We often stay at Holiday Inn Express hotels during our U.S. trips and are usually quite happy with the standard – unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here in Biddeford. The hotel is currently under renovation, which is obvious from the outside and makes the place feel more like a set from Dexter than a welcoming hotel. The front desk is temporarily set up and barely staffed. When we asked to store our luggage for the day, the staff member wasn’t helpful at all – he suggested we simply leave our bags unattended near the entrance. Seriously? The room itself was okay – decent but clearly in need of renovation. Still, what really tipped the scale was the lack of service and overall atmosphere. As of April 2025, we can’t recommend staying here. A little effort from the staff might have changed that.
The Holiday Inn Express Biddeford by IHG, located at 45 Barra Rd, Biddeford, ME 04005, USA, operates as a key property within the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) portfolio. As part of the "Hotels Near Of Me" platform category, it caters to both leisure and business travelers seeking a recognized brand name and consistent services in the Biddeford and Southern Maine region. Guests can contact the hotel directly at (207) 294-6464 or via mobile at +1 207-294-6464.
The Holiday Inn Express Biddeford is strategically positioned off Exit 32 of the Maine Turnpike (I-95), making it highly accessible for those traveling by car. This location places it in a convenient commercial area, slightly removed from the direct city center but offering excellent connectivity to various local and regional attractions. The hotel is approximately 2.5 to 3 miles from the heart of Biddeford. Free self-parking is available on-site for guests.
For those looking to explore Southern Maine, the hotel serves as a gateway to several popular destinations. Old Orchard Beach, known for its seven-mile sandy beach, pier, and amusement park (Palace Playland), is approximately a 15-20 minute drive away (around 6-7 miles). Family-friendly attractions such as Funtown Splashtown USA and Aquaboggan Water Park are also within a short driving distance (about 4 miles), making it convenient for summer vacations. The University of New England is another significant nearby institution, appealing to visitors for campus events or academic purposes. Additionally, the hotel offers relatively easy access to Portland International Jetport (PWM), approximately 14-15 miles away, and the vibrant city of Portland itself, with its diverse dining, shopping, and cultural attractions, roughly a 20-30 minute drive. The surrounding area includes various dining options and commercial businesses, providing essential conveniences for guests. The hotel is a multi-story building (typically 3 or 4 floors), equipped with elevators for guest convenience.
As a Holiday Inn Express, the hotel aims to provide a reliable and consistent guest experience with a focus on essential amenities and comfort.
The Holiday Inn Express brand is often promoted for its value-added services, particularly the complimentary hot breakfast and free Wi-Fi, making it attractive for travelers under the "Hotels Near Of Me" category looking for reliable and convenient lodging. The hotel's location near I-95 and key attractions is a major selling point for both leisure and business stays.
However, it is crucial to note the recent guest feedback, which indicates that the hotel has been undergoing renovations. As of early 2025, reviews highlight that the "hotel is currently under renovation, which is obvious from the outside and makes the place feel more like a set from Dexter than a welcoming hotel." This renovation can impact the guest experience, with mentions of a "temporarily set up and barely staffed" front desk, leading to issues like being asked to "simply leave our bags unattended near the entrance." This suggests a potential disruption to services and ambiance during the renovation period.
While some guests have found their rooms to be "clean" and "decent," they also note that rooms are "clearly in need of renovation." Positive aspects cited by some include a "good location, right off the highway," and staff being "kind enough to give me a late check-out as per my request." The breakfast options have also been described as "good," despite some comments about food service staff mood.
Conversely, the renovation has been a significant point of criticism, with guests feeling that the hotel did not meet the usual Holiday Inn Express standards due to construction-related issues, including noise, tripping hazards in the lobby, and rooms where the AC was left on cold. The perceived lack of helpfulness from staff regarding basic requests like luggage storage has also contributed to dissatisfaction. As one guest explicitly stated, "As of April 2025, we can’t recommend staying here. A little effort from the staff might have changed that." This suggests that while the brand promises consistency, the ongoing renovation has affected the immediate guest experience.
In conclusion, the Holiday Inn Express Biddeford by IHG aims to offer a comfortable and convenient stay with brand-standard amenities like free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and an indoor pool, in a highly accessible location near Biddeford's attractions. However, prospective guests should be aware of the ongoing renovations, which may impact the aesthetics, service flow, and overall atmosphere of the property in the short term. It is advisable to consider recent reviews and potentially contact the hotel directly regarding the status of renovations and any potential impacts on their stay.

Apr 21, 2025 · Dominik HugJust stayed for one night and nothing major to complain about. My room was clean, breakfast options were good though I think the food service staff was in a bad mood. Front desk staff was kind enough to give me a late check-out as per my request. Good location, right off the highway.
Feb 06, 2025 · Metehan ErdoganWorst hotel experience ever . Room outdated . Dust everywhere on the heater . Which blew cold air all night and was unable to turn it to warm . Bathroom incredibly tiny . Tub didn't fill much and the water got cold by the time it was filling . Door in the way of the toilet so you could barely move around in the bathroom . Dining area downstairs cold , unwelcoming , drafty. Food was just ok . Front desk man seemed very uninterested in what we had to say about anything . Door to room sticks so you have to slam your body into the door to get into the room. Would never stay here again not even for free .
Dec 28, 2024 · Holly BoudreauI have stayed in many hotels over the years and never been woken up to someone entering my room while I was sleeping until last night. The desk gave someone a room key for our room and they tried to enter while we were asleep. Needless to say after that I didn’t sleep very well. The construction in the building is inconvenient, they gave me a room with full size beds instead of queen which is what I paid for. Extremely disappointed with this stay. The carelessness of the staff for allowing a safety concern to happen like this is deplorable….
