks for work . I gave it a second chance due to walking distance to restaurants. Still had no TV service. Was told you can stream. there are no apps on TV. There are cars in parking lot with flat tires and looks like people living in them. First night was $98 with Hilton honors. A week later was $140 for same room. Defiantly not worth the money.
Jul 28, 2025 · Jarrod BoldreyI get places need to remodel but this place was rediculus. Folding tables set up for complementary breakfast all the chairs were stained worse than stools at a casino after a free coffee event. Cars out front without license plates, that haven’t moved in awhile. Pool down cause they can’t replace the filters. Definitely not a 4 star hotel!
Jun 12, 2025 · Michael MccutcheonThe hotel is finishing a renovation (you cannot fault any company for improving itself) but the service was phenomenal! All of the Front Desk agents were so friendly and helpful. Definitely a great visit!
Jun 28, 2025 · Steve SkellyThis is an older hotel in need of updates. The elevator wasn't working when I arrived but the desk clerk did find me a room on the first floor (original room was on third floor). TV was mediocre-2 channels as there was a problem with cable. Sound from TV muffled. The hotel does not have a digital key for the doors. There was a note on the front door to contact the front desk for entry after 11 pm as the key reader was not working. Bottom line: Stay away from this hotel until it is renovated.
