We got there it was 100 degrees outside and no a/c was on cabin was like 110 inside, it took over 24 hours to cool cabin down. There was a huge space under the door so bugs could get in and we had to leave a towel at the door the whole time. Cabin was DIRTY . Went to cook dinner on the grill and the grill was never cleaned from the last people GROSS! Had trouble with the power we couldn’t use 2 things at a time because it kept popping breakers. Had to run cords to have power ( unsafe). Bathroom no sink, shower was DIRTY , no curtain in window, toilet was gross and handle to flush kept breaking. Every time bathroom was used the cabin smelled like septic GROSS. Then 2nd night there we got woke up by management at 11:30pm asking us if we where was loud WE WHERE SLEEPING, and management smelled so bad of booze and come to find out management was drinking with people next door and he woke us up to make sure we where not going to complain to owner. They never offered us clean towels, toilet paper etc. Picnic tables were gross . Pool was DIRTY. Staff was never in the office and when called went to voicemail. We left before our checkout day could not do it anymore these cabins are out dated and awful , I can keep going on the bad things. DO NOT STAY HERE!! We will never go back!

Lighthouse Cabins Introduce

For travelers seeking a cabin or motel experience near the attractions of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Lighthouse Cabins is a property that often appears in searches for "Hotels Near Of Me." Located at 74 Saco Ave, Old Orchard Beach, ME 04064, USA, this establishment offers a more independent lodging style. You can reach them by phone at (207) 937-8664 or via mobile at +1 207-937-8664 for inquiries and bookings.

Environment and Location: Conveniently Situated

The Lighthouse Cabins benefits from a generally favorable location in Old Orchard Beach. While not directly on the beach, it is described as being "very close to the beach," with some sources noting it's a "short (5-7 minute) walk from all of the attractions and the beach." This makes it appealing for guests who want easy access to the sand and surf without being in the direct hustle and bustle of the immediate beachfront area. It's also within walking distance of popular attractions such as the Old Orchard Beach Pier, Palace Playland amusement park, and Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf. The proximity to a cafe next door is also highlighted as a positive convenience.

The property aims to offer a quieter option, being "just far enough away from the active arcade and pier area to enjoy a good night's sleep." The surrounding area typically provides a relaxed vacation atmosphere. Free private parking is available for guests, which is a valuable amenity in a busy tourist town.

Accommodations and Features: Rustic Cabins with Mixed Experiences

Lighthouse Cabins offers a variety of cabin types, including small, medium, and two-bedroom options, some with porches or poolside views. These cabins typically come with air conditioning, heating, and flat-screen TVs with cable channels. A key feature of many cabins is the inclusion of a kitchenette, which usually contains a refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, coffee/tea maker, and essential kitchenware. This allows guests the flexibility to prepare their own meals, which can be a significant benefit for budget-conscious travelers or families. Some cabins may also feature private entrances and barbecue facilities, including outdoor dining areas and picnic tables.

However, guest reviews reveal a highly varied experience regarding the condition and amenities of the cabins. While some past reviews mention "clean" and "well-kept" cabins, more recent feedback points to significant issues. Guests have reported cabins being "DIRTY" upon arrival, with concerns about dust and "cigarette smell." Bathrooms have been a particular point of contention, described as lacking a sink in some instances, having "DIRTY" showers, "no curtain in window," and a "gross" toilet with a "handle to flush kept breaking." There are also alarming reports of a "huge space under the door so bugs could get in" and a persistent "septic" smell in the cabin every time the bathroom was used.

Technical issues like power problems, where "power kept popping breakers" when trying to use "2 things at a time," requiring "unsafe" cord running, have also been noted. Mattresses and linens have also been criticized, with comments on uncomfortable beds and uncertainty about the freshness of towels. These reports suggest a significant inconsistency in the upkeep and readiness of the cabins.

Services and Hospitality: Areas for Improvement

The official descriptions of Lighthouse Cabins often highlight features like a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and complimentary WiFi throughout the property. The pool is mentioned as a recreational facility and is available for guests. Additionally, the property is pet-friendly on request, though charges may apply, making it an option for those traveling with animals. Free parking is also a convenient service.

However, customer reviews present a concerning picture regarding the level of service and management. While some older reviews mention "great staff" and "friendly" personnel, more recent accounts describe a significant lack of responsiveness. Guests have reported that "staff was never in the office and when called went to voicemail," making it difficult to get assistance. There are severe allegations of "management" being "drinking with people next door" and waking guests up late at night with alcohol on their breath, seemingly to ensure guests "where not going to complain to owner." This raises serious concerns about professionalism, guest privacy, and security. The absence of regular services like providing "clean towels, toilet paper etc." without being asked, and the reported condition of shared facilities like "gross" picnic tables and a "DIRTY" pool, further indicate issues with property management and guest care.

Check-in and check-out procedures also seem to have problems, with one guest reporting "had to wait for staff to show up from somewhere else to check in" and that "the room was not clean yet when it is check in time already." The property states check-in is from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM and check-out is from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Guests are required to show a photo ID and credit card at check-in. There is no age restriction for check-in.

Promotional Information and Booking Tips

Specific promotional offers for Lighthouse Cabins are not widely available in the provided information. The main draw is its offering of independent cabin stays with kitchenettes, often at a potentially lower price point compared to larger resorts, making it a budget accommodation option.

Given the highly mixed and often negative recent reviews, potential guests should exercise significant caution. While the location is often praised, the recurring issues with cleanliness, maintenance, security, and management professionalism are serious red flags. If considering a stay, it is strongly advised to:

  • Contact the property directly to inquire about the specific cabin assigned and its current condition.
  • Ask about recent renovations or improvements, particularly concerning the issues mentioned in reviews (e.g., A/C effectiveness, bathroom condition, electrical issues, pest control).
  • Clarify procedures for obtaining assistance outside of office hours and emergency contacts.
  • Have a backup accommodation plan in mind, especially if traveling during peak season or with family.

The strong warning from one reviewer, "DO NOT STAY HERE!! We will never go back!", underscores the severity of some guest experiences. While some official descriptions might still highlight the positive aspects, the user reviews paint a starkly different picture of the actual guest experience.

In Summary

Lighthouse Cabins, while offering a convenient location near Old Orchard Beach attractions and the flexibility of cabin accommodations with kitchenettes, appears to suffer from significant inconsistencies in its maintenance, cleanliness, and, critically, its management and service. While some older feedback suggested a decent, well-kept option, more recent guest experiences highlight severe issues that could lead to a highly unpleasant stay. For those searching "Hotels Near Of Me" and considering Lighthouse Cabins, it is imperative to weigh these warnings against the potential benefits of its location and independent cabin style. Prospective guests should proceed with extreme caution and consider alternative accommodations if possible to ensure a comfortable and secure vacation experience in Old Orchard Beach.

The location is perfect. Very close to the beach and the cafe next to the cabins is also awesome. However, if you are allergic to dust, this might not be a great idea! I spent half of my night sneezing. Also, my cabin smelled like cigarettes. It would have been nice to stay in a room with no cigarette smell. Also, I could not tell if the towels were fresh or used. Overall, it felt like proper cleaning was not done after the previous guests had left which led to an unpleasant stay for me.

I have never been to a worse establishment. Please do not stay here. The bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in years and the sheets had stains. The front door was busted in upon arrival so I could’ve even lock the door. I felt so unsafe and uncomfortable. I couldn’t even stay in the cabin for more than a minute before going to the office for a refund. I wasted 3 hours of my vacation trying to just get my money and leave. The next day I got an unauthorized $200 charge on my credit card. I immediately cancelled my credit card as it is absurd that they charged me for breaking their door that was already broken. Shady people and a gross place. Do not waste your time or money. This cheap place will make you regret saving the extra bucks.

The cabin was disgusting. Management was disgusting. We got into our cabin with a broken door, exposed power strips, poorly put in AC, dirty dirty bathroom, and stains on the bed. Management refused a refund and accused me of breaking their door even though I got there and it was already broken. They charged me $200 for it even though I have photo evidence that it was broken before and after I went into the cabin. Don’t waste your money!! It’s not worth it!! You couldn’t pay me to stay here! (I also heard the guy that works in the front office goes around knocking on people’s doors in the middle of the night drunk begging people not to tell his boss.) This place is pathetic.

Recently updated cabins within walking distance of the beach. Our cabin was freshly painted, had a new bed, pullout couch, toilet, and flooring. Staff was super friendly and happy to deliver fresh towels. Parking was a little confusing at times, but there was always a close, safe parking spot. Made our trip enjoyable and worry free.
